The legendary birds in the crown tundra was the perfect way to modernize the roaming legendaries. Every game from now on should have roaming legendaries like this, where you follow them and catch them, but you don’t know where they are specifically, you just go into a route and if you hear the cry you look around until you found it.

I mean I love catching legendaries as much as the next guy but doing the same thing a dozen times to get them all rather than them having their own little part of the map dedicated to them just doesn't do it for me. Plus having all of them just inherently makes each individual one feel less special. Man, I jumped back into Pokemon recently to see if I wanted to get the expansion, and good lord. I've been playing a lot of Hades recently, and there is just so much personality and charm in that game. There are 300,000 words of A+ voice acting, and it really pulled me into the story *of a roguelike*. The script is amazing too. It remembers all sorts of stuff, like which gods you've talked to on your run, how your last encounter with somebody went, where you've died in the past, and which weapons you've been using. It zeroes in on dialog relevant to how you personally have been playing, and it must have taken a ton of work to get it performing as well as it does.
It will never stop frustrating me that relatively small operations like Supergiant, with only 20 employees, can put out these fluid, engaging, polished experiences on a limited budget. Meanwhile, The Pokemon Company can slap together a game with hundreds of employees and more money than god, and it still *barely* clears the bar of what would have been acceptable on the first gen 3DS. There's just no way I can play the two games back to back and not think "wow, gamefreak legitimately does not care about the quality of their product."

Honestly, I don't even think gamefreak got lazy in the middle of making the game, remember when they said they split two teams in half? One to focus on Sword and Shield and another to focus on a game noone probably remembers anymore? The deadline for the release of the game didn't help either and they probably couldnt focus on important stuff and all that. I'm pretty confident that the next main line games are gonna be better, they can literally just build up from sword and shield and just add more additional content and shit. Since they even have the files for all the pokemons so far in sword and shield ( i doubt they are gonna even bother recreating the models )
They also recently announced that they were able to hire more people. So that's something.

It should also be pointed out that not all of the LTH crew members were from gamefreak (a lot of them were from other companies like Zaxx Inc). I'm guessing that the biggest issue Sw/Sh had was time (although I've heard a few rumors about them being incompetent programmers).
Maybe the additional 30-40 people might have helped, but I think what gamefreak really needs is a nice, long time to develop one good pokemon game (while still letting their employees take turns working on passion projects).

It's not necessarily the graphics of the game that look cheap(I think the game looks quite nice personally), but rather the animations. The animations are definitely cheap.
And on top of that, it's more the game feels cheap than looks cheap, so that also extends to the dialogue and story elements. Sword and Shield lack a ton in the animation department.
For me though, they make up for it in the sound design, art design, and competitive multiplayer focused aspects of the game. All of that stuff is pretty spot on if you ask me.

The ship has sailed for me, I see everyone having fun but I already paid $60 to have fun in the base game and didn't, it feels like diminishing returns at this point. Especially since none of the new Pokémon really excite me and I've already caught every legendary.
It's kind of depressing how often they resell that specific feature actually... We could catch every legendary to date in Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, but somehow this is still a feature to ask an extra $30 with. Same with follow Pokémon, but every game with it prior did a more consistent job with it.
Oh yeah, and the co op feature only works for friends who pay for NSO and also bought the DLC, non DLC players can't join on the Dynamax Adventures with their base game unlike before with the dens. I wasn't expecting it to be, but it's worth pointing out before someone says "they aren't specifically selling Dynamax Adventures only in the DLC" because yeah they kind of are otherwise they would have patched that. It's a paid feature, and it's a big core of the DLC.
Additionally unsettling, Pokémon Go compatibility with Home and thus Sword and Shield hinges on Sword and Shield already having the Pokémon in the pokedex. So if you caught Darkrai this week in Go and thought you'd transfer it, sorry, unless you paid for Home premium to transfer from paid Bank from paid other games, or pay to have DLC to recatch the legendaries at least once, you're SOL. Though, not sure if Darkrai is included in the DLC? Even more chance you're SOL in that case.
... Yikes, truly I didn't mean to go off here. I'm happy they've produced better content that is making all of my friends happy. I just have the sinking feeling that the little nefarious "devil in the details" is ruining my enjoyment of my favorite franchise, because I morally don't want to stand by a company with bad consumer practices, and TPC is not being forthright with us or our investments. I don't see anything about what they've done since launch that leads to any self reflection on how they handled 2019's PR disaster and the decisions that lead up to it.

