The most underrated band in history ... ever
@Malcolm Reynolds , Threshold or Royal Hunt are another underrated bands.
100% agree...
Rage from Germany is another one, especially their releases in the 80s and 90s
Indeed
METAL CHURCH TOO
Criss Oliva was one of the best guitarists in the history of metal. R.i.p. Died too young.
R.I.P Criss :(
No doubt broo 👍👍
At least they found Al Pitrelli who is even better although if he was still alive he’d be as good as Al because a guitar player never stops learning or getting better
Riff In Peace ❤
tampa here. thanks for remembering him.
This is one of the most METAL albums of all time. Savatage stand out and I always liked their slightly prog touch.
Well said mate slightly prog touch!
Indeed!!!
The joy on this man's face says it all. Almost 35 years later and still gives me goosebumps.
A truly infectious song. I'm only 25 but been one of my favorite songs since my mom's ex showed me Savatage when I was 13
Savatage is easily one of my favorite bands. Criss Oliva was one of the greatest guitarists ever in metal. When he died in '93 I was Crushed.
I think that was when they became Trans-Siberian Orchestra
They are one of my favourite bands as well.
Most underrated guitarist in metal music history. So much power and emotion in his riffs and solos.
wasnt that during livestock?
I was too. I still am.
"Queen of the Reich" by queensryche. AMAZING vocals!!!!! One of the most underrated rock singers.
Agreed
I would suggest "Take Hold of the Flame", vocals are even more epic. But, yes, some Queensryche needs to be experienced!
Operation Mindcrime
@@adameves5970 "take hold of the flame" is one of my favs. It is definitely a must!!!!
I've been asking him to do it for months!! Especially live in Tokyo 1984. As well as Take Hold of the Flame!
Check out Savatage - Gutter Ballet. Great album. Then listen to some Trans-Siberian Orchestra which was founded by Savatage members.
This song gave me goosebumps at 18 when it came out and at 50 it STILL gives me goosebumps!
52, and totally agree!
ME TOO, i did a Video about Savatage. But I think I forgot to mention how Epic this song is.
55yrs old and so do I !
Never thought I would hear this!!
Good choice!!!
My thoughts exaxtly !!
One of my FAVES!!!
Me too
Never clicked the like button faster, long live Savatage!
Vocalist Jon Oliva was featured in the lyrical version of Slam Jam's We're All Together Now (since you're a wrestling fan, there's a very good chance you're familiar with the main riff for that song)
Hall of the Mountain King has an instrumental intro, Prelude to Madness, which is the legit Hall of the Mountain King classical piece, other Oliva fronted Savatage songs worth checking out... Sirens, Scream Murder, The Dungeons are Calling, City Beneath the Surface, Power of the Night, 24 Hours Ago, Legions, Strange Wings, White Witch, Gutter Ballet, Hounds, and their magnum opus Morphine Child.
Jon Oliva wasn't the only singer who recorded material, there was also Zak Stevens (who's sings tenor rather than Oliva's baritone) Jon brought him in originally so he can heal his voice up (during his recovery he started a side project called Doctor Butcher, check out the song The Altar, guaranteed the intro will blow your mind) tragically though, his younger brother and Savatage lead guitarist Criss Oliva was killed by a drunk driver (some of Criss' most memorable solos include Ghost in the Ruins, When the Crowds are Gone, Edge of Thorns, He Carves His Stone, Beyond the Doors of the Dark, and I Believe)
Legends here in Pinellas county Florida
Can't say it better! Thumbs up bro well said! Rest in peace criss oliva
You want special? Metal Church Anthem To The Estranged.. Begin To Pray
most underrated band ever
@@laconflo1613 came from Tampa Though.
Great song from a great record from a criminally underrated band.
Criss Oliva was very underrated himself. Brilliant player and such a shame he was lost so young...
Had the privilege of seeing The Tage a few times and even had a smoke with Doc outside the venue. Cool cat.
heck yeah bro - Savatage!! Metal's most underrated band.
Savatage is a tragically underated band that should have been a lot bigger than they were. I saw them once with Dio, was awesome. Thanks for the reaction.
Seen them with Dio and Megadeth
Well, they did become bigger when the pretty much changed their name to Trans Siberian Orchestra
I saw them tour in clubs before they started breaking out. They were pure raw energy.
Helloween too ; ) Peace
thanks for remembering the days #yborcitynights
Savatage Finally :) Singer is Jon Oliva and the guitar player is his brother Criss.
His "late" brother.
