It could be nitrogen but still thats an insane fee. Plus when you get your tires changed they usually already have that added into the tire change cost.
I never look at the fees. I tell the dealer what I will pay out the door for the vehicle and inform them it is their job to make their price sheet come to that price. How they want to code it I do not care as long as the bottom number (with taxes and licensing) matches what I told them I would pay. If they can't do that I walk.
I had a couple of dealerships try their bullshit add-ons with me. It didn't work for them. My favorite was their "spartan recovery system," which was basically a knockoff of LoJack. I told them to take it off as it was redundant. If course the salesman was trying hard to push it, even the sales manager pushed it. I brought them to the vehicle, we sat inside, and i had them turn it on. Then, I pressed the OnStar button and brought it up on the infotainment system. They just looked at me, and i said, "Ya'll realize you're a GM/Chevy dealership, right? And OnStar is standard in all of their vehicles".... Yeah, I walked after I made them look stupid. My girlfriend at the time started laughing at them, and I drove away. They thought that because I drove 2.5 hours to see the truck, I would give into their bullshit. WRONG!
We need to change how cars are sold so that consumers can buy vehicles from he manufacturers. Tesla does this so why cant the others? Dealerships are unnecessary middle men who only add to the cost of the vehicle and harm the consumer with bad sales practices
I’ve audited large car dealerships and you wouldn’t buy another vehicle from a dealership if you saw the amount of money most of the employees make, which the consumer is no doubt paying for. For example, the F&I people can easily make $250k a year. Service Techs? $100k!
One of the many reasons Tesla is getting my business, Ordered CT 4 years ago and bought a M3P 3 years ago once the CT gets here aside from helping my daughter with her jeep ill never grace another stealerships lot with my presence. Unless its to stop in to laugh at them.

Our local dealerships (Southern Nevada)charge for dealer add ons like door edge guard, door handle anti scratch appliqué , window tint, for $1200 to $1800. It seems all the dealerships are charging for this and would rather not sell you the car than remove that charge. I spoke with another dealer who had a vehicle en route that hasn’t even reached the dealer, and said it was still a mandatory add on once it arrived. Very frustrating. I’m going to try out of state and see what happens, Phoenix is only a 3.5 hour drive if I can make a deal on-line
Speak to someone else, say no to mandatory bs. If you do buy a car else where, I’d let them know that their mandatory add ons were the reason you bought else where.
We bought a Scion XB in the early years and one of the dealers put a bunch of stupid decals on the doors and charged like $400 for it. We said we didn’t want any stickers on them and they refused to remove it or delete the cost. We left and went to another dealer who didn’t add anything. Too bad for them.
The only thing that matters is the OTD price. Shop all local dealers against their written OTD price and forget about the itemization. You can negotiate to reduce the bottom line but easier just to forget all the names of the buckets and worry about final cost.
The only PIPA I have been able to find relates to the Personal Information Protection Act. Are they charging a fee to comply with a government mandate?
The most ridiculous charge ive had was a “storage” fee from when I had a custom stereo system put in and they had my truck for 2 days after telling me it would be one day. Apparently they charge customers for parking your vehicle INSIDE the shop overnight. After arguing with the owner and threatening to print a huge picture of the receipt to post on truck for a local truck show he removed the fee. The shop only lasted 1 year in business after the owner was arrested for stealing and swapping parts of customers cars.
Dealershops try to get away with charging fees for everything. Theytry to add on all sorts of stuff. Negotiate the price then tell them to knock off all the bs junk.
At least in AZ, Document fees charged to one person must be charged to every person. You will never get them to remove that one. That being said, I always make them refund it in the adjusted price. I do it as the very last thing before I sign. Yes, I spring that on them. There are a couple of dealers I've dealt with more than once. They know better now. I get fantastic pricing from the start. It saves time. BTW, BMW actually states on most of their pages that dealer prep and freight fees are baked in and you shouldn't pay extra. If you do, that's on you for not doing research.
Exactly right. When I bought my last vehicle, they tried to add in almost $900 in mandatory fees that they claimed were non-negotiable. I just said, "OK. That is not a problem. You just need to deduct $900 from the price we just negotiated before adding on those fees or I don't want the car." They dropped the price as requested.
Yeah actually I agree with most of that from a 30-year car sales and finance manager. Our doc fee was usually no more than $35, and that was because we had to pay people to go physically to the DMV and handle a lot of stuff you can only do so much stuff online, and if there is any discrepancy the DMV notices again we have to go back to the DMV to fix it for you. So unless you'd rather go to the DMV two times then don't pay the doc fee. Now the places that are charging over 100.00 is ridiculous. But there is only so much profit in a vehicle and everything else we have to do comes off that. If you don't want to go out and find your own financing and I've got to do all your work for you and then I'm going to charge. But remember on some of these fees if you charge them to one person which you can do you have to charge them to every single person, and they can't be deleted from any contact.

