Painting Furniture for Beginners | Using All in One Mineral Paint

- In this video I paint a solid wood vintage washstand I found at a local thrift store. I am using Silk All-in-One Mineral Paint by Dixie Belle, I decided to use the color Deep Sea. I wanted to keep this furniture makeover simple, I use some paint and I do a small amount of staining. I also sanded everything by hand avoiding the use of my electric sander.
This is the perfect furniture painting and staining project for beginners. If I can do it in my apartment I am sure you can do it too!

Love the scrapper. On my list to buy.
Vancouver looks gloomy. I live in London so kinda same.
Lack of sun.
Definitely recommend the scraper, love it! And from what I am told Vancouver has a lot of rain in the winter, but the summers are super nice. However, in the past few days its been snowing a lot but the sun is shining! Beautiful city!
Looks great! Welcome back and congrats on the new home. Wishing you lots of success and happiness in 2022. Happy New Year! 🥂😀
Nice job
Nice to see u back.
Thank you!! Thanks for watching!
Welcome back!!! I love how this turned out! I haven't used Deep Sea yet, but it looks beautiful! The only thing that I dislike about Silk is that you can't water it down or dampen your brush because the water affects the built in top coat, so I have to paint really quickly to prevent brush strokes. Your finish turned out so smooth, I'm so impressed!
Thanks! I find it’s all in the final pass through with the brush, go with the grain and all in one motion, then do a light sanding between! Definitely helps provides a nice smooth finish 👍🏻
Brandy (from Brushed by Brandy) has said you can use a tiny bit of water with Silk. The first time I used Silk, I didn't use any water, and I hated using it. After I heard Brandy say you can use a bit of water, I really like using it. I spray my brush and the my surface once and that helps tremendously.
Happy New Year,,,,handsome piece,,,,
New subscriber here I love how this turned out great job
Very nice...
helllllo sir welcome back and happy new year.
Thanks Mr Brayden - Happy New Year buddyyy
Hi there...nice to see you back on YT....Why did you move to BC ?...I'm in Ontario....I love this wash stand, it would look good with a basin and pitcher on it, I was surprised to see how those 2 colors blended so well....Take care...stay safe...
I moved out here because my girlfriend got into a 1 year program for school. We also wanted to live in a bigger city, plus we love the mountains, so Vancouver was a perfect pick! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
Looks beautiful! Adding water to Silk is NOT recommended unless you are thinning to spray. Dixie Belle's Silk line is a different formula than their regular chalk style paint. Silk is comparable to Fusion.
Nice to know! It was my first time using it! I have added 10% water to fusion for spraying and it has helped a lot, I guess it's a similar formula. Thanks for the info and for watching the video!
🖒⚘
If you scrape and sand the surface isn't the first step with the Krud Kutter unnecessary?
I only scrape the drawer and then I sanded it down to bare wood. Removing any grease is always a good start to a project no matter what. As for scuff sanding the rest you definitely want to clean it or you will gum up the sandpaper and also cause adhesion issues with the paint.
@@FurnitureFlippa I see. Thanks. I moved a year ago which made me want to do something about my 25 year old furniture. I've painted some pieces and I started by cleaning them. When I got so sanding I was wondering why cleaning before sanding was needed. So thank you for clearing it up for me!
Ordinarily I would not agree with painting an antique like that but it was so boring before that you made it look amazing.
Thanks! Glad you liked how it turned out!
That was a beautiful piece of wood. Kind of a shame to paint it all black. I think I would have at least kept the top a natural oak. No reason to hide that extraordinary grain.
Cat's out of the bag on All In One Paint. Doesn't work. There's a reason why primers. exist, paints exist and topcoats exist and there's a reason why you can't just mix them all up and put on at once.
That being said, it probably doesn't matter on a piece like this. It just sits up against a wall and is hardly touched. But put that All In One on heavily used cabinets and it'll be chipping off inside 6 months.
Also, you scuff-sanded and top-coated. You're not supposed to have to with All In One. So, you don't believe either.
First of all, thanks for watching!
I typically always prime furniture, but I am in a new environment and can't use my typical products so I am testing new things. After the paint and wax has cured it is feeling extremely durable, I must say. Usually, I do not listen to all in one, and I don't in this project either since I added wax as more protection.
As for the scuff sanding I always sand before painting no matter what. It helps the paint adhere and also helps produce a super smooth surface!
All in all, I am impressed with the product. It seems to do a pretty good job adhering without a primer, which is nice for a beginner project, which this video is about.
Cheers - Jamie
взял и закрыл краской , весь рисунок дерева, печально. До переделки стол был лучше и ручки красивее.
the handles were missing, what are you talking about lol