RIP Criss
Criss was one of the most underrated guitarists in my opinion. Life cut tragically short. R.I.P. Criss
Chriss was badass
RIP Criss. one of the best ever......the most under hyped guitarist of all time..
Welcome to the Savatage family bro! Savatage never made a bad song. RIP Criss Oliva!... one of the best Metal guitarist that ever lived! Jon his brother and lead singer still works with Tri Siberian Orchestra.😎
Criss Oliva Is in the 1% of my fav guitarist of all time very underrated guitarist and was taken from us from a Drunk driver that hit him RIP my brother! He was world-class and taken to early!
Touches my heart! Was listening to this back in the day. My GRANDFATHER asked is that Hall of the Mountain King? HE RECOGNIZED THE MELODY FROM THE CLASSICAL PIECE!!!!!
Man, I love the direction this channel is taking.
Jinxed it
Never heard Savatage before. Will do more. This was awesome \m/
Wake of Magellan is an amazing album - I have been listening to them since 2001... if there is one album to definitely listen from them... that's the one.
Second best album I recommend is Edge of Thornes
They are amazing band!
There wouldve been no Trans Siberian Orchestra without these guys !!
@Victor R. here is a little write up but yes. (TSO) is an American rock band founded in 1996 by producer, composer, and lyricist Paul O'Neill, who brought together Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli (both members of Savatage) and keyboardist and co-producer Robert Kinkel to form the core of the creative team.
@Victor R. awesome ! The Savatage Gutter Ballet album is the first time you can hear the TSO sound start to form.
bro your face during this song....
it does exactly what my face does when i listen to it!
Dio,Oliva,Halford !!! Three Gods to never be again. No peace FOR DALE BROWN
One of THE great metal anthems of ALL time. It also hearkens back to an age when songs told a story. To this day, I get chills every time I listen to "Hall of the Mountain King." Well done, sir!
I just told my son last night that the reason I want to make music again and start a band, even though I'm 47, is because back then they told stories. Concept albums of bad ass metal, and yes fucking bad ass music.
Bad ass band. I seen them with Dio.
It's about TIME somebody in the Reactions paid some attention to SAVATAGE. Among the most underrated bands ON EARTH!!! They practically Invented Symphonic Metal... this song has a separate intro called "Prelude To Madness" that completely SHOOK the HEAVY METAL industry. If you want the song to last Longer, play it with the Prelude To Madness first... SAVATAGE has a side project you may have heard of call TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA. TSO was a dream of the late Lead Guitarist, Criss Oliva (RIP). When this album was recorded, material for TSO was already being recorded and produced.
Savatage - Believe
Savatage - When the crowds are gone
one of my faves!!!
To me this is the epitome of metal - probably the most metal song ever recorded!!! haha luv it!!!!
I love savatage , one of my favorite bands , rip criss oliva! one of my favorite guitar players of all time
Criss Oliva was the most underrated guitarists of all time!
Yah man..RIP Chris..I was at the Livestock concert in Zephyrhills FL they played at right before they got into a head on collision on 301 and we lost Chris Oliva...Guitarist extrodanaire
Rob Elkin yes he was
Kent Starr yes he was , his playing was great
OMG bruhhhhh!! You are feeling the power of Savatage like no other reactor has!! Jon's vocal performance and Cris' guitarwork is classic metal at its best. Keep them coming, Preston!!!
CRISS OLIVA. Guitar God. One badass fuckin guitar player
R I P. CRISS
NEVER FORGOTTEN
Facts one of the best vocal performences ever. And the solo was on point.
Couldn't agree with you more bro, one of the most underrated albums all time..it's such a great album
Nothing but chills and goosebumps!!! You are a TRUE METAL HEAD bruh....and you didn’t even know it all these years! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Really a special band, especially their first album and this one. The main chorus riff and the seemingly random rythym guitar stabs and licks during the verses turn what could have been a run-of-the-mill tune into a masterpiece. Add Jon's wails (clearly being enjoyed here) and Criss' aggressive shedding throughout... Flawless.
Oh, wow. Probably one of the most underrated bands, even from metalheads. I'd love to see your face if/when you listen to Jon screaming that unicorn line in Gutter Ballet.
R.I.P. Criss Oliva. Your guitar playing is sorely sorely missed!
such a shame he was amazing to hear live
Amen to that
R I P. CRISS
steelerfreak1977. Loved Criss shame he didn't get to see the success of TSO🤘
One of the biggest regrets I have in life is that I didn't "discover" Savatage until after Criss Oliva died.
