Like the tutorial, I'd never heard of teddy bear joints until today. Being someone who does a lot of work with hardware, I would make a few suggestions. 1. Nylock nuts aren't that much more expensive, and that CA glue you use is actually a ridiculously tiny squeeze tube inside the dispenser (break one apart the next time you run out, you'll see). I'd be willing to bet simply buying nylock nuts would save money over that glue (I do love the Super Glue brand, but I hate that particular one). I always get the pro liquid variant from them, though I normally work with plastic/metal models. If you need it to dry quickly, you can spray the mating surface of the fabric with a tiny amount of CA glue accelerant (basically water and baking soda, which is a chemical base so worth testing on scrap fabric first) for a nearly instant bond. 2. The style of hardware you want is called machine screws/nuts. The particulars don't matter, but I'd recommend getting fine thread (which you do have in the video). You want the closest fit to the center hole of the disks, which you can get SAE or metric. If in doubt, measure across the hole and error a tiny bit smaller. 3. If you do want to glue the nut in place, I would use a thread lock glue like Loctite. Alternatively, nail polish actually works great for this. Apply some glue to the bolt threads and then tighten the nut in place. Hope you find this useful!
You are amazing! Your tutorials are the best Ive seen and your pay-it-forward attitude and free patterns are such a wonderful thing. Thank you on behalf of every crafter around the world.👋👋
Lisa, this is such a game changer! Not using buttons on the outside to attach the arms is a cleaner look and so much easier! Thank you a million times!!
You are amazing. The animals you make are the best I’ve ever seen. And such great tutorials. First time for me, but I definitely will be watching more. Thanks for sharing.
Omg wish I knew this a few years ago. There was no RUclips when I started making bears lol! Who knew you could do so much with felt. You are truly inspirational. Thank you x
Thank you so much for your videos and passion. I bought some boards and made my own joints and gave my hubby and me some time to do something I like for a change..How do you know how to price your bears
Lisa i just found your channel yesterday, and im so glad i did, iv made teddys in the past, but nothing like the quality of yours, i was just searching for supplies and couldnt find joints like yours now i know why! 😊 thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us.
Thank you so very much for sharing this. It makes a world of difference in putting my bears together. It's so much easier to finish the arms and legs before adding them to the body.
It s amazing, before I am a seamstress, now I m starting to made lot toys with the fabrics to my grand children , I enjoyed to watch all Yr show to made,, thank you so much ,
Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. I have been sewing for over 65 years. I have made wedding gowns, car head liners, car seat covers, men's suits, all my kids clothes, my clothes, handbags and so on but I am just now starting to make dolls and was totally confused on how to do joints. This is so cool. Again, thank you for sharing. Your videos are wonderful.
Hello. I just found you. You’re remarkable, you are so detailed, and so generous. Good common sense, logical, thorough and a great speaker. Wow! I suscribed. Thank you very much for your secrets. They’ll be safe with us.
Lisa, I am so grateful that I found your channel! I was absolutely crushed when the locknut joint of my first art bear came off after a year and his entire little head came off. Now I will be able to fix him without fear of it happening again. You are wonderful thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us newbies
I am super excited and can't wait to get started making these. I'm hoping to try with jointing my cloth dolls instead of jointing with buttons. Thanks for sharing this tip🤗❣
You are kind and a great teacher. Many thanks for your amazing tutorial. I make patio inspirational bears. I have ran out of memory bears and was searching for teddy patterns similar to my shape bear and fell asleep on the lounge. When I woke up your video was playing. I felt blessed. ❤ Xxx
WOW!! great tips and I loved your Bunny bust she's adorable, I so enjoy your tutorials, I am amazed at what can be done with felt. Your skills and passion is trully inspiring. 💕🥰
Thankyou soooo much for this. I am on a carers pension for my disabled daughter and money is ALWAYS an issue. Everyone should be able to afford to do arts and crafts, its done my mental health wonders.
