Wow. I don't think I can count on how many times I got goosebumps! Especially in the tenor solo section! My college choir is doing this arrangement and it is so beautiful.
My district honor choir did this song my senior year in high school. Our rendition was different, and I greatly enjoyed it. As enjoyable as that might have been, I have to say that I have never heard this song more beautifully done by any other choir I have heard, which includes RUclips. I absolutely loved it.
It's been a long time since I heard this song since I did it in choir in middle school. So professional like and beautiful, I learned something that I didn't quite understand when I sang it. It really does help to know the story behind the lyrics and bringing that story to life.
Am smiling as I read comments about how this is an "English Song." There are about 100 different lyricists who penned words to this Irish folk tune aka Londonderry air... including Hickson's "would God I were the tender apple blossom" (blech... we referred to that one as London Derriere...sorry)... to the beautiful poetry of Thomas Moore. Weatherly WAS an English attorney who dabbled as a lyricist and wrote the words (oh Danny boy) as we know them today.Scholars still debate however,as to the true meaning of the lyrics.Look it up.This a cappella arrangement,exquisite.Only sorry the recording was not of better quality.But under the conductor and the young people here and given the conditions... VERY nice indeed.And my thanks to cobilover2003 for promoting beautiful choral music!

It is admittedly one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, and with the addition of the Danny Boy words makes it a very emotional song. A similar story goes to the song O Peggy Gordon, which of course is way into its own category. And aye, I have heard about the song used as a sporting events' anthem, but more suited as a funeral dirge in the States -

In the version my treble choir is singing its “all the roses falling” but I like this version too!
