With Titles like 11 Fake Fees, to Don't Say I'm Paying Cash at Car dealerships, and Car Shortage Crisis, and Car Dealer Says Bring the Car Back!... The Homework Guy Team publishes videos to help Car Buyers. Then we added Cash Buyer Negotiations, and Held Hostage at a Car Dealership, No Haggle One Price Car Dealerships, How Much do Used Car Dealers Pay for Cars?, and Costco Auto Program. A CAR DEALER WANTS TO:
    1. SELL every car for the Highest Possible Price.
    2. CONVINCE Car Buyers to use Dealer affiliated Lenders / Banks.
    3. LOAD every Car Deal full of Fees and Finance Products.
    4. OFFER Lowball numbers on every Trade Vehicle.
THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
    1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
    2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
    3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
    4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.
For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED their lowly reputation by being the masters of predatory selling. Dealers stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and quite often do. We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get through the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency. Join our mission!
The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. Last Friday I bought a new Acura MDX. The initial proposal was loaded with fake fees and add ons. I told them about the FTC regulations for fake fees and then walked out. I was in my vehicle ready to leave when the GM came out and asked me what it would take. When I told him $6,000 off MSRP he said, Come on in. When we sat down again there was nothing on the deal except for the car price at 6000 off MSRP and a processing fee which covered state fees. That was it. And in the finance office we were offered a menu of items and politely declined them all, and they did not argue or pressure us to buy anything. I felt very much in control. We did accept their financing offer at 4.9% from American Honda Finance. That was much lower than my credit union. Thanks for the wonderful intel on car buying. You guys rock.

Well exactly right. It’s a massively unequal situation wherein the dealer has confidence and familiarity with the lingo and also the dealers are on their territory with all their friends and associates around them. Unless a member of the public has a confidence and IQ that is well above average, then the dealers are positioned to prevail. I don’t doubt the points that this channel is making. I do doubt, however, the capacity for most people to apply this knowledge - including - and I say this with some embarrassment - myself…

I had a case that was strange. The local Chevy dealer had a van I was interested in. They said I had to buy their power train warranty. They'd take care of the engine and transmission if anything happened. It was $3000 for this "insurance" or "warranty." I said - so if I'm in South Carolina or Florida and something happens I can take it to a local Chevy dealer and have it fixed? Nope, I had to bring it back to that dealer. Can you imagine how much it would cost to tow a Chevy 3500 extended van about 700 miles? That's a big girl.
They wouldn't sell me the truck without it so I bought the same truck at another dealer for the same price I offered them. The truck I bought also had fewer miles, same year, it was the same truck. 3500 passenger van.
My daughter ended up buying a vehicle from them and they paid that 3 grand. Wonder if they can do something about it. 3 grand is 3 grand after all.
I still own the truck. It's a workhorse.

But...unless a buyer is buying often they are at a massive disadvantage EVEN after "doing the homework". its just not that simple for the common buyer to recognize and avoid the crafty traps. The sharks will lead you, misdirect you, confuse you, get your mind off of your notes and what you need to do/say etc. Unless a buyer is super savvy and tough and very well versed and practiced you are going to get burned or semi burned. Its insane how a buyer literlly has to suffer through a boot camp like crash course just to buy a damn car. its infuriating.

I just tried to buy a used vehicle at a Mazda dealership in the Phoenix area. It was a one price dealer and the price of the vehicle was good. However, when it came time to get a price, they had added lifetime window tint $799 (the vehicle was only 2 years old and I'm positive it already had window tint from new) $799 for Lojack, $699 for Key Fetch and $698 document processing fee. I told the salesman that I didn't want any of the add ons and that $699 for a doc fee was excessive. He went to his manager twice and the best they would do is lower the price by $1600. I told them that didn't remove all of the add ons and I walked out the door. So I went to another dealer and bought the same vehicle i was looking at used and instead bought a new vehicle (same model) and they didn't add on anything. I was offered some extra cost options but at no time was I pressured to buy anything. It was a totally different experience working with an honest dealership.

