Weird I know but that's how I am too. 3h Matt I do very similar with a lot of my stuff but still need another round of boxes to finish organizing. I like the idea of buy a ton of bins to start and return some if you don’t need them. For mags and similar I also drop a dessecant in the bag to prevent rust. You’re like the tactical Marie Kondo. "
LTC Nutnfancy: This video was right on time for me! I was JUST talking about those heavy mil plastic Ziploc baggies with my wife! I thought this was going to be a video about making food and water storage a priority, which it is, but as an adult with legit ADHD, organization has been a HUGE struggle for me! I just wish I had the money to devote to that much storage equipment (most expensive are good shelves!). I suppose this will have to be done in smaller increments due to financial restraints. We're also struggling with my oldest daughter who also has ADHD, but my mother has been working with her. If it were up to me, it would be a case of the blind leading the blind. My youngest daughter, in stark contrast, is VERY tidy and organized! Thanks for all the great tips! Going to share this with the wife to get her onboard as well!
Hey Nutn… Can you do a 46 and a half minute video on “Kitchen Freezer POU”? No joke. Most of us only have one freezer… How do we maximize its potential for when times get tough, but still maintain functionality for daily/normal use?
You can tell the difference in a good service tech just by seeing how they keep their vans. A good service tech has a squared away van where you can easily find tools and materials. Generally, people who are squared away and organized are typically more successful.
I can speak with my entire life's experience on this. And the state of a tech's van, does not indicate his experience or his competency. A lot of factors go into it. Does the company pay for time to clean/organize it, or does he have time to clean/organize it?
@@celicablues 100%. As a service electrician, it's very difficult to keep our vans clean and orderly when we have to scramble to take care of all the work orders.
@@Lysander_Spooner Well said. Time is the main issue. As a tech, being organized is very helpful and efficient but it isn't easy to find time to clean often. Investing in the Milwaukee packout system has helped tremendously with keeping tools and smalls parts organized though.
@@celicablues I can't say if its related to competency but I've had messy vans. I've finally come to terms with never being allotted time to clean up. So now a large part of the planning is on where and when the garbage goes in. If you do it right you can keep a pretty put together van with little time invested. There is a way!
I've found that cat litter tubs work well. They have to be strong enough to contain thirty-five pounds of sand, and they come with carry handles. And I have to buy them periodically anyway.
I talked my Dad into "decorating" a pair of his old skivvies, with brown shoe polish, and put them in his hamper with a go to piece. If I were a thief, I'd possibly pass on searching them.
I used to do this once a month just because I like looking at my stuff, and I love organizing. Now I keep everything that falls into a category in one place, and then pull from what I want to use. Praise God for these blessings
Quite frankly, I needed this. I'm a massive procrastinator and have kept putting this off and the problem has gotten worse, which makes me not want to do it even more. The idea of just making piles in a room will definitely make this go faster. I'm going to go get supplies tomorrow, then come Wednesday when I'm home alone I'm going to start tearing through everything. I need to make it a more organized mess before I can truly organize everything.
Great video. Nothing passes me off more than not being able to find something when I need it. I have been using this method to organize things my whole life. I agree with your statement on disorganization weighing on you mentally.
It amazes me this channel has been around this long. Especially in the RUclips environment. I literally saw a Gen Z RUclipsr reference it saying he used to watch it. As a child.
Still young, but I don't want to leave a burden for my family when I pass. Probably about 3 months into a similar system for the house and yes, I expect it to take years to get it where I want to be at.
Growing up in rural Colorado, a time we could walk out our back door and go hunting, all my friends had few items. We hunted and fished all the time. We also gardened adding to food on the table. I had a wards single shot shotgun, a Marlin 22, and a Buck knife. FF 60 years and my “stuff” has significantly grown.
As a fellow gear head, who has been amassing STUFF because of YOU since waaaayyyy back, I have had to already go to the bins. Yet I learned so much tonight from the TNP master! I have always maintained the Gear Axiom: That there are three kinds of gear in total. Gear to use, gear to store and transport your gear, and gear that fixes your gear. That's all of it! You have highlighted one of the main types. Thanks for the organizational tips Nutin.
Great video!! I can really identify with the entire thing - from buying a bunch of stuff because nutin recommends to storing things in bins. Thanks and keep up the great vids!
