Disagree with Parvez Hoodbhuoy...All the positives of intial pakistan years is the spill over of secular Indian civilization.....it takes time after partition to become the Pak what it's meant to be....and Indonesia is a worst example..cuz they accepted their culture along with organized religion ‼️. Pakistan saw abbu in Arabs‼️

In 20th century Pakistan's abbu was USA and Saudi Arabia, that's why they chosen capitalism and wahhabism.
In 21st century pakistan nominated China and Turkey for abbu's post, that's why you'll see rising affection of pakistanis towards mandrin and turkish culture.

Dr.Hoodbhuoy is just practicing “Taqiyyah” in the face of an unprecedented crisis for the idea of Pakistan. Even if the country of Pakistan ceases to exist, its idea will continue in our neighborhoods in poor Muslim ghettos of India, the UK, US except maybe China ( thanks to communist machine guns 😅)

The condensending tone of false hindu /sanatani superiority is visible blatantly in your comment you people are so high on the fumes of bringing back your fake glorious past that you even disagree with the few sane voices that are still try to make some noise in Pakistan,
Your fascist approach to the whole spectrum of subcontenental history is so subjective in nature that people like me who are suffering from the abject dogmatic thinking that is prevalent in Pakistan can only see the bigotry in your views you as much bigoted as the the people you despise
But on the other hand I'm also saddened to see that the character of vitriol accross the border is same in principle but with a caveat of civilizational / ancestral dogma that people like you chant nowadays
We have seen this monster mutated our society now you people are on the same road
One reassurance that i can get from it is that after all we are same people even our mistakes take the same trajectory.

@@Mba570 Claiming every criticism as a Hindu "fascist approach", branding it as subjective in nature won't make any material change in Pakistan's fortune. Your suffering from dogmatic thinking is the result of Pakistani society's inability to refine the nation's thought process through education, force meaningful change through free and fair elections, and lack of large-scale application of technology to alleviate the misery of the poorest of the poor in Pakistan. Believe it or not, these qualities are ingrained in the "Sanatani" thought that you and your ancestors hated. Education, the multiplicity of religious books ( Vedas, Principal Upanishads, Agamas, Bhagavad Gita ), debate, and respect for the democratic process at the village level ( village panchayats ) have been building blocks of Indian society long before Islam came to the sub-continent. Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism were founded and flourished in the sub-continent and were born out of civilized debate and reasoning against ritualistic practices that started hurting the common man. It also led to reforms in Hinduism as well. None of this needed a sword or bloodshed and was accepted in the mainstream. If anyone believes this history, then there will never ever be any monstrous mutation in Indian society as we see in Pakistan.

A very basic requirement for any “modern” progressive society is the freedom and ability to argue, put forth questions, agree or disagree “endlessly” .. sometimes for weeks and months ..about “anything” and “everything” including GOD/Allah/Ishwar. In indian civilization this was referred to as “shashtrarth” i.e duel of arguments between opposing point of views usually ending in one party winning the argument. Key aspect is there is no blood letting or slitting of throats involved. None of the religious philosphies which originated in middle east has this absolute freedom of refusal and respect for human life no matter who wins the argument.

Dr. Parvez talks of his school and a Jew there. In the 50s and 60s my classmates included at least 2 Jews, a Hindu, a Budhist, Christians- Catholics and Protestants, Muslims- Sunnis and Shias. We were classmates, we were friends, there was tolerance everywhere. I consider myself a Muslim, i have followed the Five Pillars of Islam. The beauty of Islam is there is no compulsion in religion, but sadly, religion was used by us as a political tool over the years.
I don't think it was a good choice to have Dr. Venkat Iyer as the main guest because apart from taking 17 minutes at the beginning and during Q&A on how The Round Table operates, by his own admission, he was not qualified to give any opinion. It is commendable that the Round Table is over 100 years old. Many thanks.

It seems the 50s and 60s had some Indian-ness left in Pakistani society. Now it's pure unfiltered Arabic culture with everyone trying to prove whose brand of Islam is greener than the rest. Iyer is too smart to give his opinion in such an environment. He might be waiting eagerly for his flight back to London. 😀 No one would want to face the same consequences faced by that Sri Lankan factory manager who was lynched by the mob.

They do actually. It's you who doesn't understand Pakistan. It's a complex society, primordial bonds of kinship superceding allegiance to the state, seminal tribal bonds, huge adherence to Islam (that's why an inclination towards Arabs because Islam's language is Arabic), I will say it again, it's pretty easy to speculate from the outside, but things are very complex within the social contract of the society. the narrative presented here on these platforms belongs to a minority (yet very vocal because of their access to the English language and digital communication), but the narrative and voice of the mainstream public is not heard of mainly, because those people are too focused on making ends meet on a daily basis.
I would like to recommend you a book, Pakistan, A Hard Country by Anatol Lieven who tries to explain these complexities in a very succint way. Pakistanis do not believe in Nationalism the way you do. Pakistanis do not believe in Democracy the way you do including myself. There are sound reasons for that. Some reasons may be preposterously anachronistic, but majority of reasons are pretty lucid. Mainstream people think that way and given the chance will vote that way too. Democracy, right ???!!! :D

In USA merit rules not religion . Four Indian Muslims are billionaires in India not in USA which your beloved Pakistan failed to produce despite being an Islamic nation made for Muslims 😏 Bangladeshi Muslims are miles ahead of Indian Muslims ? Really ? ??? Which Bangladeshi actor is so rich and famous than SRK , Aamir or Salman . Which Bangladeshi singer is more famous and loved than Muhammad Rafi? Sania Mirza is a well known tennis player married to Shoaib Malik. AR Rahman has won Grammy and Oscar. APJ Abdul Kalam was President of India.
Plus see the achievements of other minorities in India . The Zoraostrians aren't even more than 2 lakh population but see how many billionaires they have in India . The famous TATA company is the backbone of Indian economy . Why Parsi Zoraostrians fled Iran ? Go read history . Sikh , Jain , Christians , Buddhist achievement and conditions are much better than Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Plus if you think Bangladeshi Muslims are miles ahead of Indian Muslims then give credit to India too . We helped them in getting liberated . At least their economic conditions is now better than Pakistan. In fact better than India too . Obviously Hindu numbers will be more in any field as we are in majority but our constitution has not neglected other minorities. We all have been given equal and fair chance by the constitution . In Bangladesh they have state religion which is Islam and in Pakistan non-Muslims can't be a PM . Then even removed Atif Mian from Imran Khan cabinet as economic advisor just because he was an Ahmadi. Ahmadi aren't considered Muslims in Pakistan . How shamelessly you guys are whining about Indian Muslim conditions when you are ignoring your own in your country 😏

Plus ever thought why Indians and Chinese are more successful in USA than the Latin Americans ? Because here we focus on science and mathematics. The same applies to Muslims of this region or worldwide. Many focus on other fields but not in science and technology that much . I have seen many Muslims getting success in Football or other sports in west but not a single Hindu . May be because in our culture we focus mostly on education . May be that's the reason why most are successful in USA or west when it comes to science , business or politics .

Mr.Iyer, where are your manners? He is Dr. Pervez and not just Pervez. At least learn to address him properly. Dr. Pervez is an incredibly decent and well educated man.. From an Indian based in Oz.
