One of the most criminally under-rated bands of all time Tasha needs more Savatage in her life.
thanks God they choose to be under-rated
Yes she does
Jon Oliva can pour so much emotion into his singing. Love Savatage
...and so can Criss with his guitar. 🙏🏼🕊
I could listen to these guys forever and never get bored.... I always hear something new that I have missed. Savatage and Jon and Criss Oliva pure Genius, and so great as a band.
Criss Oliva Is in the 1% of my fav guitarist of all time very underrated guitarist and was taken from us from a Drunk driver that hit him RIP my brother! He was world-class and taken to early!
This song, this band..I'm blessed to have spent time with Jon and others from Savatage, and have this cd booklet and others signed. This band is so important to me and a massive massive massive influence on the music world. Criss Oliva still has the most haunting guitar licks..very happy you 2 did this
One of the greatest bands of all time.
Criss Oliva was a true guitar genius, he's a legend! Gone way too soon! RIP Criss
Love that you guys did some Savatage. By far, the MOST UNDER RATED UNDER APPRECITED BANDS in Metal. Criss Oliva on guitar was WAY ahead of his time and taken from us too early by a drunk driver. His brother Jon (on vocals) is an incredible writer and singer. Thanks for giving Savatage some love.
I loved this song...so full of passion...it just draws you in!
This song gives me chills, Sitting at work. Haha. Brings me Back to the 80's. Love Savatage. Like mentioned below, Greatly Under Rated back in the day.
Great deep cut from these guys. It's a fantastic song, so much power and emotion. I love how much T is into it as well.
Hoping you'll dive into more Savatage!!
Also check out Jon Oliva's Pain, which is what Savatage evolved into after 2002, following the successful "spin-off" of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) back in 1996.
Like When The Crowds Are Gone, Hardly anyone does that. It was thier second biggest hit on the album. Also Ghost In The Ruins. Criss was amazing no matter what song they choose.
You beat me to a TSO recommendation. This whole review made a Tampa boy cry. The only other thing I'd add is that this is like 30 years old and if if Jon has been giving it 110% for all that time I'm not surprised he's having throat problems. .

As I understand it, Jon's vocal problems occurred/worsened in the early 90s, which is why he stepped back from vocal duty and they brought in Zak Stevens, who stuck around for about 5 years (1993-1998) before parting ways, just in time for the final Savatage album to feature Jon back on full frontman duty.
Just prior to this, we did see Jon slowly emerging back on vocals with the latter 2 albums of the 4 that were released during Stevens' tenure with the band, and indication that Oliva was on the mend and resuming vocals, with reports saying his voice was "better than ever". Personally, I'm not sure how you determine if a gravelly, scratchy, screamy vocal style is better or worse, lol, but that was the consensus. I can totally see his voice finally waning at this point in time, though (if it has?), cos his age and his health are probably coming to collect the dues on the debts his substance abuse racked up.
Anyway, I was particularly disappointed when Zak left, especially when he did ; once Oliva was back to doing vocals, the contrast between his raspy gravelly style and the smoothness of Stevens brought about the collective term "the poet & the madman" to describe this vocal dichotomy. So when it was announced the (then) new album was gonna be called "Poets & Madmen", I got excited, thinking there was gonna be more vocals from Jon, and maybe even have the two sharing vocals on certain tracks to sort of pit them in a "dueling vocals" kind of thing, especially wit hall the counter-point vocals they'd been doing in albums up to then... but alas, P&M came out, sans Zak.
The only consolation was that "old Savatage" was back as far as the official frontman goes.
A fitting closure for the Savatage catalog, if you ask me, if the "poet & madman" was not to be.

