    It’s a shame because The High Evolutionary could have been a good galaxy-spanning villain with entire civilizations under his control who might see him as a good guy, but they killed him in his first movie too.

    EMH was able to make Kang an absolute power-house: he fought the Avengers alone without even breaking a sweat; he took hits and punches from the likes of Hulk and Thor and yet he was still standing, taking all of that like it was nothing; his armor and technology were so advanced that Iron Man, at first, found almost impossible to hijack. In all of this he was inexpressive and static, almost as if he was more bored and unimpressed than excited or worried. Now that it’s how you make an Avengers Level Threat.
    The MCU, on the other hand, had made Kang an incompetent buffoon who constantly boasts about having killed the Avengers from alternate universes, and yet he got his ass kicked by literally everyone, from the likes of someone like Ant-Man (not even the genius Hank Pym, but the idiot Scott Lang) and even from a bunch of so called "futuristic" ants. Kang was supposed to be a threat as dangerous and unstoppable as Thanos, if not even worse. But sadly the MCU had made him as threatening as Justin Hammer.

    There were two potential ways I could see them making Kang a good villain:
    Firstly, they could do the Funny Valentine approach. All Kangs are basically the same, thus defeating one Kang changes nothing because they all basically have the same goal. They're more a force of nature than a single individual.
    Secondly, most Kangs are actually pretty weak. They are mostly bubbles and buffoons who aren't really strong. Some might still be evil, but they're not that hard to beat, they just have powerful weapons or good technology or something. The one exception to this is Kang the Conqueror, who IS highly powerful, ruthless and competent.
    Unlike basically every other Kang, he is a terrifying threat who was only barely stopped in ancient times. But now gets back and every other Kang is busy losing their minds because they are screwed.

    I agree, when Thanos was introduced into the MCU for real for the first time, what was the first thing he did? He killed Loki, wiped out the people of Asgard and beat up the Hulk (the strongest character in the MCU up to that point), this instantly established him as a threat that should be taken seriously, Kang is theoretically Marvel's main villain now so theoretically he should be on the same level as Thanos, How much is his presentation as a villain and what did he do? He says he killed several avengers but we don't see any of that so we don't feel the impact, he doesn't cause any relevant damage and then he dies because of Ant-Man who is the calmest of all the superheroes in the MCU, this destroyed the entire sense of threat he might have, no matter what he does from now on I won't be able to take him seriously

      another thing that made thanos' menacing asf intro feel deserved was that he had been built up since basically the avengers. it had been a culmination of hype for this guy we'd heard of and seen here and there, but never really seen in ACTION. so by the time he came on screen, people were expecting much, and Thanos delivered.

    But the other kangs didnt exist because the one who remains was purging all timelines that produced bad kangs, that was the whole point of purging variants.
    The Kang in antman 4 was supposed to be Kang the Conquerer, the baddest of them all. It wouldve been smarter if they revealed at the end that he was just a mid-level Kang and not The Conquerer, then it wouldve made much sense that Antman could beat him

    I feel like the nerdy Kang could have worked if they focused more on his descent into madness
    We see him help someone good, he is scared, weak, frail. But then, he has to kill someone to save the one he is working with.
    And for the first time in his life, he felt power. He felt in control. And all of this leads up to him killing the one he was working with, and falling into madness.

    Here an idea kang the conquer would be the real threat, kinda bieng in the line of the most dangerous one, unlike his variants who kinda have this idea of trying to prove they are the real conqueror or the ones in charge, (which is why they attempt to act like real threats since they want to show off) while the conqueror is the one of major danger, he has an fascination with the multiverse and his own varients, bieng more like scientist/ explorer, he only conquerors because he sees it as an challenge, perhaps saying;
    "I have immortality, power and richs far greater then any, but i am bored, discovery and war are subjects that relive the silence of my soul, i will wander this wonderful infinite reality and if i reach the so called end, i will turn around and do it over again"
    Heck the whole council was made so that they could even reach the greatness of the conqueror (even do they are mostly hacks)

