    This scene made me cry because she made you feel the desperation in trying to get him to understand yet her still trying to stay strong. It must've been frustrating knowing that the only person who can help you has no idea the world exists and how scary it would've been if he never responded to the truth.

    I saw in an interview, that Lenny, the director, told Brie in this particular scene to try and explain her story to him carefully, and calmly but not to scare him. He privately told Jacob to interrupt Brie and to question what she says. She didn't know he would do that which is why she becomes frustrated! It's like playing tug of war.

    there’s something in the book that wasn’t explained in the movie, and i think it should have:
    as Old Nick had lost his job about six months ago, he was running out of money. Joy then has to explain to Jack, once he understands that there’s a world outside Room, that once Old Nick can’t afford basic things, his house will be taken by the bank. Old Nick wouldn’t let the bank find Joy and Jack because he’d be in bigger trouble, so Joy is pretty sure he’ll kill them before that. That’s why Joy was in such a hurry to get out. She could have explained when he was six, she might have considered he’d understand better. And Jack is scared, he’d rather do this later, but that can’t happen because it’s now or never.

    When you see this scene you knew that Brie would get an Oscar. I felt so much anger at the kid, anger at the guy who abducted her and so much anger for the world. This story emulated a story that actually happened in California. My dad worked 2 blocks away from a girl who was abducted and held prisoner in a shed for over 10 years. This stuff happens... and there is evil out there. If Brie doesn't get this Oscar there is something wrong.

    this scene is just perfect. you can feel Joy’s desperation because her only company, the only person who can actually help, can’t understand what she’s saying.
    and it’s logical that Jack doesn’t understand because he’s never been outside, he’s never seen the world and he’s been told that what he sees on TV isn’t real or it’s other planets. and he’s just a kid, his imagination can make everything make some sense; like Old Nick being half real or the door leading to outer space. and Joy can’t yet figure out a way to make him realise what’s going on and you can see her trying so hard. it’s one of the best scenes in the whole movie.

    Something I realized is that Room also serves as a metaphor for childhood, when Jack was in Room life was so simple and straightforward, for him all he knew was playing and having fun, and when they finally got out and into the real world he finds out there’s so much more complexities in life, some good but also some bad, when you hear Jack say “I wanna go back to Room” it’s basically like him saying “I want my childhood naïveté back” this whole movie essentially shows what it’s like to grow up, you’re able to experience all these new incredible things but at the cost of the simpler life you used to have

    Ok brie larson is incredible as always, but why is nobody talking about the KIDS acting skill...! It's so amazing how he portrays this complex moment. You feel for him so bad, but you also feel annoyed by him. he's just a little kid after all. you want him to understand what he's being told so desperately but you also wish he didn't have to hear it at all. His timing and tone fuels that atmosphere so well, the frustration a small child would feel being told an impossible truth, one they want to deny, and as one might imagine, having a million questions to ask, vs. her trying to get relief from her confession, shes tried so hard SO long for escape, all the years of being forced into this lie coming to a head, and he doesnt even want the truth. His reaction is almost reminiscent of movie scenes where a child finds out a beloved family member dies. . . he's feeling /loss/ for what he thought his life was, and he's in denial, which are very mature emotions, but damn he's still just a little kid and so so confused. and their back and forth is so realistic, some real mom/son chemistry behind it.

This scene, and also the scene at the end where they go back to Room really get me. There are also some amazingly understated moments of great acting, like when Ma and Jack are in the police car and he wants to go to bed, in room, and the look on her face conveys that she completely gets why he wants that, and is kind of alone in her relief about the escape. Joan ALlen's face when Jack tells her how he slept in Wardrobe when Old Nick came is also amazing.

    This performance by Brie Larson is nothing short of a masterclass, the depth, the quality, the range and the emotions she brings in just one singluar performance is spectacular, this film literally made me a better person, the kind is great as well

    Touchable movie , they both make me cry from the heart, the movie full with others adorable scenes.
    When she said to her mom: sorry for not being nice any more.
    And when she said to him: i am not good enough mom but he simply said: but you my mom, then she said: I am with touchable heart . and when she thought to make Jack pretend as dead and he said: nooo . and when they front of mirror . thank you Brie and Jack for that movie, great job, god bless you.

    This reminds me of a part in the little mermaid by hans christian anderson where the mermaid's grandmother doesnt know how to explain birds so she just called them fishes. And the little mermaid is totally mind blown by how flowers have scent because the ones in the ocean dont have scent at all.

    • @charne
      @charne 8 лет назад +8

      We must not have read the same book, there's definitely the line "I want a different story !" in the book. Plus, just as in the film, he's definitely angry at his ma for telling him that, as he thinks she's tricking him. The thing is that in the book, Jack is telling the whole story, so maybe you pictured the scene differently. Jacob Tremblay is really amazing in this scene!

    • @StaciaMars
      @StaciaMars 8 лет назад +2

      +Ant1 yeah, I agree. It's just with a book, you teally don't feel that much emotion in the words, yet with the movie, the viewer can do so through Jack's attitude.

    I found this scene very powerful and desterbing at the same time, but I love how the writer of the book explained how the child may have seen the world knowing that this is all he knew. Many of you reading my comment may not know 'Room' the book is enpired by a true story, Elizabeth frizel was kept hostage by her father for 24 years and had 7 children, felix was the youngest and he was 5.

    This scene seemed like it sounded like Brie Larson's character and her son sounds like Jaycee Dugard: It really hits home because she was kidnapped, held in a shed and raped and had two daughters. I always wonder if Brie Larson's character went through this.
