Ginny and Eric can you guess where Thomas Aquinas probably got that inspiration? From the Bible! Luke 6:27-31
"27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you."
In my opinion, this is probably the verse St. Aquinas got his inspiration from. Pax Christi to you!

Put religion aside and you will end up showing why Catholicism is right on this issue, i.e. children's rights.

So many advocates for same-sex L marriage” making pointless remarks here.
I’ve had two long-terms homosexual relations before turning to Jesus and I lived as a gay man for thirty years, so they can’t fool me: homosexual relations are never the same as straight ones. Already the choice to purchase or adopt children is totally different from a real, heterosexual couple.
And Jesus can heal from SSA, if someone really believes in Him. I know it, because I’ve lived it.

I’m in the process of becoming Catholic. I am also a gay man. This is really the one subject that has never made any sense to me. And not because it applies to me.
The arguments against consensual, loving, committed same-sex relationships just don’t hold up. Jesus said that we shall know them by their fruits in regards to theological teaching. Studies have shown that denying your sexuality and participating in conversion therapy leads to increased depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Those are obviously bad fruits from a bad theological tree.
I will be the first one to stand with the Catholic Church to call out promiscuity. But there is a clear distinction between promiscuity and a loving, committed relationship.
It seems that the church has put these standards of living that are just impossible to uphold. Priests are required to take a vow of celibacy. But a recent study shows that most priests break that vow. And a decent proportion break it many times (both heterosexual and homosexual priests).
I am falling more and more in love with Catholicism and it’s core values. But I also pray for discernment. It’s healthy to wrestle with these things. I think blindly following along is quite dangerous and detrimental to one’s being and faith. To wrestle and question oftentimes leads to a deeper faith.

Can you link that study? No one is saying they can’t have committed and affectionate relationships, they just need to be plutonic and chaste. The fruits argument isn’t strong because by it other lifestyles contrary to Church teaching can be rationalised and also a good argument can be made that it actually produces bad fruit. The Catechism doesn’t say they should deny their sexuality, but rather that ‘By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.’ (2359). The basis for the Church’s teaching is in sacred scripture, Apostolic tradition and natural law, so it won’t change. Jesus spoke against sexual immorality, the Greek word porneia, which is basically any sexual act outside the covenant relationship between a man and a woman. If I can offer one positive note to a life of celibacy, or singleness, is that you can devote yourself fully to the service and will of God, and great will be your reward in the life to come, because God will know the greatness of your sacrifice and your trial. It’s possible to gain self mastery. Many great saints have achieved it, St Paul, John, Augustine, Aquinas… the list goes on and on, not to mention Jesus himself. A man named Becket Cook, though evangelical, might be a source of encouragement to you. I’m glad your considering Catholicism, it’s sacraments and devotions especially will be a great source of supernatural strength for your journey home to heaven.

Arguments based on definitions are a waste of time as the definitions chosen often limit what people are talking about. In this case the discussion focuses on a dumb definition of marriage offered by a proponent of gay marriage. The discussion then goes on say how dumb it is and then comes up with a more traditional idea of what marriage is.
The reality is that marriage is two things. It is a type of contractual or legal arrangement. In addition in the Catholic Church it is a sacrament. Now one can understand that Catholics do not want their religious idea of marriage tampered with. Makes perfect sense. However this does not mean that you should stop others from being married in a civil sense. Before Christianity marriage in the Greek world was far more commercial.

Second, you should distinguish cultural practices (subjected to human errors and changes) from magisterial documents, and show if the Church officially teached/teaches that it is appropriate for old men to marry young kids, as you say.

There is a unique kind of love that is expressed romantically and sexually, and these feelings grounded in sexual attraction can be a basis for a deep and rich love that goes beyond mere sexual attraction yet is expressed sexually. That's why there's a sexual component implicitly to marriage. The fact that there is a sexual component to marriage does not entail marriage must be tethered to a reproductive purpose.

For this reason, it’s ridiculous that the church thinks that the sole purpose of marriage is to procreate. Clearly, procreation can and does happen outside of marriage. There are also kids of gay parents, divorced parents, and unmarried parents and orphaned kids that need loving parents to adopt them, gay or straight. These ideas are dumb and outdated. Not to mention the harm this sort of talk causes to gay kids and teens who are not equipped to handle people treating them like second class citizens. I wonder what Jesus had to say about that.

There are different kinds,of love, notably erotic and platonic love. Platonic love applies to universal love, example love for children, parents, relatives and friends. It is not erotic. There are relationships that are taboo according to the holy scriptures, the bible. Erotic relationships between 1. Parents and children. 2. Siblings and close relatives 3. With dead persona 4. With married people . 5. With people of the same sex. Items 1 and 2 is incest. Item 4 is adultery. The term love and love wins is a misleading statement. It's purpose is to confuse, notably the youth and the children. That is clear as stated n the bible starting from the book of Genesis. What is happening now is partly the negligence of parents who refuse to guide their children, do not care at all or is afraid to oppose new ideas that are contrary to God's design the natural law. I think the term equality and human rights has been misused. Reak Christians must make a stand and not just keep quite otherwise secularism will dominate our values and our youth will go to a wrong direction.

I don't like when the church tries to say their rules are for gay and non gay couples. It's not. You will never meet gay people where they are when you pretend it's their not being heterosexual that is the problem. God made different kinds of people and Jesus never said anything... therefore it's wrong? Not a very compelling argument. Paul wrote against the pagan practices of child prostitution and sex slavery, not consensual, egalitarian relationships between adult partners. The sex wasn't the issue.(David and Solomon had hundreds of wives and nobody bats an eye.) The worship of pagan Gods violated the First Commandment, and that is what is being condemned.

@@kylejhartman That's a misrepresentation of what I said. My point is that the Bible shows us examples of flawed characters who at certain moments, do great things. In these moments, these are the traits that we ought to try and emulate. However just because Abraham shows great faith in one moment, it does not mean we should try to emulate everything that he does. Christians believe that Jesus lived a sinless life, so it would follow that we should try to follow his example all of the time. Abraham's grandson Jacob is a great example of a character who has four wives and as a result, his family deals with huge divides, rivalry and jealousy amongst his twelve sons. The ideal image that is presented in the Bible is of one man and one woman who come together to form one flesh. In cases where there are multiple wives, it is always a major plot point that causes division, suspicion, and usually exile or death from the family.

Agreed with all of the other points.
What about the point where St Paul states though, that there is no more Jew or Gentile and no more Man or woman yet only those in Christ?

The first time the word “homosexual” appeared in any bible was in the Revised Standard Version (RSV) published on February 11, 1946. In the RSV’s translation of 1 Corinthians 6:9, the word “homosexual” was used in lieu of the Greek words “malakoi” and “arsenokoitai.” Many researchers agree today these words translate more accurately to “effeminacy,” and “pervert,” or “sexual pervert.” The decision to use the word “homosexual” instead of the accurate translations was voted on by the RSV committee.
Researchers Kathy Baldock and Ed Oxford discovered a letter written to the RSV committee by a young seminarian named David. In the letter, David points out the dangerous implications that could come with the mistranslation and misuse of the word “homosexual.” Dr. Luther Weigle, the head of the translation committee, wrote a letter back to David S. to acknowledge their mistake, APOLOGIZE, and commit to correcting their GRAVE ERROR. (These documents will be explored further in the upcoming documentary "1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted A Culture")
Unfortunately, the revised version of the RSV which replaced “homosexual” with “sexual perverts” wasn’t published until 1971 - 25 years after the mistranslation occurred. By then, other translations of the Bible had applied the RSV’s use of “homosexual” in biblical texts. The damage was done.