BTW, don't let my comment stop you from recommending the TSO! 😀 I hope T&T will delve into it as the holidays roll around, maybe do a huge, full show delving into the "Christmas Trilogy" - three albums over 3 videos (or as many as needed if time constrictions are a factor). That would be a first for any reaction channel that I'm aware of.
Savatage and the most beautiful ballads ever made. All of them. They stick to me so much! Deep sh*t !
This guitar is just crying. What a LEGEND Criss is. The best.
I've always said; each generation is blessed with that one musician who just stands so far apart from the rest and reaches you both musically and emotionally they feel/seem part of your entire life, they're so special. I believe 'our' generation (70's-80's, prob. 90's too) was blessed with 3 . . . Van Halen, Mustaine and Olvia. Music or life would not be the same . . . at all.
I’m just glad to see you guys doing one of my favorite bands and Jon Olivia it’s still doing it today it’s amazing how this band transformed into trans Siberian Orchestra
Thank you for finally reacting to Savatage
Savatage has some of the greatest ballads ever, including epics that transcend typical ballad form. Some of the greatest songs you'll ever experience are "Alone You Breathe", "Not What You See", "Chance", "Edge of Thorns", "The Hourglass", etc...
A power ballad metal hymn from savatage. All time classic.
RIP Criss Olivia.
Man criss was my favourite my number 1 guitarist wow wat a gem along with Randy Rhodes
@@shubhamkumar8596 Criss, Randy, and Dime are my personal top 3. May these 6-sting geniuses R.I.P.
@@lucypoopies yeah these 3 were legend
One of the much underrated all-time greats.
Damn the 80's and early 90's had some great metal music.👊😳😎
Thank u for making this video!
More people should listen to this great band and their stories/albums. It's a life story.
Wow how did I miss this one? Loved listening to Savatage when I was in the Navy. Nice and powerful.
As a teenager, a friend told me to check out Savatage. Saw their CD "Gutter Ballet" at Best Buy. Track 10, "Summer's Rain." I was learning a song in second year band called Summer's Rain, figured it was the same song. Bought the CD, played track 10 first. It was, in fact, not the same song lol but I was instantly hooked. Managed to see them on their final "Poets and Madmen" tour.
Criss Oliva was every bit as good as any guitarist at the time!!!!! Savatage was very underrated!!
That voice you just got to love it excellent song excellent Wonder twin powers activate. I would love to see these guys and wasp in concert that would be one hell of a show
The solo in this song is best solo ever.
Well the good thing is they are working on a new album and Jon Oliva is gonna sing on it. He will have a some songs alone and the other singer will have some alone and then some where they sing together. And they will play at festivals next year too
Gutter ballet, when the crowds are gone, hounds, the thorazine shuffle ... ghost in the ruins, tonight he grins again, jesus saves ... are some of their best songs
they're so talented it's kind of ridiculous...
I grew up on this after I moved back to USA from Europe. Very unknown by many. Now it has become one of the biggest tours EVERY year. This bands essence is now Trans Syberian Orchistra , amazing.
Gutter Ballet and Edge of thorns absolute bangers
Love the Savatage, keep ‘em coming!!
One of Criss Oliva's best solos
Absolutely!
Perfect song, cool solo, Jon's voice awesome
Great band! You'd be hard pressed to find a bad song!
Ahhh yeah. You get it.
My favorite power ballad
This was really great!! I enjoyed this!! Great guitar work. The leads voice when he went to high pitch sounded a little like Robert Plant to me!!
nice. Interesting that Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpking listed Savatage as one of his favorite hard rock bands. T, you will see more of Billy soon.
I love Savatage. It reminds me of Tesla’s vocal a bit
I Believe from the debut album Sirens have some amazing guitar work. Solo after solo by Criss Oliva RIP
Anything Jon Oliva has his hands in...is just amazing...All his solo stuff, with Jon Olivas Pain...so good...what even needs to be said about Trans Siberian Orchestra....he is just an amazing singer/songwriter/musician...also...it seems that in 2024 there will be a brand new Savatage album coming.....something we all can use in our lives.
Jon Oliva is the metal god.
I’m glad you guys are playing this. One of the best and much better than the popular November Rain.
When the crowds are gone. Give it a listen to... Don't have to reaction video to it.... Just give it a listen to.
Excellent choice! Criss was taken way too soon! In my opinion this solo is Criss at his absolute best-melodic, creative and fits the song perfectly!
That song is so underrated.
Criss Oliva for me was the best guitarist of his generation and what made the band so good.
These guys are the Trans Siberian Orchestra nowadays
Jon said Savatage plans to release a new album next year
Never be able to Tie Olivia's Baby Shoes about like Jake E. Lee/ Brad Gillis trying to Replace Randy Rhoads No Chance Ever
I have been a huge Savatage fan since the early 80's and have all their cds. I have always preferred the Jon Oliva songs over Zac's ( still like both). I just liked Jon's vocals and range more. You should check his other music out from Jon Oliva's Pain they have some killer songs that have that Savatage sound and vibe to them. R.I.P. Criss Oliva.
Why isn’t savatage inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame?

Pura calidad Savatage 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭👈👹 limpieza en su toda su música los Hermanos Oliva
One of the most underrated bands ever. Saw them twice, they were phenomenal live. Plus Chris Olivia, RIP, was one of the most underrated guitarists . Love your guys reaction. You should check their song Hall of the Mountain King, awesome as well.
🔥🔥🔥
Getting deep into metal now I haven’t listened to Savatage in like 12 years.
Doesn't get any better than Savatage
This song is apparently the 2nd part in a trilogy which closes out the Gutter Ballet album. I find it a rather mis-matched arrangement cos this is such a beautiful power ballad, jammed between 2 heavy rockers, Mentally Yours and Thorazine Shuffle... Obviously by those titles, there is a theme of mental health being tackled, which is another reason I personally find Summer Rain to be such an odd selection to jam in between the two. Maybe I'm missing something, but in my custom playlists, this song gets pulled out of that "trilogy" and gets placed with other tracks from the album like When The Crowds Are Gone and the title track. Mentally Yours and Thorazine Shuffle remain back-to-back, though. 🙂
I dare you to find a bad Savatage song. 🤘❤️
The acoustic re-recording from 2011 is also awesome. It's just piano and guitar, but so good. Tasha might enjoy it a little more than this "heavier" version?
Bought the album upon its release. Been one of mu favorite bands since. Jon Olivia RIP
Cool. Jon Oliva is still alive tho
Well, if you just hear Savatage then check out all of them. What bout Hounds, The Unholy or Tonight he grins again?
Please react to their song In the dream
I like the list, however I would had Follow Me off of Edge Of Thorns and Castles Burning off of Handful Of Rain. Those are also bangers off of those lps.
good song, like when the crowds are gone better though.
