Actual problems in video games: Overbudgeted games, failing live services, lootboxes, unfinished patch-it-later games, DRM.

narratives being pushed is also a big general problem in gaming though. which ruins good strories. i dont care if theres micro transactions whatever as long as the story is good.

@@karnovrpg indie games is good for me cause the story is mainly the focus. so i guess mainstream games failing is good for me since they mostly focus on graphics. you want triple A super graphics games and have to deal with micro transaction live service nfts as a result.

Borderlands 2 and TPS has both diversity and social issues without shoving it down our throats, because that wasn't the focus.

The character dialogue and banter was not the worst part of Suicide Squad and the reason it failed. Not even close. It’s the only part of the game I have heard people say they enjoy. Trying to suggest otherwise for the sake of this video shows me that you’re not actually doing research and are just trying to cash in on the ragebait.

To be fair I don't think we can blame the horror show of the Suicide Squad game totally on SweetBaby. The development team should take a good 80% of the flak.

I don't think the issue is with Sweet Baby's work, strictly speaking, it's with developers who are so incompetent that they can't come up with good character concepts and stories themselves, so they get a consultant to do it for them - and if the consultant can get them some ESG money too by injecting progressive narratives (even when it doesn't make sense in the setting or story of the game), they choose companies like Sweet Baby.
The problem with Sweet Baby themselves is the stuff their staff has said online.

I personally learned os Sweet Baby last week, on Steam. I had zero issues with any of the games I played that they worked on.
But, on Steam, I saw review bombs of games like Kingdom Two Crowns being thumbs downed solely because SB worked on it. And then the typical diatribe of hot button word salad as to why these review bombs disliked not the game, but solely SB.
So is this video wholy ignoring the fact that this curator started a SB hate group? Because Alan Wake 2, and other games have a recent lower score on Steam, and the thumbs down reflect on the SB hate.
But it wasn’t a hate group. It was a just a list of the games that SB worked on that some Brazilian guy made on Steam. He just didn’t recommend the games to people because he didn’t like the studio. It was a list with a very small following before an employee from SB found it and blew it up by making a post to encourage people to report and try to get the list and the person who made it banned. It was the employee from SB who tried to harass someone, not the other way around. SB shot themselves in the foot because it really backfired on them.

And prior, I hadn't heard of SB. So when I did a Google search, most of what I saw painted the original guy as causing this. Which, IMHO, he had to know in the climate of the world, his list would spark off like this eventually.
But yes, SB's employee should have just left well the hell alone.

To me it just seems like anything not a white male gets labeled "woke" nowadays and it's stupid. I'm 41 and have been gaming all my life, I'm not gonna throw a temper tantrum if my character is a woman, or a person of color. If the game is fun that's all I care about.

I think thi is a fault of the people who are anti-white, like Black Girl Gamers or Sweet Baby inc. They make white people hate black characters by tokenizing them and by saying that white characters are bad, replacing them or disrespecting them.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa, you thought Spider-Man 2, Ragnorak, Alan Wake 2 and such weren’t done well? And you think Suicide Squad’s problems were rooted in diversity inclusion? What??? Am I taking crazy pills here? Miles Morales was the game that was with far more diversity inclusion (fittingly) running through it, Miles in part 2 is mostly a supporting character to Peter’s arc while his own arc of getting over revenge has nothing to do with his race, the only diversity thing he had going was a side quest collecting instruments and that’s about it, minor ones like his deaf girlfriend and the gay students come and go real fast, the game was far more about Peter, Kraven and the symbiote.
Gamergate might be the perfect example of the consequences of making a single thing your entire identity. Some gamers perceive any and all perceived changes or advances to their hobby not just a threat to their hobby, but practically to their very existence.
I've been gaming for over 35 years, and for a long time I used it as a coping mechanism for my Depression and to escape my abusive family. But after a while, I realized I was missing out on all that life had to offer. Eventually, I moved out, got married, and I'm the happiest I've been in decades.
Gaming is awesome, and it probably saved my life, but I can't stress enough how important it is for gamers to go outside and meet people in the flesh. I promise you you will NEVER be happy being perpetually online and paling around with misogynists and White Supremacists.