I'm already doing this. Have it all divided into sections of the house too. Another tip - for your Bug Out Kits, advice I got from a fire chief is to create a list of everything you need to bug out, based upon HOW LONG you have to bug out. It's very common that you might have pre-evacuation notices hour or days in advance. Other times you might have just 3 minutes. Other times you might have 15 minutes. You can pack A LOT more on your truck in those additional 12 minutes, so have a plan - group those things together if you can. As far as clear plastic bags - I don't buy them, I just save them. They add up when you're ordering gun parts, most come in a quality plastic bag. The other container to keep an eye out for is AMMO CANS. Occasionally you'll find some store doing a clearance on larger caliber (like 30mm, 80mm mortar) cans. The .50 cal cans are great too, but small. Use plastic ones for areas that are temperature controlled, use metal ones for areas like your basement, outdoors, etc. Large ammo cans are amazing. Last tip, if you live in a large city, go to a USED office furniture supplier. They often have commercial grade lockers, storage cabinets, shelves, etc. The commercial grade stuff is often bomb proof, and will outlast your lifetime. The used furniture suppliers are willing to barter and keep an eye for specialty stuff - so let them know "I'm looking for 10 feet of locking cabinets." I have some industrial racks that will last 500 years, 15 feet long, 8 feet high, 18 inches wide, it's all thick steel construction, totally adjustable, found on craiglist for $200.
I've been using these for years and highly recommend them. I do maintenance on a few old rent houses so I have lots of odd fasteners, plumbing fittings, etc. If I get a phone call with a leak I can grab my box of appropriately sized fittings off the shelf and go fix it. I recently picked up a bunch of 12x18x3 steel boxes for my truck. They're basically little metal brief cases. I'm working on building a mounting rack for them to replace my extended cab back seat, but my plan is to have it where I can just grab my little case of tools for whichever thing I'm fixing. Before that I just had tool bags full of junk loose everywhere
Just focus on one area at a time; don't overwhelm yourself and be brutal about throwing stuff out or selling. it. Each item should have a distinct reason for being kept.
6:12 Your wife's dad's room is not that bad, it looks pretty organized to me (this was my first thought, haha). That being said, I think I have a good mag organization system. Instead of the baggies, I bought 99c walmart plastic pencil boxes. Each container is for one type of mag, which works for me bc I like to have at least 100 rounds of mags for each firearm. When I go to the range, I'll select the firearm and then grab the corresponding pencil box. I even load the mags before going to the range so I don't have to waste time at the range, and these pencil boxes are sturdy enough to hold loaded mags (though if you're not careful, they will open). I bought every color of the pencil boxes so that I could intuitively color code by caliber. Black is for 9mm, Blue (police) is for 40sw, Green (army) is for 45acp, Red (hot) is for 357sig and 357mag, Pink (weak) is for 380acp, and Orange (toy) is for 22lr. These pencil boxes are labeled with the same labelmaker, and I store these pencil boxes into separate bins by caliber.
I bought a tabletop rolling tool chest about a year ago to use as a “tv stand”, to lay out knives, lights & magazines/ammo. The best organizational thing I’ve ever done.
thanks for a lot nutn, wife’s on board with all of it. she’s not totally into the lifestyle, but she sleeps well at night. space has definitely increased with vertical storage
I love your channel because you do stuff that makes me laugh and also makes me happy, like this… you salute the mic and keep on going like nothing happened… lol awesome.
I've already incorporated most of these suggestions in my own struggle with organization. On the plus side, after building floor to ceiling shelves from wall to wall on one side of the garage for storing bins I was able to free up enough room to build a work bench for reloading and other projects. It was a great feeling to finally have a permanent place to mount up the press and equipment.
As someone in the process who of moving into a new home, getting organized has become like a second job and source of anxiety for me! this was a great help!
I thank you for the apology 😂 and the video. One of the downsides to having hobbies, being prepared, and a repairer of things is what my house / shop is always a chaotic mess and I appreciate any help.
I use Gaffer's tape for labeling if I don't use an actual label. Gaffer's tape (is similar to duct tape, but...) doesn't leave residue when removed and it has a cloth type finish so the marker doesn't rub off over time.
