    And another great teaching video! Not only a fantastic furniture artist, but you are also super at teaching! I did notice you chose not to paint the interior of the hutch and shelving (upper level that has the glass doors). All through the video I kept "stressing" that you weren't doing it and wondering how it would look unpainted while the rest of the piece was. Then, you staged it and I found that all my "stressing" was for naught! The piece actually looked absolutely great without the interior being painted. I'm very new to the furniture painting world and obviously have very much to learn. I look forward to your videos and greatly appreciate you sharing your talent and skills with all of us. You are so accomplished and relatable in your teaching style. You are detailed in your instruction, but fun....definitely NOT dry and stuffy! Thank you so much!

      Thank you so much Sandy!! okay so the client wanted to keep the wood buttttt, grey, whites and other dark blues and blacks look really pretty with a mix of wood and paint :) A lot of the stuff I work on is custom and some clients give me freedom and some don't :) I try to make each piece unique so keep the inside wood sets it apart I think :) and the wood color looks really great with that grey :)

      One more thing, if I may... I detest using any and all of the clear coats (I use Dixie Belle products) and Gator Hide because I SUCK at applying them to where I think they look nice. I have watched so many videos, and I continue to do, what I feel like is a terrible job with them. I try thin coats, I try mixing some paint color in, I try misting, I try your one direction then long light strokes... why am I so top-coat challenged ?!!!😭

      If you follow exactly what I tell you, you won’t have problems, people try to go back and get spots they missed and it causes problems I have used silk extensively and I can tell you this with all the love in my heart that when people have problems it’s usually user error or climate (ie painting in direct sunlight or by a direct heat source) I think people don’t realize the paint is the paint, literally the formula doesn’t change what DOES change is the painter, the piece and the environment. You know what I mean? It is sooo easy to use

    I’ve only painted two items with Dixie Belle paint. The first Piece I used chalk paint, the second I used Dixie Belle “silk” paint. I have to say, I love both paints (both were easy to use), but the silk paint is incredibly easy and the leveling property is just phenomenal. I am 70 so I’m not big on doing “furniture art”. I want a paint I can use quickly and that when I’m done my piece will look good and not scratch easily. I’m not saying I won’t ever use the chalk paint again, but I’m pretty sure this new Silk paint is the way to go for me! However I think both paints have specific uses and people should not confuse Silk paint as a substitute for chalk paint.

    • @BellaRenovare
      @BellaRenovare  3 года назад +2

      you know what there are people who will love chalk people who will love silk and some people who use both, I think silk sounds like it is right up your alley. I agree 100% with what you said they are apples to oranges, that has been really tough to get people to understand, I feel like maybe I should do a ten minute Tuesday on the different TYPES of actual paint (not brands but type)

    • @judywilliamson2068
      @judywilliamson2068 3 года назад +1

      @@BellaRenovare I just wanted to get back to you and say, I think that’s a great idea! I know there is a lot of confusion even at my local antique mall (where I buy my Dixie Belle paint) about the uses for silk paint. I just don’t understand it if they are Dixie Belle retailers they should understand their product better. Just using the silk paint one time I quickly realized that it was not the same product as chalk paint, this is definitely not a paint to use for “blending”, But some of the dealers are saying you can use it for “everything” you can use chalk paint for but you just don’t have to seal it. I’m afraid if people listen to that advice they’re going to be very disappointed. You definitely do not want to apply silk paint the way you can chalk paint, because it’s going to be a streaky. For me, I just wanted to quickly refurbish a small three drawer dresser for my daughters guest bedroom. I didn’t want to blend or do anything extraordinary with it I just wanted a nice clean coat of paint to give the piece new life, to refurbish the hardware and be done with it. I’m too old to work too long on any project! LOL But for approximately $75 I provided her with a beautiful piece of furniture in the color she wanted and that fits perfectly in her space. You just can’t beat that! I’m sure I could’ve added a molded design before I painted or a transfer design after I painted it but I’m pretty sure once you said that you’ve said it all when it comes to silk paint, but if I am wrong maybe you could correct me? I really don’t think chalk paint is replaceable especially when you are doing more detailed furniture art. Of which I believe you are quite awesome! I just love to see your work. Of course I will never work that hard but I love watching you do it. LOL

    What is it about big vs. little pieces? I think we gravitate towards the small ones, thinking we can get them done quickly and then they take forever! Love how you did this in 1 day as I'm working on a dining set right now with a 3 piece breakfront and 6 chairs in Deep Seas and it's gorgeous! (I started painting the fabric seats in Amethyst because I can't resist color and my adult son thinks I'm mad...LOL). Just finished a client's bath we completely rehabbed and used Wharf...so incredible! (However, I did use Slick Stick and Gator Hide on the doors only, just to be really safe and will be interested to see how they hold up). I'm totally in love with Silk, now just have to trust the built in topcoat.

    Ok really dumb question. What do you do with all of your micro fiber cloths after you use them to clean a piece or when wiping back a paint wash??? Do you wash them in your washing machine or sink? Also, I think I heard that White Lightning shouldn’t be poured down the sink. Is that true? If so, how/where do you dispose of it?

    I'm eager to try silk. I haven't heard the best reviews from my local distributors. I am really hoping their experiences with it was that they Didn't know how to use it properly or maybe that they used water with it? Anyway, I'm hoping that I like it because I would love to have less steps. I'm hoping it's truly durable without a top coat. I'm going to pick some up tomorrow and paint something

    • @BellaRenovare
      @BellaRenovare  3 года назад

      okay so, you know I am a straight shooter, or at least I HOPE you know that. I have extensively used many many brands as well as silk, I was able to use it when they first launched it so I have had it for almost a year. Okay so here is one thing to keep in mind. Mineral paint is not going to be for everyone, just like chalk paints aren't, just like clay based paints aren't. It's not that any one product is bad, unless it truly is bad, but let's say 95/100 people liked a paint but 5 didn't at that point it's one of two things, preference and user error.
      These paints are just a bunch of minerals and chemicals or water they don't change. what DOES change is the painter, the surface they are painting on and the way someone paints. Even prep, and whether someone truly adheres to what they need specific to the paint they use. So if someone talks bad about a paint but a majority of people enjoy it at that point you have to ask yourself, is it just because the USER prefers something else or had gotten to really like a different product and the "new" product is just not like the one they have gotten used to?
      sorry that was a ramble but I mean this across the board with anything, unless a product truly is just crap or defective I FEEL like too many people speak bad about things as if their opinion is facts when really its just their preference if that makes sense?
      so I say all that to say, TRY IT, see if YOU like it, don't let others opinions sway you about something. I LOVE RUNNING many many many many people hate it lol if I listened to the people who hate it and never started I wouldn't have found something I love :)

      It has a built in top coat so no need for wax, you can mix it with other silk colors but you don’t want to mix it with any other types or brands because it will break down the resin and acrylic binders and it won’t work as advertised. Transfers go on this paint beautifully :)

    • @BellaRenovare

      yes you can, the thing with blending a mineral paint is that the one time isn't as great and it doesn't;t do well with loads of water so when you do blend you need to use the moisture of the actual paint, more like an artist blend if that makes sense?