I'm cracking up at his reaction when Jon does his laughs & special vocal screams ..savatage has been my favorite band since the 80' s when I heard this album..this producer Paul O'Neill & Savatage when on to become Trans Siberian Orchestra & finally got the fame well overdue..
Dude, you should hear his voice in Hounds, Gutter Ballet and when the Crowds are gone. Phenomenal. Savatage were / are one of my all time favourites.
HOUNDS! I'd pick Hounds!
hounds is f awsome!
My favorite band and always will be nobody like them
Throws off the headphones, lol you know it’s serious.
Good to see you enjoying this classic
Mav R ] That was classic in it,s self right their.
Hall of the mountain king
A solid fuckin 10
A heavy metal masterpiece
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Can’t go into Savatage territory without listening to “When the crowds are gone” Really shows off there range, epic.
Damn, I haven't heard Savatage in forever, and they're on my Playlist. Thanks for reintroducing me to them.
Jon Oliva : Singer, "Gutter Ballet" and "When the Crowds are Gone" are even BETTER !!! Songs you have to react next !!!!! What an amazing Concert back so many years ago....
Savatage - Chance! I think you'll love it!
Edge of Thorns, too. Different vocalist, but still good.
Chance is FIRE!
he will love chance, for the transitions
Morphine Child too.
I agree. We both have excellent taste in music.
Praise the rhythm guitarist, never forget him.
This was the first song I ever heard by Savatage and I've been a die hard fan ever since! This reaction is GOLD!
Couldn't click on this fast enough. Savatage... one of my all time favorite bands. Where do I start, lol. You're in for a treat if you dive into their discography. Also some members went on to form Trans Siberian Orchestra, alot of instrumentals in TSO stuff and their live show is crazy, but well worth listening to. Unfortunately this singer Jon left the band to do other stuff and eventually form Jon Olivias Pain, but their new singer is good as well. Savatage's album "Streets" is a concept album, they call it a Rock Opera and the whole album is terrific. Congrats on finding this band, prepare to rock with Savatage. Also since you're a fellow wrestling fan, check out "Slam Jam - Were all together now. The singer of Savatage and other great members from other bands (Anthrax, Pro-pain, Overkill and Type O) do this song which you will recognize once you hear it..
Some other songs you can check out by Savatage and Trans Siberian Orchestra are:
(So many great songs to choose from)
Savatage - Gutter Ballet
Savatage - Jesus Saves
Savatage - Chance (New singer)
Savatage - Edge of Thorns (New singer)
Trans Siberian Orchestra - Any of their live performances so you can see their stage show.
Sorry for the long post but there is so much to say about Savatage, a severely underated band in my opinion.
Back in the early 90s we would go to see (original band) at a local rock club here in Tampa, called the
Rockit Club. They had a outdoors stage set up out back of the club anda huge stage inside as well. They played the Rockit Club monthly back then. Always loved Johnny lee Middletons thunderous Bass.
Welcome to the world of Savatage,
A great and unique experience is awaiting you.
Yeah, when Jon's voice kicks in about a minute in... goosebumps from my arms to my legs to the top of my head. The song's a story and he is the storyteller.
Savatage is probably one of the most underrated bands in metal ever. So freakin talented, good starter song for them for sure. More savatage please!
Fun Fact: Al Pitrelli, currently in Trans Siberian Orchestra was a guitar player for Savatage.
Pretty sure that Trans Siberian Orchestra (at least when it was originally formed in the late 90's) was made up mostly of Savatage members. Even the Carol of the Bells song on the first TSO album was basicall just Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12-24) from the Savatage album Dead Winter Dead.
@@skeletankmcgraw7343 sounds right to me!
You are maybe the first person to react to Savatage, Gutter ballet is my favorite album with sings such as Summer's Rain, Gutter Ballet and When the Crowds are Gone. Streets also is a good album, Tonight he Grins Again and jesus saves ...
Ghost in the Ruins man, Ghost in the Ruins.
Probably my favorite song of them. Not the most mainstream but damn, that beginning groove, that fucking solo and that ending. Love this fucking song.
@@Lokiskade yes i forgot about that song, it is beautiful too, sadly Savatage are rarely mentioned or recognized these days
Can you hear me now. One of my all time favourite solos. That tone is just killer.
I've seen other react channels do it
Gutter Ballet is hit and miss. Sirens, Hall and Thorns are best. But that's just my opinion.
Yes, MTVs Headbangers Ball regularly played this video every Saturday night back in the 80's.. Great memories.
