Editor's Note: My edits were all made to keep the video on one, central topic by editing together relevant commentary from many parts of Hasan's streams to create a storyline that is still followable by the viewer. I also edited in commentary of my own in places, in addition to relevant external information that improves the viewing experience. A lot of edits were made for comedy purposes, or to enhance the comedic timing of certain beats, but never to misrepresent Hasan's point of view.

My 2nd grade class held a mock election for the 2003 recall, and most of the kids voted for Arnold just because they knew him from the Terminator movies. Really depressing that an entire state voted in an election with the same level of thought as elementary school kids.
California the land of delusional.
I mean, Trump was voted in because dumbass people watched The Apprentice. It's not that different
He tried to implement high speed rail tho which I doubt the dem running against him would tbh
I would say the worst part is he probably wasnt worse than the actual politicians
@@lancehattemer6737 That’s the real dystopian part of this.
The only thing that could be worse than electing an actor for the sake of popularity contests is having an average performance so abysmal the actor eclipses it and he wasn’t even phenomenal compared to past high points.
this british guy's knowledge on such deeply American issues is unsettling. they're getting smarter
if brits are doing anything other than writing music or designing tabletop war games there is a serious problem afoot
The brits are starting to escape their prison island.

The Swedish part of his brain is working overtime to overcome the Oi Bruv part of his brain.
We shipped the stupid ones off to form the US and Australia!
god LA looks so heartbreaking as an environmentalist, and i thought it was terrible where i live :,( LA chatters please don't lose hope in your beautiful city, please help protect the LA river, advocate for more walkable infrastructure and public transportation. care for your unhoused neighbors
Fake drainage rivers will never recover since it’s not a natural ecosystem. That river being man-made was the main mistake.
“protect the la river” it’s too late idk what you’re on about
@@memelord4639 there was no ecosystem in the first place since it’s an unnatural river you can make it look pretty again but it will struggle to hold an ecosystem
If only the Big Oil didn't prevent us from doing so.
That shit dry as a bone 3/4ths of the year and a liquid carcinogen the rest lmao.
I think a common misconception that occurs is the idea that the rest of California is like LA, it’s not. However LA’s problems are so big as there are so many people, living in a desert by the way, that it bleeds into the rest of the state. Now, do I think that these problems are insurmountable? No. But there certainly needs to be a change in mentality amongst the leadership and voting public there for things to improve.
I don't think people know what a nightmare it is to walk in the US. My apartment is by the freeway and there is no sidewalk to walk on, the sidewalk just ends. So I can risk my life walking in traffic, no pedestrian or bike lane, just raw doging the edge of a freeway. Or I can take the bus a stop or two down. And at that point it isn't just oh I don't want to walk anywhere. I just don't want to die in traffic.
I like to visit park that’s literally a few blocks away from me, except for the cars blasting through the 4 way intersection at 60 mph causing ear pain levels of noise. Also live nearby a library which happens to be right across from a damn highway which makes it constantly noisy.
@@ac1455 There's a 4 way intersection by my apartment, on one side there is no light up walk sign. So you have to walk down to the other end to know when to cross safely. The road infrastructure of the US really makes no damn sense.
As a Californian, I’ve always corrected people who say you bought a mansion. 3 mil will get a nice house at best in an populated neighborhood
It's so funny that Hasan doesn'te expect us foreigners to know this much about LA, as if the US hasn't been showing off LA to everyone in the world for over a century at this point. Those of us who live in countries where you can't go outside half the year especially, we know the Courthouse Square film set at Universal studios better than our own neighborhoods.
I live in LA county. I lived in nyc for four years before then. One thing I significantly miss is the walkability and public transit. You have to drive everywhere in LA. I hate it. Especially since I’m a terrible driver.
LA dropped the ball with our public transportation. We have a car culture here, and too many suburbs and commuters, so any remedy will be long and met with much resistance.
Cafe walk area and trains would change california.
@@temporarilyimmortal795 the thing thats annoying is LA used to have great public transport. they had the largest streetcar network in the WORLD in the 1920s and the lines were bought up by tire and gas companies and discontinued.
@shealarsen4335 I noticed new affordable housing developments that don't offer any parking but are within walking distance to the Metro station and bus lines. I've also noticed more mixed-use buildings that serve as both commercial and residential that previously weren't permitted. My guess is that these are both measures to either encourage more use of public transportation or to reduce the number of people that commute to work. Hopefully this new generation of Uber and Lyft riders will be more open to ditching a car and rely solely on public transport.