Hello my friend! I love to hear you are feeling more yourself, health issues can be tiresome for sure. I look after my health very seriously, and my mental health is largely supported by creating. Sending you warm healing hugs!🥰
Thank you so much Lisa, I had ordered joints from eBay to make the bear so I will definitely be making my own joints now. Your work is adorable really appreciate your great tutorials
Hi please can you let me know where you bought your disc with the central hole. I have tried eBay uk and looked on eBay au. Can you point me in the right direction please
Very informative. Your videos are very precise and clear to follow. You could create much larger patterns where we join sheets together for larger body sections, etc. Just create indication/registration marks to tape multiple printed patterns sheets from A4
This is great, I'm defiantly going to use this on the crochet dolls I'm making. Also I think if you use plastic disks instead of wood they might be machine washable.
wow! joints have always confused me. I didnt get how they worked, mostly because i couldnt find some clear info and visual. Thank you so much i totally get it now.
Thank you. Lisa for all of your information your work is incredible, and you are so kind sharing your patterns with us. I am looking forward to having a go at some of them soon xxx
Hi Lisa! I am sooo glad I found your channel today. I’ve wanted to make bears for a while (I love making soft toys), and I also started crocheting a few years ago,and discovered the world of amigurumi. I’m in the process of making my first crocheted jointed bear and the instructions for the disks and cotter pins were so confusing. I am definitely using this method! Thank you, and can’t wait to try some of your patterns.
Hi Juliette! I’m glad you found me, you sound very creative!😊 I adore Amigurumi! I never have time to learn😂 maybe one day, I hope you will enjoy creating with me🥰🤗
trying this out for the first time, on my first jointed animal! I messed up a few bolts getting epoxy on the threads. Fingers crossed all will be well tomorrow. I'm excited, though!
Absolutely amazing ive been using plastic joints but i want start making these but im looking online for bolts but its saying different widths of bolts . Which will i need please?
Hi Abigail, Thank you, my Goat is a One Of A kind Collectable piece, he features extensive resin sculpting and needle felting techniques which are a little too challenging for most makers, however I do plan to create a simpler version for you all!🥰🤗
One think I did pick up on was that your goat had jointed knees, which is something I'd like to incorporate in a bear, so he/she could sit on a shelf where the legs could bend at the back of the knees, so the legs are dangling off the shelf. Have I misunderstood how your goat's knees are jointed, as for the life of me I cannot fathom how this could be accomplished! I so admire your generosity and exquisite designs.
Big thank you again, learnt some great tips from this video and made a felt bear off the back of it. I used a pattern that I already had that is very similar to yours just a bit bigger. I then enlarged your pattern for the teddy bear coat and made a coat for my bear. I used your hand stitching first tip! Amazing so much easier and then your eyes and ears tips, I wasn't using pins and was having to keep resewing the ears on. I also airbrushed my bear into a badger, how can I send you a photo of the end result? Thank you for sharing you and your skills and patterns x
Thank you so much, Lisa, I have been watching your videos on RUclips and I am really enjoying them. I want to make a teddy bear, it will be my first time. Even though you are very clear about the standard roofing bolts, I am still unsure where and what to buy online. I live in Australia. Please help? I would rather order online.
Wonderfully explained! Thank you. I can't find these 40 mm wonden disc on net at all. All out of stock. But I have found same but in hardboard. Will that be ok? Thank you
Hi Lisa when you said you would show us how to make the joints , I thought you ment how to cut them out of ply board? and not buy them. Please would it be possible for you to make a video on how the craft them from plywood. Thanks
Hi Lisa! Thank you for the video! It's wonderful! I am going to try it on the bear I am making now. May I ask how you go about putting the ears on with the discs? Before stuffing I'm guessing? I would love to be able to put on my bear's ears that way. Thank you for all you do!
