My wife taught me most of this. She went with me to buy my replacement car for my junker. We told the dealer "we will take it" and went to finance where all this stuff started. She let him finish the spiel and state the finance rate of about 12%. She responded and said "No, the rate will be 4.5%" His jaw dropped and asked what she meant. She replied "I'm pre approved with my credit union, are you going to match, beat, or take a check?". Then she blasted off most of the fees. She was fantastic.

When they laughed at him, he made them take the license frames off his car - because he doesn't advertise for free- they stopped laughing.

The warranties they offer are actually insulting. Assuming you do want to pay for a warranty for any reason the ones they offer are ridiculous. First, the money you spend monthly will equal or exceed the cost of the anticipated repairs over the probably time you will need those repairs in. Second, the conditions of the warranty are ridiculous. You must use pre qualified repair shops and, as with most warranties, they will pore through the fine print to find a reason not to cover the repair. This is why I like to walk in to the car dealer with a realistic, but fake flamethrower. It stops the grift attempts before they start.

I had the gone through the process and was ready to close when they refused to remove their $300 "Alarm/Disabler Fee" for a device they added to all their vehicles at the time due to vehicles being stolen off their lot. The salesperson stated: "The Alarm has kept your car safe for you so you need to pay it. I refused. Then they agreed to remove the device and waive the $300 fee if I paid a $100 removal fee. It was late at night so I walked out agreeing to return the next day. I later decided to pass on this vehicle over the alarm fee.

if they are selling you a car and it has an alarm in it already its part of the price, its illegal for dealerships to give a car price then add things onto the car claiming they are already installed prior to telling you of this and the price. what you buy price is on the car installed at the time you get that price, if anything is missed, thats on them. seller of the car they cant arbitrarilly say something added installed on the car before hand and we gave you a price, then add extra after that is illegal for dealers to do, private / used car sales do this all the time though. a dealer will lose their liscence for price altering a car without full disclosure.

Here’s one you haven’t mentioned: I have friends who went into a dealership and made a deal. The salesman left and came back with the paperwork. Without saying so, he had increased the price of the car, hoping they would just sign. They caught it. He explained that his sales manager would not agree to the negotiated price…
So, from the dealership they called another dealer, left and bought the car elsewhere.
Lesson is read the paperwork carefully before you sign. Very often the charges Kevin lists are there without ever being mentioned. Caveat emptor.

He spoke to a salesman and agreed to buy the boat and when he drove to pick it up, they tacked on a thousand dollar or so delivery charge. The boat was there in their inventory but they thought they could take my dad for an extra grand. The salesman lost a sale and Bass Pro lost a customer for life.

A car does not give you freedom. A car is an illusion, a lie, a con game. You are enslaved by car payments, depreciation, tires, gas, repairs, inspections, emissions tests, insurance, registration, plates, taxes, theft, traffic jams, parking fees, breakdowns, highway deaths, speeding tickets and more. In addition, you add needless pollution to the world, waste. Most of the time you live, you are at home or at work, and meanwhile that car sits outside costing you money, doing nothing, depreciating and rotting away. You are only ever as safe as the stupidest driver on the road around you as you travel, because you cannot control their actions. Cars are moronic.
Gasoline comes from oil, and oil comes from overseas, which means the USA has to spend billions of tax dollars on a military to protect the overseas supply of oil.....that cost doesn't show at the gas pump, because of the oil lobby, so you see it in inflation, and higher prices for everything. Only sociopaths love cars.
It doesn't have to be that way. A car DOES NOT need to be a necessity to survive, that is how corrupt politicians and greedy corporations have designed life to be, and you, as a voter, can change that.
Do not buy a car. Live where you don't need one, and FIGHT to make ALL living places the same.
Cities can and should become Arcologies, where you can live, work, shop and play all in one place, everything within walking distance, all indoors and climate controlled. All supplies brought from the countryside via efficient rail. Bring things to people, don't force people to run around chasing things.
Oh, you want to live out in the country like a hillbilly? Great, do that, just don't expect us to pay for the roads that only you will need.