Thank you! I’ve been on this process, got the room cleaned, shelving system, but the clear bins is the key that I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger on and invest in. Label maker ready to go. Thank you for validating my progress and tipping us off on the fine details.
Very well put Nutn. I already had the clear bags and different sized bins. I think your real-world strength test is very important for those bins. I will have to do that going forward.
“Organization weighs on your mind.” Man you got that right. I recently rented a storage unit in order to better organize everything one needs to store gear for all the possible scenarios. More emergency preparedness equipment the better. Organizing it is part of the fun.
I'm a big advocate of milk crates for stuff that's either in a temperature controlled environment or stuff that's "durable" and doesnt care about the temp or humidity. I get em from Menards because they often go on sale. They suck for tiny things or huge things, but for organizing tackle boxes, scopes, silencers, "range kits" etc they're awesome. They're particularly awesome because they stack and have built in handles.
Moved into a rental house and went from a closet to a spare room for storage! Did a similar method to this and it’s frickin awesome. I don’t have everything in closed top bins but baskets so it’s easier accessible. Great vid as always
I am glad about the fact that I am using the same system, I might be doing something right, I will think about the zip lock tactic, my bins are the deep ones. Good video man, cheers.
The shallow hefty bins are GOAT IMO. Deep enough for most common items, tough enough to survive ordinary use and you can't bury things so deep you can't find them
wife and I have a small house, 780 square feet above ground with a full basement. We have major preps stored in the house. And musical instruments and art supplies. And room for visitors to sleep. Shelves man, shelves. And things hanging from floor joists and bins stacked 6 feet tall and so on. But it is all neat, organized and easily found. Oh, there's no kids in the house.
Just started Nutn’ sold my business after 27 years and now my home “office” junk room is my “man room” for all my crap. I just started to try reloading ammo, and need to be very organized. You hit it all on the head.
Organized work space is a productive work space. Your 100% correct. Organization - a process in constant motion when someone makes a good inspirational video like this one and makes it fun to get things done. Thanks!!!Lt.Col.
Oh Yeah, this hits good... My Dad's whole house looked about the same as your father in laws office. When he passed me and the wife spend weeks sorting things to make sure we don't accidentally throw away important stuff. Weeks. It cost me thousands in disposal fees. I want to say probably close to 6k just for container after container (yes, container) of stuff to dispose of. It's wild. Definitely tainted the memory of my dad after sorting through literal garbage for weeks. I'm still mad as hell thinking about it. I've always been organized. Comes somewhat naturally to me. Growing up there is probably the reason why.
In my experience, the clear bins are the worst for cracking. It's just the formulation of the plastic I think. The old style Rubbermaid bins were the most indestructible but the shape is horrible for anything but clothes. I have a mixture... large black bins with yellow lids from Costco (Stick with one manufacturer because they are different sizes). Larger clear file storage bins with flip top lids. Smaller clear bins for smaller stuff. I've had the worst luck with Sterlite brand. Even if the bin material is okay, the lids tend to crack.
As someone with ADHD, I'v had a system of bins on a giant shelf in my apt for years, its the only way I can survive (And keep gf happy). Regardless, thank you for the vid, this was really helpful.
This video has motivated me. To drop a little coin on some shelving and bins. I have quite a lot of “stuff” in my office. This advisory video will help me greatly.
I remember I bought a Old Model Ruger Blackhawk in 357 it came with aftermarket grips and I had original set of factory black rubber grips for it at home and I could not find them and it took me over a year to finally find them and they look good on the gun but, that caused me to start organizing all my random gun parts.
I went with smaller bins for my mags and have one bin for each gun make/model/caliber... it just makes it easy... yeah I have a lot of pistol mag bins but they are smaller and easier to stack....
Manufacturers’ boxes: “throw them away”. Just started doing this and it is a total game changer. I Chuck the cases now too. You’re right though, hurts my soul a little bit every time.
My organization method is a lockable tool storage thing (don't remember what they're called) with wheels. Each cabinet is labeled by what the items are such as "lighting", "knives", "holsters", etc. And in each cabinet they are again separated by manufacturer, model, etc. Not perfect but I always know where to find my things and they are relatively safe with it being lockable and made of metal.