Hey Cheryl, I’m glad you are experimenting with jointing, In my own work I sometimes joint the animals ears however they need to be the right shape, my Goats ears are very complex and have sculpting resins inside. Bears ears are still best sewn on, but trust me, if I ever work out a way to joint them I’ll share it with you all!😜🥰
Hi Lisa,l am a big fan of your work. I would like to ask you how l can make my own cotter joint, because it is o expensive. Please give me a tip, I really appreciate it very much. You have a great day.
Hi LOVE your work! Great info that I found to be perfect. I wanted to use a nylon type disk with nylon bolts n nuts for soft toys that be repeatedly wash so that would be better? Again thanks for your tutorials. Keep them coming. God bless
Hi Michelle, thank you! Yes you can use acrylic joints or discs, however the neck joint on most soft toys needs to have a longer bolt which you fasten inside the body.🥰
Hi Ann, Plastic joints are sometimes a suitable alternative, so long as they are still the correct sizes. In general though neck joints need to be hardware. Have a look at my other Jointing video for other alternatives 🥰
Do the discs even come unglued from the fabric with use? Is there torque/wear on the fabric over the years? Does the nut lock the distance to disc in place forever? (keeps tight with impaction/doesn't loosen?) Could I use a locking nut instead of glue?
Love that I can make these myself and save some money. Thank you very much. Also, I'm in love with the goat. Do you by chance offer a pattern for him? I would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that.
I love your videos, you are so talented! I am in the UK and would like to make your lovely unicorn, I am struggling to find anything other than sets or large amounts of one size discs all come with split pins. Nearest size I can get to 50mm is 51mm would that be ok? Thank you xx
wow, wow, wow...grabbing more coffee to continue watching
😂😂 Glad you’re enjoying it!
Wonderful idea. Can't wait to put it to use

Wonderfully explained! Thank you. I can't find these 40 mm wonden disc on net at all. All out of stock. But I have found same but in hardboard. Will that be ok? Thank you
Hi Sylviane, yes hardboard will work beautifully depending on the thickness, perhaps glue 2 together for strength 🥰
thank you so much for sharing ...would you considered horses ?
Thankyou very much, from another Aussie
Gidday Lee! Great to have you on board! You are very welcome 😊🥰

Hello Lisa,
Thank you for a great video as always. Would plastic joints be just as good as the wooden ones?
Thank you.
Regards,
Ann.
Hi Ann, Plastic joints are sometimes a suitable alternative, so long as they are still the correct sizes. In general though neck joints need to be hardware. Have a look at my other Jointing video for other alternatives 🥰
Thank you, this was very informative.🥰
You are so welcome!🥰
Graziee bellissima idea infatti cucire le braccia con il bottone esterno non era molto estetico proverò subito il tuo consiglio
You are so very welcome 🥰
Do the discs even come unglued from the fabric with use? Is there torque/wear on the fabric over the years? Does the nut lock the distance to disc in place forever? (keeps tight with impaction/doesn't loosen?) Could I use a locking nut instead of glue?
Love that I can make these myself and save some money. Thank you very much. Also, I'm in love with the goat. Do you by chance offer a pattern for him? I would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that.
Hi Sharon, I will be presenting a smaller Goat pattern for you all soon!🥰🤗
Thank you sooooo much for this great tip!
My pleasure!🥰
Great way to do the joints ! Thank you so much for your great video ! I am learning so much !
You are so welcome!
Would you recommend unpicking the sewing to repair/replace old cotter pin joints?
You would need to unpick the original openings and unstuff to gain that access, but it can be done🥰
Wonder if you can do this with plastic joints... so you don't have to worry about rust.
I love your videos, you are so talented! I am in the UK and would like to make your lovely unicorn, I am struggling to find anything other than sets or large amounts of one size discs all come with split pins. Nearest size I can get to 50mm is 51mm would that be ok? Thank you xx
Hi Maisie, Yes, 51cm will be fine! I hope you have fun!😊🥰