    Not that it matters now lol, but yeah This variation of Kang should not have been defeated. You can't some one who has claimed to have killed the MCU by himself on numerous times... get taken out by antman and some Deus Ex Super ants. its the most Disney BS treatment ever. If you don't respect the villain you have, you can't expect anyone else to, or for him to be even threatening. Having Kang escape the Quantum realm and antman crawling back defeated to the avengers to warn them about kang.. could of set him up way better. in fact go a step more and have the other big kangs cower in fear Infront of his return. Sure they banished him, but now that he's back they have to fall in line or be destroyed. Have him clean house while setting up to attack the MCU. That i think, could of been a far more interesting and dangerous Kang than the ones we got. Assuming we even get more kang, now the actor has been cut from the MCU and Disney

    Until the production teams priority stops being "providing a unique artistic perspective" and becomes prividing a faithful adaptation, the quality of the MCU will continue to slowly bleed until it dies with a wimper. Also doom would be a terrible replacement at this point in time. Annihilus is the best fit with what the MCU has available story wise.

    Recurring villains don't exist in the MCU, and that is a problem. The vast majority dont even survive, much less in a position to try again.
    Thanos got one hard fought win before being unceremoniously killed and replaced with a shittier Thanos. Dormamu is still there, but if he tries again, they're completely fucked.
    They should introduce multiple villains in a few films, let the heroes beat one of them, then let the others do some shit going forward.

    To make a good villain, a good first introduction is important I think. Loki gets a pass, because thats more about establishing who Kang is and what he could be, than anything else. I also give them a pass on him getting killed, Its pretty clear he wants that to happen, he makes a show of turning off all his powers, and season 2 even shows he had the ability to stop her at any time if he wished. Yeah, he could have been a bit more intimidating and eldritch god-like but its decent enough.
    Antman 3 does not get this pass, Loki told us what a Kang could do, Antman 3 needed to show it. I actually disagree on the point that Kang can’t work as an Antman villain, there is plenty of tension to be gained from Antman going up against someone impossibly out of his league, also, this Kang has a handicap of not having all his powers. What needed to happen for him to be a threat is either, A: Antman loses, Kang escapes, “But the Hero always has to win” you say, not true, the mcu is a long running series, like episodes of tv, the characters can lose at certain times and go on to win later, the audience will understand, Infinity war did exactly this and people consider it one of the best mcu movies.
    B: Kang loses but at a great cost, like a rogue 1 type of cost, the story hints at this in the trailers with “I don’t have to win, we just both have to lose” what better way to establish a threat than have him kill Antman in his own movie? Failing that, you have a ton of side characters you could kill, either way, you need to establish a sense of a Kang can be defeated but the cost will be great.
    Ultimately, the first Kang we see fight will establish how the audience views him going forward, if one is weak, if even Antman can beat one with relative ease, why should we care about the rest of them? Especially when the other Kangs seem to be afraid of this Kang.
    In the end, Loki had done most of the work for the writers, albiet in a somewhat rough way, all Antman 3 had to do was deliver on it, but it seems the writers were too incompetent to even manage that.

    Bit of an L take, especially since you're ignoring season 2 of Loki and you're trying to cherry pick the influence of both him and Thanos. They did the same. Stood in the backdrop, till they needed to enact said story arc. They're both passive till then. Thanos being active and Kang being reactive. Easily put, Thanos is chaos evolved and Kang is Pandora's box. They explain how strong Kang happens to be and what his role is...he doesn't need to be an "elder god", he has his purpose already filled out, as this is his purpose since day 1(explained in Season 2). He's actually written better than Thanos, whom could've easily solved his issue with the universe, by providing sufficient resources.

    So much you got wrong about Kang in the Loki series. For starters, he who remains and victor timely aren't even villain. You are making them as some sort schrondinger character where they are their own individual character but at the same time the same character at different point in their lives. Make up your mind.

    • @rafezap
      @rafezap  4 месяца назад

      I was mostly referring to He Who Remains as the vehicle that introduces Kang, not as the villain. However, the problem is that he is still a Kang yet doesn’t look particularly intimidating. Victor Timely is not a villain but he is still supposed to be Kang before he became Kang, so it’s weird to see him be so incompetent. The show couldn’t convince me that this guy becomes Kang.

    Thanos was teased for years then when he finally did appear the first thing he did was beat the shit out of Hulk and kill Loki.
    Meanwhile every time Kang has appeared in the MCU, he's been soundly beaten because Disney's activist writers wouldn't dream of having him be a threat to their girlboss heroes.