So I paused this about half way through cuz I have a free day and was inspired to finally empty/reassess/restock my 2 BOBs and overflow bag (duffel that can be truck bag and/or throw away when emprtied of food etc).... Now couple hours later after walking dog I'm finishing your vid lol Even upgraded IFAK and tools on primary BOB
👍👍👍👍👍 I’ve been organized so much to the point I drive people crazy, yes I am O C D. but just like you said I sleep at night and I can find anything I personally own. I operated out of a service truck and everything I needed had a place really makes you professional to your customers. Which I hope you are.
Alittle more high tech, but we just did this with our extra fire gear at the station. But instead of labels we got QR code stickers. Scan the code and you can see what is in the bin with pictures. So if we want a certain type of turnout coat or a specific radio model, we can find it without opening or unstacking any bins
I've moved into my 3rd house in 5 years .... holy sh!t the first move was an eye opener how much needless stuff I owned. My gear is now pretty organized in large Home Depot tubs in my garage. I also bought a larger gun safe which was worth every single Penny.
For adding color-coded labels to clear storage bins I use a Brother P-Touch Label maker with 1" (24mm) white label tape. First, I put down a strip of colored Tape (colored Duct Tape or, more preferably, 2" 3M 471 Vinyl Tape) and then I lay my P-Touch label centered over the top to create a nice, clean color-coded border around my bin labels. PRO TIP: use a cotton ball soaked with Isopropyl alcohol to clean and degrease the surface. Your tape will adhere much better.
LOL! The Bin System along with some hard decisions on what to part with got us out of having to spend $1400 a year on a storage. Now when the wife wants to decorate for a particular season all we have to do is step out into the garage.
Unfortunately right now almost everything is in storage. Great ideas for when I can get out of this roommate situation and into a house. Really appreciate it Nutn!

A well-intended organization system drifted off target over the years. You are correct, disorganization is a thief of one's energy. I am implementing a new system as items are loaded into truck. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication. 6h The Nutnfancy Project Hello David! Indeed it does sap our energy. All your ongoing organizational efforts will have reward of peace and an easier life. Thanks dude. 1 3h Ted Jahne The issue isn’t that I have too much shit and forget where it is. The issue is that my wife likes to move my shit around and then forgets where she puts it so it is then lost in the abyss forever. Probably somewhere near where all the socks from your dryer go. 1 6h Pat McGroin San diego on board. Im so organized i fell asleep to the sound of your antics. Always fun content. Game 4, Go Padres. 1 6h The Nutnfancy Project Ha ha...hello to San Diego! Glad you're organized, well done ;-) 1 3h Load reply Brievet This is very helpful. I have a bin system in-place but a labeler will take it to the next level. Parts-bins, like the battery bin, will also be a level-up. Under the bed portion was funny! Haha 1 5h The Nutnfancy Project Hello Brievet! Thanks for your support here, so grateful to all. Glad you liked that humor; I was laughing pretty good in post production too. 3h Murphy Had to get organized years ago when I started buying shit you reviewed. Mostly Rubbermaid bins and Xerox printer paper boxes. Everything labeled. Ammo all in ammo cans. Tool bags with multi pockets make good storage/organizers also. Semper Fi. 1 5h The Nutnfancy Project Well done Murphy! Sounds like a great system. A benefit of the plastic bins is they're waterproof and will withstand floods and will even float...the people in Tampa can attest. 3h Clint Allison Dude, early this summer, I found an entire SUITCASE full of scopes in my basement. 🙄🙄🙄 While finding a butt load of scopes is awesome.... I'm still a moron 🤣🤣🤣 5h The Nutnfancy Project LOL, HS a full suitcase. That's like pirate treasure. 3h Moe Mansour Outstanding video! I can't focus on nutn' when things are disorderly. Pun intended. Everything has to have a place. I've actually always thought of it as a weakness since it affects my productivity. Even data on hard drives needs to be organized. I find it distracts me all day. 4h The Nutnfancy Project Yep me too. The more organized and cleaned up I am the more productive I am.
Thank you Nutnfancy!
Raise your camera ISO = no more sunglasses
Hey Nutn…
Can you do a 46 and a half minute video on “Kitchen Freezer POU”?
No joke.
Most of us only have one freezer…
How do we maximize its potential for when times get tough, but still maintain functionality for daily/normal use?
Someone is trying to be you saying I won something
I love that you stick to long format videos. Still the best gear review channel out there.
