My son, Danny, was born 6 weeks early. He and I stayed in the hospital four days. Upon release I walked out the front doors and to the nearest bench to wait for my ride. An elderly man sat beside us. He asked to see him and commented what’a wee little fella’. He had a bit of an Irish Accent. He asked his name and when I told him, he asked if he could gift him something, curious, I of course said yes; he sung this whole song too my enfant. I just knew he was Danny’s Guardian Angel !!! What a truly lovely moment and a Gift from God above! I knew that he would be fine and grow up strong! And he has. Thanks 🙏 for listening to my old tale. Blessings to all of you. Amen 🙏
Seventeen years ago I left the hospital where my wife had just passed and the local radio station was playing "Danny Boy"! That was heart touching and yet a blessing. Ten years ago a DNA test showed I am 98.1% Irish. I am 86 years old now and am planning a trip to the Emerald Isle with my son & grand-son this summer.
Mr. True, I am very sorry for your loss and am happy you have found comfort in this song. I look my own DNA test a few years back, which showed that I am one-third Irish/Celtic. Ever since, I have dove into Irish songs, sports, and the culture itself. I hope to travel to Ireland in the near future, and I hope you have a great trip!
That touched my heart my friend. I have been married just over 30 years and the idea of not having her struck me 🙏🏼💜🙏🏼 May God bless your path. Best regards from eastern Oregon ♥️🇺🇸
This was my grandmothers favourite song. She was Catholic of strong Irish Ancestry, but born and brought up in England. Everytime I hear, O Danny Boy it reminds me of my grandmother..
I'm one of those people who can't hear Danny Boy without immediately bursting into tears (the 80% of my DNA that's Scottish/Irish, I guess?). This is such sublime perfection. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful performance.
It is darkest before the dawn. Foster a vibrant light inside of yourself and it will radiate outwards and become a beacon for others. Remember always that darkness cannot exist where there is light, but even a small flicker of light can endure and be seen in the darkness.
Although I am not an Irish, I am deeply toutched with your chorus bringing me to a nostargic world. I am a pure Japanese. I love Irish songs.I appreciate you so muc.
@@chrissydidit811 it’s not an English song; it’s a very old Irish (to be specific, Derry) tune. However, the lyrics best known to the world are indeed written by an Englishman, hence why those are sung here. Check out Sean o se - Maidin I mBéarra for the original Irish lyrics.
@@chrissydidit811 Actually I revere the song from way back. The Irish are in all of us. Yes my family is from Scotland and Ireland, centuries of history. My Dad born 1935 in old Hastings (Southern England) before WW2. I have photos of him with my Grandma walking in Brighton when he was 7 years old during the war. It's an amazing capture, and yes it belongs in a Museum.
A truly beautiful song. It's the first tune that my father sang to me at the age of 6. I've sung it many times, and have never finished it without a tear in my eye. Long live 'Danny Boy'.
For my dear father whose heart stopped beating on 20 Dec 2020. We miss him in this realm but he is surely watching over his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. RIP John, best dad ever.
If there is any music on our beloved planet, that truly touches ones soul, it is... this. To me, this is beauty at it's purest, filled with heart, soul and love. I will proudly say, I shed a tear or... five, when I listen to this, simply cause it touches my very soul. Thank you ever so much, Choral Scholars, for sharing your talent and passion with us.

Danny Boy - Choral Scholars of University College Dublin & Desmond Earley - from our second album, 'Perpetual Twilight' - available to buy and stream on all major music platforms. hyperurl.co/PerpetualTwilight Lyrics: Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side, The summer’s gone and all the roses falling, It’s you, it’s you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow, Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow, It’s I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow, Oh, Danny Boy, oh Danny boy I love you so! But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying, If I am dead, as dead I may well be Ye’ll come and find the place where I am lying, And kneel and say an Ave there for me; And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me, And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be, For you will bend and tell me that you love me, And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
Your two new leads are phenomenal! I expect both of them to lead brilliant careers well after they graduate! Further, the harmonies are otherworldly. The chorus is dressed like saints and angels, and the music fits!
I watch the live broadcast at 1pm and sense the peace and felt ready for 2022. It also felt like Ireland calling on me, so once the pandemic is over, I must visit Dublin. Thanks!!!
Somewhere far in my memories I hear it as if it were yesterday, as cloudy as they become, I cherish all the old age songs that built our traditions and families. This song is such a sad farewell/sending off song. It just hits you.
Clear, vibratoless sopranos, hitting that high note - aye 'tis pure as the water from which the finest whiskey is distilled! BTW, my family was from Monasterevin in County Kildare.
Aaahhhhh I've been waiting for you guys to do this since forever!!!!! Yay!!! I'm a nanny and I learned a ton of your songs to sing to my baby to put her to sleep. She really loves "Black is the color of my true love's hair" and "Wild mountain thyme"
I always loved my bonnie lies over the ocean. Hey can you make a recording and maybe share it? But if not, it would make a great keepsake for the kid for later.
