Great guitar work by Chris Caffery and Al Pitrelli 👍. You can see a direct line from this to Transsiberian Orchestra or TSO. Created by producer Paul O'Neill RIP and the Savatage guys

    Fun fact about this band.
I thought it was cool you mentioned Andrew Loyd Weber. There is a connection between him and the band.
Before the making of the album Gutter Ballet, Paul O'Neal (the producer of Savatage and TSO) Told Jon Oliva and Criss Oliva you guys are more than a hard rock band. He bought tickets for Jon to see the Phantom of The Opera. When Jon got back to the studio he saw a piano. Under the lid was Yoko Ono and John Lennon's name etched in the piano. Freaked Jon out of course. He sat down and started playing Gutter Ballet. The rest is history.

Good news: According to Wikipedia, the boy (not a girl, as previously believed) was reported to have survived the incident. So, evidently she did reach a relief station. Anyway, the reason Kevin Carter did not help the girl was because he was ordered not to because of the risk of contracting disease. I think that haunted him the rest of his life and that's why he killed himself.

I just can't listen to Savatage after Criss without noting his absence. It's not that there aren't things to appreciate, but what's missing is always hanging over it. The guitar work is still technically adept, but Criss' musicality just always felt so tasteful and right. He was one of a kind.

    • @CanYouHearMeNow929

Criss was undeniably unique, a fact beyond question. Even so he remained relatively obscure and underrated. Had everything ceased with Criss' passing, his legacy too would have met its end. I know it's hard to not notice his absence but it's good that you do still listen. I have a hard time understanding the fans that don't. With the band continuing on with Savatage and subsequently TSO, Criss has started to garner the recognition he so much deserves in recent years. TSO's success has brought greater attention to Savatage today, primarily driven by the unwavering dedication of Criss' brother and fellow band members. The essence of Criss' influence is an ever-present current coursing through the music they continue to bless us with today.

The description you read states the story is fictional. The CONCEPT of the album is a group of kids breaking into an old abandoned asylum for an adventure, and finding this photographers file. That is the fictional account. As a side note, The original release of this cd contained the loose photograph tucked into the sleeve. I still have it, even though the cd is long gone.

You can do whatever you want, nobody is stopping you. However people can also do whatever they want with you if they don't like what you are doing. Law of the Jungle, baby. I have only ONE LAW that I abide by, and it is this: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The rest can stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
