Really great video (I know this was a long time ago now) for a fantastic looking run-of-the-mill field knife. These are still being sold, quite inexpensive and look pretty good for a general purpose blade. It’s amazing how knives - even in this style - can cost hundreds and you just made this knife look like there are few that could equal it. I guess whose hand it’s in helps too! Thanks for being so thorough.
Great review! You are probably my favorite knife reviewer on YT. I've been searching for a small budget-friendly EDC fixed blade belt knife, and I ended up getting this SOG. It checked most of my boxes for what I was looking for. I wasn't sure about the blade steel, but your review helped me to pull the trigger on it. Thanks.
It is a great knife i have had one for the past year doing wilderness survival trips and it has not failed me yet. I agree with everything in this video its ups and its downs as well.
Thx for the vid, I just made a purchase for this knife for a 3rd bug out bag. I didn't want something super expensive considering its the 3rd means of cutting in this kit. you did put it thru some intensive test and I'm happy to see the blade held up. Thx again!
I like simple knives sometimes. Like the out of production Kershaw Antelope Hunter 2 or a Mora knife or even the M-37N Seal Pup or Ace, which all feature a plastic or rubber type of handle with the blade embedded into it. They're knives that you can just wash or wipe clean and are useful, but affordable enough that one can buy them without too much concern and even buy a few extras for home, shop or emergency kits. They have lightweight comfortable handles. And anything made with stainless steel can be used as a food prep blade or for cutting rope, making notches or other tasks. We don't have to have expensive knives for everything, every time, day in and day out.
It looks like a nice little skinner. I'm cool with the steel used, I don't need a super bionic knife for what I do. I could never see myself purchasing a fixed blade for over $100 bucks. Just my opinion. As someone who isn't into super bionic steel knives that cost $500+ Can someone plz tell me what would you do with a knife of that price? Other than going out to the woods and pretending to be homeless for a day or two, I just don't get it.
I'm always ok with paying for the steel and the craftsmanship such as a $150 Tops knife with more steel, a $150 folder with super steel or a $200+ bushcraft knife with custom handles and good steel etc. I agree there are many $500+ "collector" models out there that just don't do it for me. I use my gear not look at it.
Thx for the field test, I did buy this knife before watching your video, so now know I’ll be ready for my next camping & fishing trip to Utah, Nice job.
I would like to get this for on-pack carry and belt carry. I think it looks great and I want to use it for its purpose. I do use some knifes in Airsoft fields (milsim) to make stakes for a tent and to make two 4 foot posts that I can mount it to, it’s also seemingly able to make some kind of a small walking stick too which is cool!
Living off grid fulltime in the woods my knives get a workout. Tlhis Sog is a great small light weight all around knife. The sheath is nice. However I see no real use for the exposed area to cut cordage. On recent trip into the woods the string of my compound bow came in contact with it. Being kept shaving sharp you can guess the result. It now has a ranger band over that opening.
Karl Hicks It looks like a good budget camp knife but the big SOG logo on the handle is obnoxious. It's not a deal breaker for this knife but it is on some of there knives and gear. SOG does make some sexy blade shapes.
DamionJR4923 I'm a firm believer in SOG multitools. I've had a SOG PowerAssist for I don't know how many years and it's never failed me. I also had a SOG Vulcan that I chopped wood with. Gave it to my brother in law, he still has it.
Good looking knife. Given your demonstration of the knife's capabilities, I was wondering what tasks can't this knife perform to not be a bushcraft knive? Thanks
Great review, I like that knife. You should do a follow up review of its cousin the SOG ACE, its sheath is even more compact with out the grommet holes and its a camo sheath but no pommel that extends out the handle. Handle on Sog Ace does not have any logo's also.
Ooh, not too shabby. I've been looking for a smaller fixed blade to keep in my car, and this looks like it would fit that very well. And for about $30, I wouldn't be worried about it getting stolen. Do you think you could take a peek at the Camillus CK-9. It's Camillus designed, but produced by Tops Knives. It looks like a really sweet blade, but there aren't any reviews on it.
Statement: Seems like a decent knife, though I would have preferred they not have the notch on it at all. Having the two strap points on the sheath right next to each other would make it much more secure on MOLLE versus an arguably useless razor notch.
I just bought one. Biggest downside is the clip. Pure garbage in my opinion, however it took me just minutes to paracord strap it to my belt at a slight angle, grip forward a bit and it feels great that way. The big logo up and down the grip sides is ugly however it's very easy to transition this knife from foregrip to reverse grip by taking your middle finger and thumb, putting them on each side of the grip and then spinning the knife from forward to reverse and back. The shape of the logo and the outline at the edge of each side of the grip panel seriously enables that kind of rotation move. The grip is extremely solid in the hand and it's easy to lay out where the edge is in relation to your hand. Blade length is a fraction under 4" so it's not a felony in Connecticut, New York, places like that. The exposed metal pommel should work well as a window smasher for vehicle extraction needs post-crash. I drive over 100,000 miles a year so it's possible I might need that one day. This is a very legitimate little street defense weapon.
choil is to little to use as a finger choil. Wish the would have shrunk that down a bit and give more blade so there is not as much distance from your finger to working blade for better control close in. Nice review.
Say Heah Ben, I recently got the S. O. G. Pillar Fix Blade. I set the Tec-Clip to carry it Horizontal and I love it. It's around a 5" blade with tge S. O. G. Camel Hump's but it's just tge right size because it's not a large knife. It's also made out of tge S35Vn a great choice for S. O. G.,,.p
I just picked this up at tractor supply for $9.99!! Great knife, especially for the price!!

