A lot of the guys carried SOG SEAL Pup knives in Afghanistan, but I believe they were all Taiwan-made since the Seki AUS-6 version was out of production and the China-made ones weren't being made yet. Mine is Taiwan-made and is AUS-8, it is a very light knife, I have pocket knives that are heavier, but it is one very tough knife. They were used heavily for a million different tasks, and were carried in combat just because they are light and tough. I know it's a small knife, and it's not ideal for chopping (not at all) but a bunch of us Marines carried them, along with soldiers and Spec-Ops guys, so that says something. And that handle, glass-filled (Zytel, I think that's what it's called) is just about as tough as the blade, it almost feels like carbon fiber in a way. Anyway, thanks Mayor for the video, and if anybody is interested in getting a SOG SEAL Pup then do it, it's a really good little knife.
HUGH MANN, A Marine friend of mine bought me one not long after they came out. Mine is marked Seki Japan and came with the kydex / plastic sheath that has a cut out in it to cut cord without being unsheathed. Nice little knife to have in your kit.
Thank you for posting these exhaustive knife tests. I'm a big fan of the SOG SEAL Team and SEAL Pup models, having owned a Seki pup and now a Taiwan version. Perhaps you can make a "phase 2" video for how well the different models clean up after such extreme testing (eg. Coatings, rust/corrosion, sharpening etc)
I've owned my Seal Pup for about 5 years. It really is a solid tool. Great value too. I think I paid $40. I would recommend it in a heartbeat. I'm not nearly as rough on my knives as you are Mayor, but I don't baby them either. Thanks for this excellent video.

I bought a SOG SEAL PUP today for $59.98. I always wanted one, so I finally got one . Your SOG on the video is made in China, but mine is made in Taiwan .
I was surprised when I saw how well the knife holded up on the tipping test!, puppy approved is a good sign as well lol, sadly the brick people of 2143 live for another day, yet it is a good knife test. :D
It's worth noting that the back edge is concave not straight. So it's only hitting points on the back edge. Something he doesn't point out which is important. That's why his brick test isn't really a true test.
hello mayor, good to see you again, I myself have been in hospital for a while following a automobile accident so haven't been commenting on your channel, OK now excellent review as always the knife itself is good but just Lacks a bit of weight for my liking, would it be possible to do a review on the British army survival knife in the future,(nicknamed the pig) you'll see why when you see it as always awesome video thanks for sharing from the UK

was the sog seal pup really issued to SEALs or is it just the case of some SEAL guys buying a few of this stuff. cause it's one thing if a few of these got picked up by spec op guys and another if sog actually is under contract with DOD to supply knives for the SEALs
This is really a knife designed to kill... not to survive in the wilderness. it does ok in that area, but in a hung up air assault repelling situation it will cut that nylon repelling rope like butter, and it will slice a throat or penetrate a chest with minimal effort, which is what it was designed to do!
Nice test . Can you please try to fillet a fish with one of the survival knifes just to see if it can be used as a knife . In survival situation might need to eat at one point .
I'd like to see a test of the Japanese original. I have one myself and the powder-coating on the steel looks quite different. Not sure if it's AUS8 or not.
hey hey hey please destroy a KA-BAR warthog heavy duty. I've been wanting one and can't seem to talk myself out of it, I would have to buy a custom kydex holster to carry it scout the way I intend.
I just noticed on SOG's website they're now selling Seal Pups made from CHINA instead of TAIWAN. I've been looking for the legit TAIWAN version, so if anyone can help it'd be much appreciated.
Didn't know they were made in China! Taiwan have been making good blades for a long time, so has China. But China do make some crap. Just didn't think SOG who recommend the forces to use their knives to have them made in China!
i know i have said it before but i still really want to see it because i do not see anyone taking these knives as far as you do... yeah you can find some channels that take it as far or even farther but they are not dedicated to it. sooo i still want to see it hammered through something like... lets say i found a small staff of wood and i want to split it to make a bow or just split a log of maybe 3-4" diameter for kindling ect. ect. i have seen fewer knives pass this test and honestly it's the one i am most concerned about. as a minimalist prepper i would like to see if there is a knife out there that can handle all the things i might put it through in a dooms day brick man survival scenario. the brick test is pretty close to this but the kabar can survive the brick but can not survive the one suggested. just want to see it used a bit more like a tool of a man that is desperate =)
I will see if I can get some batoning tests in order. Some of my viewers request it, and I will see if I can include it in next time. Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
When stabing wood please keep your tumb on the but endon the handle if not it will be just a matter of time that your hand will slip all the way down that blade🥶🥶🥶
Liked the video. But I, and I get the feeling you do also, want a bigger blade you can actually chop with for the tests. Please consider this comment for the next video :D keep it up !
Well, not quite as misleading as a comparison of apples and oranges nonetheless, the substitution of a lemon for a lime does call the validity of this particular test into question. With apologies to Foghorn Leghorn; "That's a joke son." Actually I own this China version and for my uses I have been satisfied with it.
I watch, like, share and Sub your channel because you do the only TRULY realistic KNIFE testing on U-Tube, not to to mention your entertaining! That said, I would very much appreciate it if you would test the Schrade SCHF-27, IT HAS A 30-36 DOLLAR PRICE RANGE, BUT HAS GOTTEN A LOTS OF POSITIVE FEEDBACK, TO ME, YOUR FEEDBACK IS THE ONLY ONE I TRUST. SO PLEASE, PLEASE TEST this knife YOUR DEDICATED FAN/SUBSCRIBER, JOHN Petzold. And thanks again for ALL the great knife trials Mayorfuglycool!!!!!!

i know i have said it before but i still really want to see it because i do not see anyone taking these knives as far as you do... yeah you can find some channels that take it as far or even farther but they are not dedicated to it. sooo i still want to see it hammered through something like... lets say i found a small staff of wood and i want to split it to make a bow or just split a log of maybe 3-4" diameter for kindling ect. ect. i have seen fewer knives pass this test and honestly it's the one i am most concerned about. as a minimalist prepper i would like to see if there is a knife out there that can handle all the things i might put it through in a dooms day brick man survival scenario. the brick test is pretty close to this but the kabar can survive the brick but can not survive the one suggested. just want to see it used a bit more like a tool of a man that is desperate =)
I will see if I can get some batoning tests in order. Some of my viewers request it, and I will see if I can include it in next time. Thanks for watching friend :)

With apologies to Foghorn Leghorn; "That's a joke son." Actually I own this China version and for my uses I have been satisfied with it.
break the tip
It's tough steel :)

Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiina lol
Is this a real SOG or is it a knockoff? Thought they were all made in Thailand and previously Japan.
Thanks friend, I will see if I can get a SCHF 27 in the near future. Thanks for watching !