I bet they hate it to, the fact that you (you in particular) have to drive everywhere
16:12 "Do you think Californians want to live like this?" Cali NIMBYs certainly do. I live in the area of one of the newest planned Metro expansions and NIMBY clowns in the beach neighborhoods are complaining that it might bring "noise and traffic" to Inglewood Ave, and instead want it further east on Hawthorne Blvd. "Noise and traffic" yes electric trains famously are noisy and cause traffic, not like thats not just WHAT REGULAR STREETS IN LA ALWAYS ARE. Thats ignoring the totally not racist implications of "it might bring certain types of people with it too" theyre complaining about.
Like a lot of the US, older people refusing to change their way of life is directly contributing to Los Angeles (the metropolitan area broadly) being shit. When sprawling car dependent suburbians refuse high density buildings and mixed use zoning, or expanded public transport, they get exactly the problems they keep bitching about.
One thing I'll say though, the Highspeed Rail line is criticized for its path through the central part of the state but given the already bloated costs its the best part to do so. High speed rail needs long stretches of straight track to achieve said high speeds. Building through the coast would mean piling on even more costs as tunneling through the coast ranges all the way to SF would require.
Arlington TX NIMBYd themselves into oblivion. DFW’s whole rail system goes AROUND it. Unfortunately all of the people who voted to turn it into a stale pit are 80+ or dead now and can’t enjoy their declining property value.
This is so real. NIMBYs are the BANE of my NorCal city’s political advancements. Especially in transit. It’s honestly incredibly depressing
California NIMBYS are such a scourge on the state. If we are able to fix housing and transportation policy in Cali it would be the best state hands down. We just need the state government to lay down the hammer on the local governments that are abusing their power over housing policy just because a minority of well to do homeowners tell them to.
People seem to not understand that LA has suffered most of these problems for like a century now
Los Angeles is everything.
Los Angeles is a megalopolis surrounded by the smaller cities it couldn’t absorb.
Los Angeles is full of natural beauty, but also full of trash.
Los Angeles is full of physically active people in spite of its dangerously dirty air.
Los Angeles is obsessed with driving, but best observed on foot.
Los Angeles is older than many US cities (Chicago, Cincinnati, Washington DC, Atlanta etc.), but is obsessed with everything shiny and new.
Los Angeles is an eater’s paradise (the country’s best produce, almost every ethnic cuisine imaginable, fairly easy access to almost any ingredient), despite the pressure to be as skinny as possible.
Los Angeles is the skater kids of Venice, the studio employees of the Valley, the immigrant business owners of Chinatown, the annoying hipsters of Echo Park, the late-night crowd at Canter’s, the lost souls (and RUclipsrs) of Hollywood, the artists of Leimert Park, the mariachis of Boyle Heights, and everyone in between.
Los Angeles is Ray Bradbury, Nipsey Hussle, Sister Aimee Semple MacPherson, Pio Pico, Marilyn Monroe, Sid Grauman, and far too many other people to list.
Los Angeles is a study in contrast and contradiction.
Los Angeles is simultaneously great and terrible.
Los Angeles is, in its own way, everything.
that’s crazy… nyc clears
Damn, that's poetry.
Well put. When I last visited LA I was in awe of it’s sheer scale.
Thinking about how many people living there boggles the mind. Certainly not a place for an agoraphobe.
LA is in an unfortunate predicament as it’s geography makes it both beautiful in the way of climate and ugly in the way of the smog that’s trapped there due to the mountains that surround it.
The sheer amount of people also compounds the problem of a lack of water, along with the sheer stupidity of having pools or green lawns in a desert.
LA also embodies concepts of American exceptionalism and individualism. In many ways LA is a reflection of American ideals and beliefs. Sheer unadulterated selfishness and narcissism with a mix of ignorance and arrogance.
To me Los Angeles represents all the best and worst of the United States.
@@wnabi8469nyc obsessed with la as usual
No need for write a full page to explain L.A. Los Angeles is a piece of shit overcrowded, trafficked jammed, dirty ass city,. overfilled with talentless narcissistic babies with can't regulate their emotions. That's what it actually is. No need idealise it.
LA is such a hellscape, definitely one of the worst major cities in a rich country. But I will say by American standards there are definitely much worse places to be, like anywhere in most deep red states while not being wealthy or white. These places tend not to get much attention because they don't attract any global audience like LA does, so naturally we just compare LA to other major US cities like NYC and Washington DC which are just wayyyyy better cities.
Honestly, as an Oi Bruv, I know far more about American politics than I do British. It's one of the things that happen when America exports its culture around the world.
People don't realize the fact that if CA let the Chinese companies work on their high-speed rail, they could have done it with around 1/5 of the price and finished it like 8 years ago. 😂😂😂
But no, because WE ARE AMERICA! WE WILL NOT LET THE CHINESE BUILD OUR RAILS!! AGAIN! 😊😊