Incredible! A review vid that actually shows the item being used as intended! Love it

"Going out to the woods and pretending to be homeless for a day or two."
Ha ha ha ha! Brilliant.
Thanks for the review. Picked this up for dressing deer on my first hunting trip. Looks like a great buy. I bought it for $26 on sale from sog.
Thx for the field test, I did buy this knife before watching your video, so now know I’ll be ready for my next camping & fishing trip to Utah, Nice job.
Thank so much for watching my video.
that's a Sog? are you sure? I really wish they would stamp their logo on the blade so I know what company it's from.
On the handle.
Who cares
It is on the blade.
Says SOG on the blade and on the handle
It's call sarcasm guys... lol
I'll probably get this knife to strap on to my body armor.
Wobbles on armour through Molly
Really good review thanks
Don't like the slot in the sheath. I would be nervous with the blade exposed. But the knife looks like a good camping knife.
seat belt cutter.

Ouch
Looks like a nice budget knife to throw in a get home bag. You might never really need to use it much but it won't break the bank either. Nice review.
Looks and sounds good. Good pricing, I like it. Thanks. Tony
I like SOG knives but I hate how they smear there Logo all over everything. Sog Sog Sog, I get it I know it is a SOG I bought it.
DamionJR4923 They seem to be the only company that does it, too.
Karl Hicks It looks like a good budget camp knife but the big SOG logo on the handle is obnoxious. It's not a deal breaker for this knife but it is on some of there knives and gear. SOG does make some sexy blade shapes.
DamionJR4923 agree, the only reason im not going to get one.

Karl Hicks They do make good stuff at all different price points.
Nice one very nice video and you sold that knife very well.. As in useful no frills just a knife to d the job...keepup the good work...😃
Great video. i watched a couple others that just said the steel sucked but did not even test it. Thanks
Good looking knife. Given your demonstration of the knife's capabilities, I was wondering what tasks can't this knife perform to not be a bushcraft knive? Thanks
A bushcraft knife IMO is 4.5" with a scandi grind.
But this would certainly work.

I like that lil knife. The rubber handle though how would you compare the squish to a Mora? Is it about the same?
softer than a mora
How's the homestead coming? Also thanks for not abusing the knife and being realistic.
Homestead is coming along. Videos on LS2.
looks like that if the belt loop is wide enough you could scout carry it, nice knife
Kaylynn Strain
You'll eventually run out of belt-loops.
Really nice knife, also if that fire ring is galvanized make sure your burn it in, burn it off and don't breath the toxic fumes.
Already have another on order, LOL.
Love mine!
Doesnt come off your belt? My clips fails every time I put it on. I'm going to do a paracord wrap and grind the clip off.
Thanks Ben!
Nice demo with it knot woods and all. Tanner bugging out in the background LOL
LOL!!
That sound like he was driving home to grab a flashlight he forgot LOL Have a good one guys
I need a new fixed blade... might look into this one
DO IT!
@@livingsurvival 5 years later and the knife has gone through a deployment and tons of field craft
I'm more interested in the pants you're wearing. At first I thought Railriders but not sure.
North Face
They do have there name on it
That's going to be my next knife!

$175 for the CK-9 though...much better options out there for that price.
Great review Ben 👍
Can you scout carry this blade?
Another great review brother keep them coming!
what are a couple of knives that you recommend for bushcraft/batoning in the $30-50 price range?
Cold steel G.I. tanto
will this knife fit in a seal pups's nylon sheath?
Great looking hunting knife
Great review
Nice review and video.
Very nice thank you

Agreed.
I like the handle, but that's about it.
I love mine sog feild knive well its my sons now lol
I like that you're not a knife snob and use what you buy.
Currently 15 dollars at Tractor Supply

I got this puppy a while back expecting a zombie apocalypse…. Still waiting
No belt? 0___0

Yep, I like the handle to butt up to the end of the blade.
Hahahaha Tanner bugging out!
ill stay with my cold steel kobun.
Great knife for the price. Mora's ain't that bad, but so much plastic.
You just sold a sog knife buddy 😆

Pillar is another great knife for SOG in 2017!
Righty-only sheath. Swing-and-a-miss.
Okay but can i make toggles with it. You didnt go over toggles enough