At minimum, approximately $81 billion per year is spent by the U.S. military protecting global oil supplies. This is approximately 16 percent of recent DoD base budgets. Spread out over the 19.8 million barrels of oil consumed daily in the U.S. in 2017, the implicit subsidy for all petroleum consumers is approximately $11.25 per barrel of crude oil, or $0.28 per gallon. A more extensive estimate by two highly-regarded economists suggests the costs could be greater than $30 per barrel, or over $0.70 per gallon.

Several years ago I was helping my fiance buy a car in SanFran. Her 3 boys were with me and wanted to be important. After test driving the car I told the salesman I would give him $23500 for the car. Good discount and he made money. Salesman came back with a contract that had those fees added to my 23500 offer (about 4500). I asked if he understood English and when he said yes, I reminded him I would give 23500 and how he divided it up was up to him ( all those fees you list). The look on her son's face and on the salesman was priceless. Said he had to charge those fees by a state law. I laughed and said ,let's go there are other dealers. Her son's were aghast until the salesman chased us to the car and said the manager wanted to talk to me. If I promised not to tell, he would meet my price. He still mssde a profit and we got a good price.

I called Toyota later that week and paid off the loan with a bank transfer. When I saw that the finance manager had put the loan for 84 months I inwardly smiled knowing what that slime ball was trying to do--maximize his kickback. He also told me that I had to make 3 months of payments before I could pay off the loan. The loan had to be in effect for 3 months before he could get his kickback. So a few months ago...shortly after my son died. I went to buy a Toyota Highlander. Traded a 2011 Pilot and took a 5K negative equity hit on the trade. May I add, I wasn't in my right state of mind. They need this & still screwed us. Ziegler Ford in Plain well MI. The Highlander was $25,000 so add on the 5K...now we're at 30k. Plus Gap, 1,000, Ceramic 2,000, Warranty 3,000...yes, they freaking got us. Almost criminal & feel stupid! Then, I had to pay $600 for Low Jack. Made it sound like it was for the finance company and the rate of car theft. Weird. I almost want to see if I can bring a case on them. But....we drove up North, I looked at the car & the the ceramic wasn't done. We went back and forth & they agreed on refunding $1750 of the cost. I wrote a review. They contacted my wife. Said a full refund if I take it down. We agreed. Then we canceled the gap & the warranty. This was also supposed to be a full refund but only refunded $2600 out of the $3,000 for the warranty. However, so far that's &5,600 back from 6K of rip offs! Plus the $600 for low jack. Imo, they still owe us a thousand dollars. That's 31K total...plus tax title and "fees" = 34k -13k down = 21K still owed. Of which we just refinanced through my credit Union at a much lower rate for 48 months. And lower payment. We Will NEVER buy from a dealer again. Maybe tell my story. His name was Bloomfield. They also did 13 hard inquiries without telling me.

Back when Edmunds had recently surfaced on the internet, I did a little research on their website prior to hitting the dealership. I even printed out NADA and KBB and Edmunds prices. Because I would not budge on the dealer price and fees, finally one of the four people they had working on me said: "has Edmunds ever bought a car?" I just smiled and said no, but they've reviewed thousands of them. Then after having four of these maggots run around like chickens with their heads cut off, after the Edmunds comment I walked out with a huge smirk on my face. I plainly told them I was no longer interested in their "deal." There is absolutely nothing better than to be an informed buyer. Love it!!

You don't actually think that air just leaks THROUGH your tires, DO YOU? It leaks through the leaky stem valve, valve stem sealing area or the bead sealing area. Otherwise it will leak through a puncture.

My 2012 Chrysler needed a heating/radiator repair that far exceeded a logical decision to spend that kind of money on a fix. I had to shop around a decent amount to find a vehicle that was even in-stock under $32k in my area. I ended up at a Family owned Buick/GMC dealer. The owner's son was the financing guy but definitely taught well to be honest with customers. Not 1 of your fake fees showed up and all the legit ones were there and explained well. He offered the extended warranty and did not "make you feel stupid" for not taking it right away.
When we wrapped up I told him I was disappointed that I had watched this video and he didn't try any of the fake fees. He chuckled and you could tell he had pride in his family business. He said he has had people in the past bring in their paperwork from other dealers and even explained to them that those are fake fees that are up charges.