OH MY GOD!!! I'M SO F*CKING HYPED RIGHT NOW. I just saw this after a small vacations.
I've watched EVERY SINGLE ONE of your videos. I've been here since almost the very very start. I think I asked for this particular song like 100 times on the comments, and many more times I've asked for any Savatage song.
Like other people said, this is the MOST UNDERRATED BAND EVER. They're amazing. PLEASE do some more of their songs.
Try out:
Gutter Ballet
When the Crowds are Gone
Morphine Child
Devastation
...
OR, EVEN BETTER. Do a full album and hit 'Dead Winter Dead', which is a 100% flawless conceptual album that will BLOW YOUR MIND.
Cheers!
Finally somebody remember that fucking Great band!!!, yeah! More more more Savatage man, there is so many songs to hear: Sirens, The Dungeons Are Calling, Jesus Saves, Turns to Me, The Wake of Magellan, Stay With Me, etc etc. Give to your ears and senses the chance \m/
Jon Olivia was the lead singer and his brother Criss was the guitarist, but unfortunately, Criss was killed in a car crash some years ago. RIP Criss
One of the most underrated and unknown because of his untimely death... Chris Olivia was such an awesome guitarist he was doing things that only a few guitars were doing at that time and he did it with a lot of soul and feel, what a shame he didn't get to see the recognition that he always deserved!
Welcome to the world of Savatage! it is an awesome place to be and explore brother. Such an underrated band. The death of Chris Oliva (one of the the most under appreciated guitar players ever! RIP) crushed John and he did a lot of damage to himself. His vocals were never the same after that, but his climb back up from the darkness of that loss is an amazing story. #TSO When Zach started singing for the band it didn't hurt them, just made them different. I love both singers. Lyrically and musically this has been and will always be one of my favorite bands. Try some more, you will be happy that you did :)
Try Gutter Ballet from Savatage, it's an awesome song
Old Savatage is better. Dungeons are Calling. Sirens. Hall. Back when they were still heavy. Gutter is good but her should go back to the beginning and work his way up through the bands own evolution.
Exactly man, he would love it
sirens is awesome the when the crowds are gone worthy a mention too tho real friggen heavy
@@williamuptgraft1755 I love both eras. But I will say the Dead Winter Dead album has some pretty damn heavy songs.
Streets was a great album as well! Great rock opera.
Savatage - Strange Wings
Metal is not dead! I repeat! METAL IS NOT DEAD!! keep spreading the word Preston! Thank you 🙏🏻 for your reactions!
The first time i heard Savatage was Hall of the Mountain King Live. I forget who they even opened for. They have been my favorite band ever since.
Savatage are metal gods! You need to do some more reactions. STREETS is one of the best albums ever!
Thank you for reacting to this song. Savatage 24 hrs ago. Is a good song from this album
I’m a brazilian guy, saw this band a long time ago in Philips Monster of Rock 98 here in São Paulo brazil, amazing band! I Never forgot it!
I can't believe you reacted to Savatage "Hall of the Mountain king"!! The tune that blew my speakers in my Camaro in the 80s..Your right-This "IS" special.Good on you Bruh😀💥😀💥
Great reaction. I loved Savatage as a band. The singer and guitar player were brothers. The singer, Jon Oliva, and guitarist, Criss Oliva. Tragically, Criss Oliva was killed by a drunk driver in 1992, and the world lost one of the greatest guitarists on the planet. Other Savatage songs to check out : Carves His Stone (a different singer on that one), The Hounds, Jesus Saves, Ghost in The Ruins, and Sammy & Tex.
BADASS REACTION BRUH!!! Savatage is awesome!!! From that same album U gotta react to 24 Hours Ago 🤘🏼... you should also check out Gutter Ballet & When the Crowds are Gone from the next album....so badass...they morphed into the Trans-Siberian Orchestra & are bigger now than they were in the 80’z & 90’z....check out "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)" 🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼🔥
This is why the greatest metal bands can weave and tell these complex stories like no other genre, that's not layered tracks but pure artist skill.
Dude I reacted just like this guy when I first heard this masterpiece
I had the same reaction when i heard this song first time in 1996. This is my favourite song and album.
Savatage became the huge act known as Trans-Siberian Orchestra that does Christmas tours every year.
HAHAHA I was going to tell him tje same thing!!!! He needs to do TSO binge come Christmas time!!!
TSO tours about 75% of the year, not Christmas time. Chances of ever seeing Savatage in concert themselves, is slim to none.
