Awesome, I have been thinking about his old show John Safran Vs God just recently. Glad to see he is still up too mischief !! As just a random white left leaning person but NOT far left living in the inner west in Sydney. Ive heard some crazy shit since Oct 7th. I've had honest conversation with multiple people about their outward support for Hamas and Hezbollah. The supporting of hostage taking and justifying not giving them back. Really wild stuff. Its been extremely depressing to see the lack of nuance and the creeping antisemitism in them over the past year. If I bring up antisemitism to them they laugh it off like it doesnt exist and I've been brainwashed.
It's been a similar experience living in Northern suburbs of Melbourne. This 'end justifies the means' attitude to supporting barbarism and the widespread conspiratorial views on the left with regards to Oct 7 and zi*nism has been quite an eye opener.
Josh Szeps when ‘unpacking’ an idea, proposal, and or proposition is interchangeable with undertaking to justify said idea, proposal, and or proposition. Josh the term unpacking is to clarify/make clear/make plain. Josh Szeps ‘unpacking’ = advocate/validate and or garrison.
The thing with Australians is that we don't actually know what Multiculturalism means, even though it's literally contained in the word. I was guilty of this until fairly recently. The British understand perfectly, so if like John, you simply don't get how Foreigners could possibly be against it, I suggest you look up some British pundits on the subject. In brief: we have one culture and one set of laws. We all assimilate regardless of our Ethnicity. That's one Culture. Big C culture. Australian Culture, and it governs all of our public facing behaviour. A multiplicity of Cultures means in actuality: Tribalism. Separate courts, languages, customs, etc. Or put simply: Chaos.
Lol safran is becoming kookier as he gets older, just as we all suspected he would. Mainly in terms of being more chaotic & harder to follow because he's leaving a third of all his thoughts in his head & verbalising the rest. I look forward to his later years when he devolves into speaking only in riddles.
Safran was on the Net in 1996 reading about conspiracy theories claiming that the Mossad was behind the Port Arthur massacre? The Internet didn't really take off for at least a couple of years after that in the town I grew up in.
If Safran actually made coherent sentences at the start when making his points, then maybe he wouldn't spend the next 10 minutes arguing that Josh is poking holes in it just for the sake of it....
I am a big fan of josh, but I have to say this was one of the hardest interviews to follow. Both of them riffing too frequently, and interrupting each other, made it impossible to actually understand what the hell they were talking about
Interesting content, however; you both drove me crazy because neither of you finish your sentences. On top of that you cut each other off all the time. Really frustrating.....stop it!
I've never stopped loving John Safran and there's something particularly captivating about hearing him discuss topics on your show, it's great
Great choice of guest.
John is a very singular Australian mind and appreciated. Great to see him keeping Josh in check lol.
Surely the Palestine issue is one of land ownership not religion?

Isn't math a USA term and maths Australian. You highlighted Johns point of cultural sway.

Interesting convo, I enjoyed the back and forth! But I don't enjoy quests who can't seem to just listen for more than 2 seconds without interrupting.

To be fair, it was pretty difficult to follow what Safran was trying to actually say without the prodding.

If I went on Rogan multiple times and my own podcast had only 750 views after 17 hours, I’d just give up.
He's looking like Fr Bob,
Time waits for no man.
I miss Father Bob; that show was peak Safran. Glad someone else remembers it ✌