The man who provided the problem provides the solution.
As a teacher I can totally agree with the importance of organization. I try to teach my students how to keep their workspace clean and organized.
You can tell the difference in a good service tech just by seeing how they keep their vans. A good service tech has a squared away van where you can easily find tools and materials. Generally, people who are squared away and organized are typically more successful.
Man I would have liked to mention that in the video (van service tech) and totally makes sense.
Literally had my shopping cart at Lowes today filled with clear bins and came home and happened to watch this. Great system/advice, timely published!
I've found that cat litter tubs work well. They have to be strong enough to contain thirty-five pounds of sand, and they come with carry handles. And I have to buy them periodically anyway.
Good idea Greg!
I talked my Dad into "decorating" a pair of his old skivvies, with brown shoe polish, and put them in his hamper with a go to piece. If I were a thief, I'd possibly pass on searching them.
Plano containers are the best!!!
I used to do this once a month just because I like looking at my stuff, and I love organizing. Now I keep everything that falls into a category in one place, and then pull from what I want to use.
Praise God for these blessings
Stackable fishing tackle boxes for small parts are a must! Throw in a label printer and you're set 👍
Me too
Get a timer and set it to 30 min, it makes it a game, see how much you can do in half an hour. Then do it again
In college we used to buy polymer bed frame risers (inexpensive) to provide another 5”-6” under my bed and allowed for bin storage.
yup, tactical doodle does that too. I should have mentioned that.
Great video. Nothing passes me off more than not being able to find something when I need it. I have been using this method to organize things my whole life. I agree with your statement on disorganization weighing on you mentally.
GOD I NEEDED THIS VIDEO!!!!!! Just moved from California to Florida TODAY!!!! Truck came Today. Timely
It amazes me this channel has been around this long. Especially in the RUclips environment. I literally saw a Gen Z RUclipsr reference it saying he used to watch it. As a child.
@Doom If you have an hour and a half to listen to him ramble. Yeah, a lot of people LIKE that. But not everyone has the patience.
@Doom I'm not one of those people that's super impatient with Nutnfancy. But I know plenty who are. It's a matter of taste and time available.
Still young, but I don't want to leave a burden for my family when I pass. Probably about 3 months into a similar system for the house and yes, I expect it to take years to get it where I want to be at.
As always you are becoming a legend, always unbiased and very knowledgeable, you make a lot of sense and the quality of your info is priceless.
Watched this a couple years ago for no real reason. Now in re-watching out of nessisity. Good progress!
Been a long time since I’ve watched a Nutn video, this is an another great original Nutnfancy video to renter the TnP nation.
Thanks for the video. It reminded me to reorganize some of my stuff around the house
You are welcome!
I been watching you since I was a kid you are one of the people that got me into firearms and gear around 2007 I started watching
I had the perfect answer to my ex when asked me about you.
“He’s been here longer than you have and will continue to be after you’ve been removed.”
Worse thing I ever did is buy a house with a barn. The amount of crap that I can throw out in the barn is insane.
Thank you Timothy and you are most welcome!
This topic has been weighing on me for a while now. And just like that I am motivated to get my shit sorted.
I’ve been employing these same techniques for the past few years. I’ve never regretted being organized.
Love it. Organization is key. It's straightforward wisdom. "Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds;" Prov 27:23
I bought a tabletop rolling tool chest about a year ago to use as a “tv stand”, to lay out knives, lights & magazines/ammo. The best organizational thing I’ve ever done.
The vid I’ve waited 10+ years for. I’ve been watching Nutns organization for years. I bought a label maker just because of him. 😅
thanks for a lot nutn, wife’s on board with all of it. she’s not totally into the lifestyle, but she sleeps well at night. space has definitely increased with vertical storage
I love your channel because you do stuff that makes me laugh and also makes me happy, like this… you salute the mic and keep on going like nothing happened… lol awesome.
Yep I'm just a goof with a camera. But I like to keep it real, honest, and FUN! Thanks for the comment bro
The shelving units that go above the garage door is a must.
This is 100% true!! 😂 I have thousands of dollars of crap and gear because of you!!! Lol
True that !!
None dare call it hoarding.
We needed this so badly. Thank you!
As someone in the process who of moving into a new home, getting organized has become like a second job and source of anxiety for me! this was a great help!