It is scary! Looking at my wife's car purchase documents from 2014, in addition to the $795 Delivery fee included in the MSRP, we paid a $25 Title Fee, $295 Administration Fee, and $440 GAP Insurance. I went back about a year later and was able to get a pro-rated $350 refund on the GAP insurance. Total hidden fees: $410. Could have been a lot worse. Fortunately in my lovely state of New Hampshire, we don't have tax on cars, and we get temp plates and go to city hall ourselves to register the car (so "tax, title, and license" just becomes "title").
For my 2018 car purchase, I bought directly from the manufacturer, not through a dealership. The "Destination and Documentation Fee" was $1,000 baked into the MSRP up front. There were NO additional fees and everything was clearly labeled on the purchase agreement. 🙏💰

My brother is a salesman's nightmare. These are true stories.
Several years ago my brother (Mike) went to a dealership for a Ford SUV. When they presented the contract for him to sign, Mike starting crossing out some listed items. One was the destination fee. Joe (saleman) said he couldn't do that; it was the cost of bringing the vehicle to the dealership. Mike pointed out to him: "nobody else charges the buyer to bring a business their stock. That's the cost of you doing business." By the time they had reached a figure with all the crossed out items, Joe says "nobody would be able to sell you that exact SUV for that low a price". Mike then went to another dealership in another town. He drove out with the vehicle for even less then the one Joe said nobody could do. To add insult to injury, Mike drove to dealer #1 and stopped outside their entrance, flashing them the lower price invoice that "couldn't be done".
My brother was such a hard negotiator when purchasing another vehicle the salesman was all frustrated and said he wouldn't be making a penny on the deal. Mike was very persistent on what he would pay, pointing out these bogus fees. When he got up to leave, the salesman said he was the toughest customer he had ever worked with. And then Mike was offered a salesman job at their dealership. He said "No thanks. I have a conscience".
Sorry for the length but I thought this would interest those who have had to put up with the BS as is shown in this video.

Great video. I've been walking my kids through their car buying and one of my favorite things to do right before the purchase is made is to ask how much the dealer is going to pay each month for advertising for them. When the sales person gets a confused look on his or her face or says they don't pay customers for advertising, I tell them to take the dealer emblems off the car.

    • @KENFEDOR22
      @KENFEDOR22 3 года назад +8

I did the exact same thing! I offered them to pay me $20/month (reduce payment by that amount) to KEEP the emblems on it (including license plate frame)! 99% of drivers are advertising for their dealer for FREE right now.

We recently bought an Infinity from a used car dealer. Wish we had seen this. He charged us Gap Insurance for 895 dollars. I called my car insurance agent the next day and he was appalled that we were charged that much. Our agent got us the same insurance coverage for 875 dollars LESS! Yep, that's right, 20 dollars a year! Get your Gap Insurance (if you need it) thru your car insurance company! It'll save you hundreds of dollars!
The dealer also wanted to charge us $2995 for "extended warranty" when the manufacturer warranty (thru carfax) CLEARLY shows that we still have at least 5 years left on the original warranty. My wife ripped them a new one and demanded they take it off. This dealer has ripped off so many people to the fact that the local police department has had MANY visits to their establishment because of irate and bad practices!

Just negotiate total price plus TTR (tax tile registration) Never focus on fees and be sure to read what you sign. You should be able to research the TTR in advance.. Also, NEVER discuss financing until you are set on a price. Don't intermingle financing with your price. If at all possible, just pay cash. That way you pay NOTHING to the finance division. You probably want to avoid selling your car as a trade in. If you do so, get your fixed price first and then find out what they will pay for you used car. You can probably get a realistic price for your trade in from your auto insurance company.
Remember.... Negotiate a TOTAL price. Never let them add anything to that and the fees simply cannot be a problem If the dealer will not negotiate the total price, walk away.

They also have a DMV fee of $260 plus $184 in Title and Registration Fee( which to me is the same as the DMV Fee). I came pre approved with a 1.99% from my credit union. AFTER I negotiated the price of the car (up from what the dealership paid,) I consulted with the dealership about their financing. The credit manager said their best rate was 1.9%, as well. I pointed out to her that the manufacturer advertised 0.9% financing. She said that was only for certain models. I pointed out it was for the exact model I was buying. She was "surprised" but agreed. At the signing, she tried to sell me all kinds of crap that was 15 to 30% of the payment. No thanks. I may not have gotten the "best deal," but I certainty didn't get ripped off.