The thing that has me loving this is the challenge of max raid dungeons. Yes there are only so many Pokémon, but the kind of strategy you have to do to build your team without dying, and then chipping down the HP of the legend? So fun, especially since the legends are really hard. Especially the box ones. I play with my friends, and we had a Palkia fight be decided by 7 points of HP. If that person died, we would have lost as we were out of lives. The feeling of 4 friends, 2 with sword and 2 with shield, and slowly grinding them all out where each new move feels like the difference between life and death, it’s absolutely thrilling. And I love that the shiny rate is higher too. Shiny legends should be special, yes, but there is a joy of having your girlfriend ask “why is Lugia pink” after a tough fought battle. It’s not absurdly rare, but it’s still rare enough for it to be special. It’s genuinely given me the most joy with this game, and I hope this kind of dungeon crawling makes a return in future installments. It’s a great idea, and their best method to grandfather in legends to date. It’s not a chore. It’s an absolute blast. Play it with friends if you can. You won’t be disappointed

I saw all the red flags during the development like the whole National Dex fiasco and how poorly the staff at Game Freak tried to justify it, so I waited and watched a Let's Play to see what the whole package had to offer before making my decision. Long story short, I thought it was barely an improvement over Sun & Moon, a game I already had a few problems with structurally, and the most it got from the transition to the Switch were Wild Areas and Dynamaxing, the former being woefully undercooked, and the latter being all flash and no substance. Even if both DLC improved on those areas and offer a more fulfilling experience, it doesn't matter if the base game it's attached to is mediocre at best. I've said it before, but Pokémon has become stale; more than any other Nintendo property, it needs its own Breath of the Wild to reinject life into it.

Having to use rental pokemon for the max den, the risk of losing and the absence of the shields is what truly makes that game mode fun. One time you go all-out attack, the next you are the status saboteur, the next you are the support. You actually have to strategize for a change, which makes it super fun.
For example: one time I saw my team was primarily offensively based, so I decided to choose the more support-oriented Togetic, a pokemon I would normally never use. I basically spammed Life Dew whenever somebody received damage, since my own attacks weren't going to do much anyways and my teammates had low defenses. In doing so I had saved a teammate from fainting on 4 seperate occasions. I also saved a low teammate from a strong dragon attack with a well-timed Follow Me.
Then the final boss arrived: Groudon. Two of my teammates were weak to ground thanks to terrible pokemon luck, so I suspected a ground attack to come. So I decided to use Follow Me to lure in the attack. First round: teammates either increase offensive power or deal damage. Groudon uses Max Quake. Does nothing on Togetic. Second round Groudon gets to 20% of his health. Uses a ground move AGAIN. Does absolutely nothing. Next round Groudon lies defeated.
And this is but one of the instances where I felt my choice actually mattered. Sometimes I chose well, sometimes I chose poorly (FE: used Glare twice when a teammate wanted to use Will-o-Wisp, wasting a chance to attack). It's waaaay more fun than the base game could ever have given me.
(Oh, and the increased shiny rate helps too)

The world design in crown tundra is exactly what we players of old wanted. It's like secrets everywhere - twists and turns, up and downs - we have to navigate through the game like we once did on Mt. Moon back in RBY up to the Dungeons in DPP.
It's great to have that exploration thing back instead of a straight line and one small room to the side ... nah fam - it's great that way.

This DLC shoud have been free for how luckluster the main game was.
It would make Sw/Sh from 3/10 to 6/10

I find it funny that he calls them "legendary dogs" when just last year it was confirmed they were based off of a Lion, Tiger, and Leopard respectively.

@@Fungo4 people have been arguing about it since they first appeared. However a recent interview had the debate of what they were was mentioned to the artist who designed them. They Re called the "Legendary Beasts" in official media but English speaking fans kept onsostng they were based on wolves or something. The artist who designed them were like "I based them off of a Lion, tiger, and black leopard." And so it finally ended the "debate" over what they were.

If you want to get both of the new Regis, you can make a second profile on your Switch, catch them, and deposit them into Pokémon Home, then move them to your main save file. Obviously this also works for the other legendary in the DLC too