How do you know DHS Is explicitly paying TakeThis to fuel GamerGate2? There's a huge difference in a company (and others) receiving a grant to R&D counterterrorism in online gaming communities in 2022 and being paid to rabble-rouse this issue.
There’s been so many jumps to conclusions and in logic surrounding topics like this.
I'm a Liberal, but I do agree that there is a little too much "alteration" of game contents (such as in translating and localizing games from Japanese into English) to make the dialogue or story overtly socio-culturally inclusive & it didn't need to be.
But not everything is "being made woke". now what I mean by "altered to be more inclusive"; Example:
*when/if an anime style character in a JRPG has on a two piece bikini style outfit, it's really not necessary to alter the graphics of the character to cover up her thighs and mid-rif*, or if a character says in Japanese "woah that sweet girl is very cute!"
to "translate" or completely re-write that as "oh it's that nice girl!" is that really needed?

Now it's not really about "GuRL iN aNiMe aNd Gaem nAwT sExY aNyMoRe" as some would claim, it's about keeping the creative integrity of what the developers/artist created. What's next? putting clothes on the statue of David? Banning bikinis and lingerie in real life?

just because Marvel makes a movie or tv series about female super heroes based on a comic doesn't automatically mean it's "woke".

Games are meant to be fun yes, but it's up to the creators if they want to convey or express a certain socio-political or socio-culture subtext to what they created. It's not just a matter of including politics (after all games are art and art often SHOULD be political). Politics in games are actually great if they're tastefully done and/or are befitting of the game's experience rather than lazily tacked on. Rather, at least from where I sit, the issue stems from games being increasingly blatant in hitting their "quotas" in a patronizing manner to satisfy various groups (oh by the way Tracer from Overwatch is now gay, b/c why not? Even though such a thing is completely irrelevent in an online shooter very light on story/lore). I am bisexual btw and I find that sort of thing borderline insulting (unless of course it's a key thread to the gameplay/lore itself).
Another issue is many seem to increasingly be preachy, lecture, or "talk down" to their consumer base. This is more in the lore and developer publicity/social media aspects vs the game content *itself* but it's becoming more prominent.
Finally, many (like Blizzard again) seem to increasingly be leaning on the Wokeism and sociopolitical stuff as a cheap means of marketing vs focusing on the quality of the game's content itself. It comes across as lazy, desperate, and condescendingly pandering. These are the aspects I feel that are bugging people even if many won't/can't quite communicate it as such.

Looking at that list, I haven't played a single game that Sweet Baby Inc. has worked on, so I certainly can't comment on their quality. I have zero interest in the opinions of Musk or Walsh, though, so their involvement is inconsequential to me.
That all said, I do agree with you Boogie. Well written diversity in fun games is no bad thing at all. Personally, I love both the Life is Strange and Coffee Talk series, and the diverse cast forms a part of that enjoyment. I'm always happy to see people like me represented in media, but I do want it to be done well.
He would’ve said this regardless of what games were on the list, he’s not arguing in good faith, Life is Strange is more blatant than most of these examples.

These are the kinds of videos i like to watch on this channel.
GG 2.0, just like GG 1.0, is not about "diversity and inclusion", that's their main weapon.
GG is about social control and manipulation, it led to the androgynization of characters in games, removing trans representation from games by making everyone "equal" instead of giving them physical ideals to strive for.
tbh i think bullying and harassment although not a nice thing, shouldn't be actioned against by companies. it is up to the user to make the decision to block someone's message, not the platforms. in fact allowing platformed that power is what got us cancel culture where people were getting banned for no reason in the name of preventing hate speech, bully and harassment. the power should always lie with the individual not the collective or a top down organisation.