Thank you. Question, how do the dealerships make profits? I’m seriously asking because I’ve had one say “if we knock off these fees, how are we supposed to make money, we are a business, we need to make some money off the sale”
It is a heck of a lot more than simply putting the handlebars on. go look at the crate full of parts that arrives at the dealership an you'll think that the dealer prep fee is too low. On top of that assembly and inspection, you are also supposed to have the bike, bars, controls, ride height etc. adjusted to fit the new owner.
Don’t know how to do but i bought a 2011 Chevy traverse in 2017. In 2018 the transmission went out twice. Could drive it for almost a year while it was being “fixed.” Finally rebuilt it instead of getting a new one as promised.
alot of the times now adays carsales men get bad rates for sale. they get a very small percentage of gross per vehicle and lets say you buy a car for 55,000 but the dealer ship got it for 53,000 that 2000 dollars that is left about 10 percent of that goes to the salesmen. now lets say that you are able to talk the deal down to 53,000 because that car has been on the lot longer than the dealership would have liked that car salesman basically makes no money on the sale.

So, isn't the problem that most people pay it?, so if you try to get them to take those fees off can't they just say no and let you walk away because the next person that comes in the dealership will probably pay it?

How about the destination fee?I believe it is just the same as freight.. 😂😂 I was told that i need to pay for the transfer of the car from manufacturer to the dealership. Do i really have to pay for that?
Freight is fake? Even when I built out my car on the Subaru website it was listed as a charge? They had the build complete plus $1200 for delivery right one the website?
Freight as a dealer addon is fake. That $1200 delivery fee is included in the MSRP that’s on the Monroney Label. On the quote he is showing the dealer is adding a “freight fee “ in addition to the MSRP that already has that transportation cost built in.
For my Crosstrek the transportation fee was not in the MSRP but was added to it on a separate line to come up with the total .when you guys talk about the MSRP I think you are talking about this number which is not labeled as the MSRP on the sticker . TSRP ?
If everyone just said no than the fees would go away. Unfortunately people are sheep. We sell Kias with way more markup than I see here and we sell almost 300 a month at my dealership. 5-10 grand mark up on average and sheelpe buy them up left and right. I always insist on the dock fee removed. Whether it’s for a new automobile or snowmobile, I refuse to pay it, or it’s a deal breaker !!!!! They will cry, lie and squeal like a sow, but it’s always a dealer profit item dressed up as a “State Requirement” …..
Lol 😂 Go pound sand !!!
Yes those big car dealership they screw you in when you inside when you get out you're good screw out stard with the high interest and he is right all the money they charge you for all the time the paper they used and don't used the toilet they have to charge you for that too
This is nice advice, but when I refused to pay the Ottawa Hyundai Value Package - $699 and the Paint And Fabric/Leather Treatment & Protection $1995 they refused to sell me the car. So how much further ahead am I?
Plenty
Thanks
Where is the much needed oversight into these scam dealerships! They’re crooks!
what do you tell the dealer to negotiate the
freight fee?
Great job team!
So, isn't the problem that most people pay it?, so if you try to get them to take those fees off can't they just say no and let you walk away because the next person that comes in the dealership will probably pay it?
Doc fees and dealer fees are such a rip off.
what we need is car vending machine.....it bypass human seller. Anytime there is human seller...there always gonna cost extra money that customers never see the acutal bill when all extra costs is paid by loan company when customer is only responsible the payment plan beginning after 2 months later. All the extra fees and costs ...thats lender responsibility
I dare you to go to a Harley Dealer!
How about for used cars? Is freight fee a must?
Hate to break it to you Junior, powersport dealers don’t operate like car dealers. The freight isn’t included in the MSRP of the product, and PDI set up fee isn’t either.
$2,064.00 discount followed by $2,097.00 for "freight" what a hecking heck of a deal 😂 id also like to know what all goes into a dealer prep for $1,688.00?? It's a new car nothing should be prepped other than maybe a car wash and half ass wax attempt by some kid getting paid $12 an hour.
Can I apply this to the motorcycle dealership as well?
Is the Dealer Prep Fee then applicable to used cars?
For my Crosstrek the transportation fee was not in the MSRP but was added to it on a separate line to come up with the total .when you guys talk about the MSRP I think you are talking about this number which is not labeled as the MSRP on the sticker . TSRP ?
Ya even on the Subaru website they list delivery separate. I’m confused here
Can they charge dealer prep on a used car?
There is a lot of this going on
Doc fees are fees charged to them when they send the documentation to the state i thought
There are dealers charging dealer prep fees on used cars which is asinine BS.

What about transportation fee? Is that the same as freight fee?
Does mSrp in Canada also include freight charges? I am asking about province Alberta
If everyone just said no than the fees would go away. Unfortunately people are sheep. We sell Kias with way more markup than I see here and we sell almost 300 a month at my dealership. 5-10 grand mark up on average and sheelpe buy them up left and right. Don't blame the dealership for trying when everyone is too dumb to just say no. People got real dumb the last few years and dealers are taking full advantage of your stupidity
P.I.PA FEE? I looked and couldn't find what that means.
Can you please do one for Canadian junk fees? I feel so toothless when negotiating here
Bring a burly, stern man with you, or buy Tesla.
No one charges more for prep fees than tax. Your not very informed if you think his made sheet is real.
What about freight in used car? Its same scam?
Everything is bogus besides actual car and title fee If $70,000 car sold six times and sales tax are on average 6% imagine how much money government gets just from the sale of same car six times ridiculous
Can u get those fees removed from used vehicles u only mentioned new