Clutter absolutely stresses me out subconsciously, the bits and things poking into my peripheral vision tax my energy. Great topic to cover!
I thank you for the apology 😂 and the video. One of the downsides to having hobbies, being prepared, and a repairer of things is what my house / shop is always a chaotic mess and I appreciate any help.
You are welcome is in order. Thanks for all the grreat reviews
At first thought the title sounded boring but turned out very informative. A couple ideas I never thought of.
I'm getting "clean your room" vibes and I'm liking it.
Mate , its like you some how tapped into my head 😯..
Everything you said is absolutely spot on. Love ya Nutn ..
Great video. Most of my stuff is in my gun closet in my basement. This is a very helpful video that I will definitely implement.
So glad to help, thanks Atlas
I needed this in 2008 bro... I need it even more now thank you
Quality over quantity...for starters.
Deep enough for most common items, tough enough to survive ordinary use and you can't bury things so deep you can't find them
This helps out a lot . Was just thinking this as I am prepping to move. This just filled in the blanks on a possible how to.
Salute
wife and I have a small house, 780 square feet above ground with a full basement.
Sounds like you ARE organized. With that limited space you've figured out its importance. In my tiny Astro van I have to do the same!
@Lt Col Nutnfancy thank you so much for this organization pep talk. I really needed it.
When Nut is wearing sun glasses and gloves in his bunker you know he’s going full NUT! Lol
Possibly the most helpful video nutn has ever produced.
Just started Nutn’ sold my business after 27 years and now my home “office” junk room is my “man room” for all my crap. I just started to try reloading ammo, and need to be very organized. You hit it all on the head.
The same peace we seek to achieve by in our journey of preparation and prudence applies to our daily lives. Organization helps you find peace.
Perfect timing I am doing this as this comes out
In my experience, the clear bins are the worst for cracking.
Who else is picturing Nutn sneaking around Home Depot in sparkling white New Balance sneakers destroying bins?
Sorry to hear about your brother. Glad you got some positive carpe diem lesson out of the tragedy.
Clear is good to see you stuff. Costco Black and yellow=far superior! YW
This video has motivated me. To drop a little coin on some shelving and bins. I have quite a lot of “stuff” in my office. This advisory video will help me greatly.
I love how this video starts against the back drop of what my wife would call a mess 😝🤣
Just the motivator I needed to get cracking on organizing my garage and reloading/gunroom.
Was thinking about "Suck Less" the other day. Damn TNP is old, and so am I now.
So I paused this about half way through cuz I have a free day and was inspired to finally empty/reassess/restock my 2 BOBs and overflow bag (duffel that can be truck bag and/or throw away when emprtied of food etc).... Now couple hours later after walking dog I'm finishing your vid lol
Even upgraded IFAK and tools on primary BOB
I learned so much from this video. 40 minutes flew right by.
👍👍👍👍👍 I’ve been organized so much to the point I drive people crazy, yes I am O C D. but just like you said I sleep at night and I can find anything I personally own. I operated out of a service truck and everything I needed had a place really makes you professional to your customers. Which I hope you are.
Really liked the video. Thanks for creating this content.
Hah. Love the strength test 😂. I can imagine the employees watching
I do the same but with those stackable clear plastic drawers. I haven't quite bought everything nutn has told me to LOL
professionals talk logistics, and logistics is everything while amateurs talk tactics without a thought of how they might execute a plan, great video
Alittle more high tech, but we just did this with our extra fire gear at the station. But instead of labels we got QR code stickers. Scan the code and you can see what is in the bin with pictures. So if we want a certain type of turnout coat or a specific radio model, we can find it without opening or unstacking any bins
Yep, i remember i couldn't do homework in a messy space, always had to clean first
I just got an Applebee's commercial with AC/DC's 'You shook me all night long' as background music. Now I know the world's ending.
Definitely need to do this! Thanks for the great content.
very timely advise as am about to move overseas... 10 years of stuff need to clear.. right time to kick my ass moving...👍
Already was using freezer bags(!)...the labels are a nice touch!!!
I'm totally disorganized and senile which is fine because when I find something that I forgot that I bought it's like Christmas all over again.
How did you know I needed this right now? Great video.
Dude!!! I needed this one!