@@jdsrcs8061
Yes. I agree. Preston needs to react to Carrol of the Bells, at least.
@@claytonscheiber3493 TSO use to play here every e
Christmas season but have not for several years, but they do play around every other year. They rock!!!!
One of the most underrated metal bands ever. Their lyrics and songwriting abilities were off the charts. Criss Olivia, who sadly passed away is, in my opinion, one of the best guitarists. Been a fan for ages and still listen to them often.
Basically anything Criss Oliva ever played on guitar is my favourite Savatage song.
If you wanted a specific genre of Metal for working out or playing sports, you can't get much better than Power Metal.
Too cheesy, maybe The Sword "God's of the Earth" but that's it
Thrashmetal, Grindcore, and Hardcore Punk are better music genres to workout too. I agree Power Metal is too cheesy. Working out to Bad Brains, Cro-mags, Madball, Discharge, etc. is much better.
@@Gregbaltzer maybe you can do Live Action Role Play to Power Metal, thunder bolt fireball lol
Seen Savatage in 1988 when they opened for Ronnie James Dio and Megadeth.
I also seen that tour, it was in Saginaw Michigan, was an awesome show.
Same..in Rochester NY war memorial. Excellent show
Stewart Fields 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Saw that one too!........Green Bay
@Victor R. It was a great show. In 1988 I was 24 years old. I went to allot of concerts in my lifetime. I still go to allot of concerts. 2 times this year already and it'll be 6 by the end of next month. This is what I choose to do. Go to concerts. I love it !! Still !!!
Savatage was sooooo good in concert. I remember sick mosh pits and a wall of sound. These guys kicked serious ass!
thanks for remembering the days. they rose like phoenix down here.
That riff playing is so smooth the guitar playing is just
The band is from my hometown of TAMPA. Try GUTTER BALLET, OF RAGE AND WAR, 25 HOURS AGO, JESUS SAVES, TONIGHT HE GRINS AGAIN, WHEN THE CROWDS ARE GONE, SHE'S IN LOVE
Love Savatage. Edge of Thorns or Gutter Ballet next, please. Thanks.
Don't forget Handful of Rain or Chance.
I love it so underrated
Gotta do Gutter Ballet!
Believe!!
Edge of Thorns has a different singer... Have to make sure he knows that
"If it sounds good, you'll hear it If it looks good, you'll see it If it's marketed right, you'll buy it,
but if it's real, you'll feel it." Kid Rock
You were definitely feeling this!
When the list of the greatest voices in history is written, Jon Oliva's name will be on it.
So true
Fuk yes!!! Finally some Savatage.. met Jon once, really nice dude, from St.Pete/Tampa same as I. Seen them at Livestock in Tampa FL back in the day, they were amazing live & Criss shredded on the axe.
i have asking for this for 2 years.....SIRENS is also super great....come on 2 million views...old school is still the best school
Steven Boyce, Yeah Sirens, the whole album was good. I still play also The Dungeons Are Calling and Power of the Night albums often, a lot. Of cause Hall of the Mountain King is still epic album. Still I like them a lot,.. 👍
This song has been on my playlist for years. One of my fave mountain biking songs...just absolutely kicks ASS!

I had the opportunity to see them play this Live a couple times before Jon retired from singing
When did he retire? I saw a live video from a concert I believe was around the late 90’s and didn’t look to be in great health then.
@ Right after Streets he pretty much retired his voice. So... 91/92? Saw them before and after then. He was quite heavy and playing keyboards when i saw them later. He did sing two songs though
Glad you liked it.... check out their song Power of the night
Savatage was so underrated it was criminal, Criss Oliva RIP was and is probably one of the most over looked guitar players ever, And not to mention the Voice on his brother Jon is one of the most unique in metal! I'm so glad you found this band!

Savatage is a great band but underrated! react to When The Crowds Are Gone
Arash Sh , I love that video, especially the part where Criss Olivia is playing the solo to his wife Dawn. He died in their accident in 93 but she survived and lived in physical and emotional pain for years until she passed in 05.

For some reason they always had a great metal/rock selection. \m/ \m/ First Savatage album I ever bought after first hearing of them in '85. I actually got to talk to Al Pitrelli and Chris Caffery in 1998 on a college radio show when I called in. Wake Of Magellan had just come out. Hey Preston, love the reactions! This is as close as I'll ever get to experiencing these songs for the first time. I love the fact that you actually take the time to appreciate the music, and the time it took the artists to create it.