It would make no sense to take a 0.9 subvented rate if you qualified for 1.9 on your own. You get subvented rates in lieu of rebates. Giving up say 2 grand in rebates to take a 1 point lower rate would increase your payment and have you driving off owing more on the car.

First and far most; Always remember, you the consumer is the one in charge of the purchase, till you give up your control. The car dealership is at your mercy, they want you to buy from them. However; they are in business to make money. They are NOT your friend. They have their fees and they hope you just pay the fees asking no questions. It's not illegal what they're doing, remember it's a business, they're there to make money.
Because you're the one in charge of this whole deal, you're the one who decides if yes, you'll buy and play into their rules, or you walk away and go shop somewhere else. You're in charge.
I learned a while back, you (the consumer ) are the one in charge.

    • @shawfestify

Like it's not illegal when the Police tell you, just sign the paper and you can go home with your mother--she's sitting right there in the hallway crying, waiting for you. They teach that at the police academy. Then you sign the paper, do a decade in prison for a crime you didn't commit, until the Innocence Project, or EJI takes your case and gets you out. (Please see The Central Park Five, in which the first five people with brown skin the police saw were arrested. Each served at least 10 years in prison (or I think one may have turned State's witness to get less time by saying "they did it!") They got out after DNA was invented and they found the actual perpetrator was a man in prison for rape already. When confronted with dna, he confessed. He already wasn't going anywhere because he was convicted of a series of rapes, AROUND CENTRAL PARK, at the time. But once the police pick up some suspects, oftentimes their work is over. Coerce a confession, and it's off to Dunkin'. Oh, and Trump paid like $85k to run adds in all NYC papers, full page, saying "Bring Back the Death Penalty" for Central Park Five. When asked about it during his orange presidency, Trump means never having to say you're sorry said, "I stand by my actions." He don't give a fuck if some black people are innocent when they go to prison. What does politics have to do with the price of a car? Some people are good con men. Then they are trained to become better con men, and they make a lot of money selling shit to you. ruclips.net/video/ZCT3jm1A-5U/видео.html

My fellow salespeople were guys whose high school football glory days were long behind them and got a kick out of seeing how much they could get over on people, including junior salespeople. After about a month, I simply used the position to build my network and got a better job. Walked into the manager's office and quit without notice.

only a moron would buy a car without a warranty, no not all warranties are equal but being that cars are now basically mostly computers and the common man cant work on them, ive seen people come in and have to stroke a check for several thousands of dollars for a repair bill when they could have spent 35 dollars a month for a warranty. the biggest scam is when morons like yourself will spend $100 dollars a month on car insurance which you most likely will never use but when it comes to 35 dollars a month to keep you from having a huge bill you call it a scam...PATHETIC.

@@handytbutler7380 Please... You can always tell con-artists... their go-to play is to try to make you feel stupid for even questioning their offer. Now, you know damn well there are bonafide reasons insurance is a legal requirement, and a warranty is a choice. 1. If liability insurance was not a law, most people would also forego it quicker than they would your warranty. And, 2. Because an accident could cost life, limb, and property damage for all involved... A broken engine or tranny?... NOT SO MUCH!! Nah... For decades I've taught mine that the best thing to do is to spend that $35 one time, to get a reputably branded, low-mileage, clean-titled, and well-kept used car that you like checked our thoroughly by a reputable mechanic for soundness before you buy. Then start a money market maintenance fund for $50 a month and increase it as you can afford to. And usually, by the time there is a serious problem you have money saved up to cover most if not all the repairs. I know this works because I've used it for YEARS, and my granddaughter just used it about 5 months ago on an electrical problem about 14 months after her bumper to bumper factory warranty lapsed... And she actually wound up with a chunk left-over. And so now she is adding to the leftovers, which will likely double by the time her 5-year power train warranty lapses. Money that didn't go to the flim-flam man in finance, at $35 per month. But nice reverse-psyche bullshit there, Bucko Butler!

Third party car warranties are a rip off. Take the 2k to 4K warranties, put it in the bank or other investment and let it ride. You have a better chance of having that money, and then some, at the end of whatever the warranty term offered. That money is yours. Not the money you gave the finance guy.