Luckily when I bought my new Nissan truck a couple of weeks ago it was a great experience, it was priced $2k below MSRP (on their website and they honored it when I went there), the only fee was a reasonable doc prep fee (besides the regular tax and title) and they didn't have any dealer add on items like some way over priced window etching b.s. The biggest with the most vehicle inventory...you won't pay more than MSRP except for one fee of $1145 which covers Wheel locks, cargo mat, (and 2 other things that I honestly don't remember)" I said ok, that's to be decided on later, I'm simply calling to see if you have this particular vehicle on the lot to test drive. He said they didn't, but one would be at their dealership in a couple days and he'd call me. Then I got to thinking, shouldn't those 4 "extra" items already be included in the MSRP price since they're coming from the manufacturer already loaded on/in the vehicle?🤔

Dealerships purchase their cars in summer for the following calendar year. When they order, they will get a variety at different trim levels and even order cars they may not know they can sell but will use as barging chips for trading with other dealers. Always ask to look at the invoice if they have a bunch of add ons. Most of the items are not installed by manufacturer. Wheel locks, mats, and first aid kits can all be put in car easily after it arrives. They should be on the invoice. The manufacturers add a bazillion options to each purchase if you've ever played around with building a "custom" auto. That price sounds about like what the manufacturer would charge, but it sounds like the dealership is making it a mandatory add-on maybe from their own stock for a better profit %?

Some items are set from the manufacturer the dealer will request when ordering their allotments like panoramic moon roofs, engine type, wheels etc.. OTHERS are added by the dealer to pad the price like nitrogen, mats, wheel locks…dealer-add ons are guaranteed money makers for dealerships IF you accept them.

Kevin and Elizabeth I want to say thank you so much for all the training you gave me and I taught my wife and son how to deal with new car dealers! Now I will make this very short as I learned of a California rule! Sorry Law that on Toyota Prius’s there is an etch fee on the catalytic converter! Because I questioned it! Of course there was shove back until I googled it and found it to be true. So I sat humbled for a moment then said ok ….. if you throw in all weather floor mats ( for free) you have a deal. The person across the table immediately wrote that in and we had a car! Just wanted to let you know! Thanks for all wonderful videos! Ps we walked away from 4 dealers for pushy closers!

Kevin and lisa - Imo shoppers should be avoiding these dealerships entirely not slapping a printed law form on the dealer as a way to haggle the bs off, it should start at the shopping online stage and shoppers should be taught how to spot them and adjust their shopping ways to avoid them -- Example a dealership group in the midwest subtracts around 6k of dealer made up discounts/rebates to use their banks and trade from their list/cash price to arrive at a false internet price most would assume is a cash price, i found them online and contacted them within a few mins i had my answer - i dont qualify and my cash price is 6k higher than the internet price that i found on a popular ad site-- i have a method to get the true price from these shaddy dealers cause i know the scam exists, but you 2 may have several ways to mention in a show to help others out -- thanks for all that you do....

It's seems like a car is the only product you buy where you need to go through the hassle of a dealer middle man (unless you're buying through direct sales like Tesla). The state franchise laws allowing dealers to continue ripping off people need to be revised.

    • @dominionian7193
      @dominionian7193 Год назад +1

@@CandycaneBeyond I agree with you, but typically that's in countries where consumers have no option to OEM/manufacturer support, and merchants rely mostly on independent import of products.
My point is that now, there's no reason why a direct sales model should be illegal. That would help alleviate the issue of dealers standing in the way. When I buy expensive items, I always buy directly from the manufacturer/OEM if I can. When I travel, I always book directly with the airline/hotel/etc (rather than dealing with some travel agent). It's easier when you can skip the middle man. Anytime a 3rd party gets in the way, it's usually not in the favor of the consumer.

I was at my dealer here in Ottawa Ontario Canada a few weeks ago for an oil change and was walking around the show room where they had a Corvette for $85,000.00 and the window MRSP info was full of DEALER INSTALLED stuff, locking lug nuts, Red painted brake callipers, rear spoiler, paint pin stripes with all the DEALER INSTALLED listed brought the price to $97,000.00 Kevin and Elizabeth would say NO I don't want that stuff remove it or drop the price of the vehicle of the items installed or I walk. It's a sellers market, so you're already walking in destined to be screwed. They don't even need to add fees, they tack on 10k to the MRSP and since there's no stock anywhere you have to take it.