Fun fact Der Schuh des Manitu, released in 2001, is the highest grossing German production movie it is only the third most successful based on admission. With the other two both being East German films made in 1953 and 1947 respectively.
Thanks for the fun uploads
20:00 Ok as someone from that middle bit, hes completely wrong here. There are major population centers in the central valley. Fresno alone has a population of more than 500,000, which is greater than Sacramento and Oakland.
Yeah but 100 billion $ to build that is ridiculous
@@rokude better than the 100s of billions that are spent on car infrastructure every year
My father has a home in Ocala, Florida which I recently visited. It’s 15 acres of horse ranch property with a gorgeous 5 bedroom and 5 bath home, 3 car garage, and access to its own lake with great fishing and with a dock. Living in California, I thought it was worth 20 Million or more but it only cost $600,000. In California, that property would be worth 20 Million if in the absolute worst part of California and worth 200 plus million if in Hollywood or Beverly Hills. The difference is crazy.
Geopold does his research!
It would be a good idea if british people never made another video about anything ever again
Anyone else start dancing at the end of the video 💀
I know from literal decades of personal experience that you CAN get around LA and LA county and betweens counties using public transport. It just takes hours and changing transport services more than once.
Damn living in LA since birth I've never experienced any of these people or excesses. Damn I hate being poor
This is literally an ad for Wisconsin
So you're telling me that LA is a shithole because of American's vanity? We are 1 technological revolution away from Cyberpunk 2077

Hasan for sure originally moved to LA for the clout and connections or else he would've just moved to San Diego or even Orange County. Idk why he wouldn't wanna admit that.
Most of this except the fires are true of every urban sprawl city
Land value tax would fix this.

8:40 Imagine jacking up the prices of single family housing incredibly hard, before accusing a buyer of "hypocrisy about being a billionaire supporting socialism" I temporarily resided in SLO, CA which is right above LA, where single family homes are at least $1,5 million. Not a mansion or anything posh & pricey, just A MIDDLE-CLASS, SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE.
That’s 85 million dollar house isn’t in the city of Los Angeles. It’s a rich suburb city near la.
In the minds of people who live in LA, everything in LA county is LA and everything else is a suburb. Yes, even when it's literally a different municipality with its own government. It's all just LA.

The way american politics is structure is that even though majority of the american public thinks it’s a good idea, it needs 10 years to actually implement it because of the crazy amount of checks and balances that makes it extremely hard to change something in the country.

Too many people live in LA point blank. And theres too many cars. Which leads to high living standard.
There are other cities with bigger population but they don’t suffer these problems.
American system is deeply flawed, if that isn’t obvious to you after watching the video then idk what’s there to say.
The very fact that more populated cities exist disproves that. Yah cars are a problem.
Bro, it's literally cheaper to live in Tokyo than LA. Tokyo, one of the most densely packed cities in the world.
That's because Tokyo isn't surrounded by single family housing zoning on all sides and pervasively within the city.
@@fluidthought42 Bro, is it true that you can get away with sexual assaults and murders against the locals if you’re an American GI in Japan ?
Hmm, this fella seems to get a lot of things wrong about LA. Or, at the very least, there's a lot of misinformation by omission. But LA is such a complicated city/region with complicated problems that it can't be tackled in a 13 min video.
It's funny video and all that, but I don't know how I feel about it. I think to the casual viewer it exacerbates hate toward the population of California to some degree, even though that's not the intent of the creator (I assume).
