  • Millions of people living with diabetes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) do not yet have affordable, sustained access to the full range of products they need, from insulin to blood glucose monitoring devices. In recognition of World Diabetes Day, the Access to Medicine Foundation hosted a fireside chat to discuss existing barriers in promoting holistic access to essential diabetes care products, identify successful initiatives and strategies to address these barriers, and highlight priority areas for all stakeholders involved in improving access to diabetes care.
Dr Edward Kariithi, Programs Director & NCD Lead at PATH Kenya, Emma Klatman, Global Policy & Advocacy Manager at Life for a Child, and Nupur Lalvani, Founder Director at Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation, shared insightful perspectives on the issues of access, drawing on the examples from their work. The discussion was moderated by Claudia Martínez, the Foundation's Research Programme Manager.
