Perfect for BOK/LBE/HPAC: SOG Field knife

  • We'll start by talking about some of my fave SOG fixed blade knives. One of them is the SOG Field Pup...it's long gone. This was a favorite of mine both to gift to TNPrs and integrate into my own LBE systems. The Field Pup, both I and II, was light, affordable, had a decent sheath, good steel, and a great handle. I'm happy to say its lines live on in the SOG Field knife and some improvements have been made. We'll look at those and consider some fun competitive options too. In the end this little SOG is highly rec'd for its low price and high capabilities.

Hey you're back! You are one of the first guys that got me into my Knife addiction years ago, so thanks lol, I miss alot of the classic blades from Sog and Cold Steel. Sog needs a Pillar XL or at least a Large. They need to bring back the Desert Dagger 🗡
Cold Steel needs to bring back the Peacekeeper dagger and have more midrange steel options in everything. Anyway, good to see a video from you. Oh yeah and don't you think Gerber needs to give the Mark II a long overdue upgrade??. Perhaps a full or through Tang and better handle material.

This is a great field knife that has served me well on various outings, and I have gifted to others as also. And I do recall that SRK review from many years ago. I wanna say it was someone by the name of Diaz that sent it to the Project for review.

Solid review, thanks. I own one, and I quite like it. I've taken it through its paces in quite extreme bushcraft and survival scenarios, such as processing game, chopping kindling with a mallet, and using it on spark rods, and it hasn't disappointed me. Personally, I appreciate the grip, as it fits comfortably in my hand. I'm 6ft tall, so maybe I have small hands, but I don't feel the grip should be any longer. I do agree that the cord-cutting groove is pointless and almost impossible to use. Anyway, thanks for the review, really good!

Love SOG, many years now thanks to TNP. Yeah, still kicking myself for not picking up the NW Ranger when it was on the shelves. I remember having one in my hand several times but never made it to check out. GOOD LUCK FINDING ONE NOW FOR LESS THAN YOUR FIRST BORN! Much like the Benchmade LFK, these seem to have become as rare and coveted as Willey's Golden Ticket, commanding a sold out TNP exclusive premium on the resale market. I keep looking, and one day I'll put one in the collection.

The 7Cr17 on this is more corrosion resistant than 8CR. That 17 number means higher chromium. This is the same steel Spyderco uses in their budget kitchen knives.

there is no perfect knife so having two or three to cover what you may need is good . I have many and only one all around , the Benchmade
auto open . My big knife is the Kershaw 18" camp knife . My dress knife is a Gerber flat fold tanto blade and my daily carry is the small
Kershaw spring loaded . But by far the best knife I have is the one I made from a truck spring , fixed blade elk horn and aluminum and brass
guard and pommel 5" blade full tang . 3 level heat treat . I have sharpened it 3 times since 1978 and only a light touch up then and yes I use it to
clean animals deer squirrel . But never as a axe it's a knife . Great review you have a blessed one .

I know, right? I’ve never noticed this knife channel before, so I thought I’d try it… bad idea! Nobody who is anybody is even interested in SOG. I think it was in the late 1990’s that I last bought one. Their quality is no better than Gerber, Schrade, and MTech. This poor guy’s channel will never grow if this is the quality he promotes. I feel sorry for the guy.
He should at very least promote brands like ESEE and Tops. Then move up the ladder.

S.O.G. = Seriously Overpriced Garbage🤣 Seriously, in today's knife market there's a million different options and a lot of less inexpensive knife brands that still offer you quality products. That being said, why would you choose a SOG knife🤔
