      Keto + Intermittent Fasting (i do One Meal A Day /OMAD but generally its 16:8) made me improve my health significantly. The most important thing is to keep yourself busy in the first few days to suppress a lot of negative mental/emotional symptoms. Once you’re in “the zone” it gets way way easier. I watched this video and subsequently implemented the doctor's advice in my lifestyle. Fast forward to February 13, 2018. After recording all my blood sugar readings it showed of average range of 91 to 101. My doctor's first word to me were "it's a miracle" you are no longer a diabetic. I can't go back to eating like before, I just need to keep eating and exercising the way I have been the last six weeks. A VERY BIG THANK YOU , to Doctor SARAH HALBERG!....Folks it can be done.

      Joe, Very inspiring story! I have a question: how did you actually monitor your sugar levels so that you could slowly decrease insulin? I'm in a similar situation here, have been eating low-carb for about two weeks now, but my bloodsugar levels don't really want to go down UNLESS I take the usual insulin shots ..., I mean, all in all, they're a little bit lower than before and, what's important, I no longer have these spikes, these roller coaster rides with my bloodsugar. Type 1 diabetes is when your body is allergic to the cells that produce insulin. With DM1 you have to stick yourself with insulin no matter what.
      DM2 however, yes, that is essentially a carbohydrate allergy.

    • @w1975b
      @w1975b 6 лет назад +55

      @@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 from what I've read or heard others say, type 1 is actually the cells in the pancreas which are supposed to produce insulin CAN'T for some reason, not that your body is allergic to the cells. And the more someone reduces their carb intake, the less insulin they need to take. Keto is still the ideal diet for someone with type 1, to minimize their required insulin as much as possible.

After hospital discharge in 2011, a friend/diabetic educator told me to IGNORE the American Diabetes Association recommendations or I would be fat first and deceased in less than 10-years. Because of his advice and my dedication to monitoring the food I eat, my semi-annual Ac1 is 5.3. SI Beez That is great! Imagine if you didn't have this friend, like 99% of other newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetics. They eat ADA-recommended "healthy" whole grains, guaranteeing them a life of diabetes, deteriorating health, and expensive insulin and medication. And all it takes to stop it is a simple change in diet. The ADA, no doubt, is a criminal organization that does not want this word to get out because it would almost put them out of business (there are not enough Type 1's to sustain their bloated organization). A pox on them.

    • @oldflute
      @oldflute 9 лет назад +6

      Eric K Not criminal. Don't put on a tinfoil hat. Face reality. The ADA have simply acted "by committee" to draw up "guidelines" based on an incomplete, in fact almost non-existent, data base. There has been almost NO significant human (clinical) research on dietary effects on diabetes either funded or published in the last 30 years. Blame the NIH and the various private funding organization (yes, including the ADA) for not supporting this type of research.

      I'm type 1 diagnosed at age 9 over 40 years ago. When I was in my teens, the ADA started getting afraid of fat and suggesting a larger and larger proportion of carbohydrates for diabetics -- and I listened. Decades of skimmed milk and breakfast cereals and black coffee and rice and steamed wheat berries... then the diabetic retinopathy and the neuropathy and impotence... the endless nagging from my doctors, the increased doses of insulin that ensured an inexorable gain of weight... You're very fortunate that you've learned the right way early on. I've been on low-carb-high-fat for about six years and it's helped a lot but much irreversible damage has been done.

At the same time, I was diagnosed with diabetes. By following her advice, I reversed the diabetes and lost 40 pounds. I no longer am diagnosed with diabetes. Actually my doctor said that she considers me "a diet-controlled diabetic". I've also been free of cancer for six years. It's not just what I eat, it's also getting more exercise. I moved to Mexico and live in a small mountain town without a car. I walk everywhere. I never got into eating baked goods made with non-grain based flours, but I'm going to try that. I usually break my fast with a breakfast of either quinoa or some kind of eggs, usually with lots of veggies. It doesn't spike my blood sugar the way that oatmeal, yogurt and other things I used to have for breakfast did. I do eat avocadoes every day. So wonderful to live in Michoacan where they are plentiful year-round. I also have locally-made butter, which is the best. My advice to anyone with cancer or diabetes is to take it as a wake-up call that you need to take better care of your health.

A head of lettuce in the grocery store that only lasts two meals is $4 US, 1kg of rice is less than $2 US and lasts five meals. When you consider that I don't make much money and I have other things to do with my income, it's easier to just buy the food that makes that possible, as I reason that all I need is fuel to keep me going to achieve my goals. I started looking into low carb diets and after 7 months of a high fat, low carb (HFLC) diet my endocrinologist has told me I no longer need my medications and she is amazed at how well I controlled my blood sugar levels. The side benefit is a loss of nearly 40 pounds. My high blood pressure has also been reduced dramatically.

Within six months I had dropped my A1C down to 5.6 and now 20 months later my A1C is below 5.0 with an eAG of 83 and daily FBS’s in the low to mid 80’s. In addition, I’ve lost 130 pounds and I’m down in my weight to where I was 50 years ago when we got married. I live by the mantra that my T2D is in remission instead of being reversed because I know that if I don’t eat and live this healthy lifestyle I can easily be back where I started 20 months ago and I NEVER intend on going there again - EVER!

At 56, I was a few years into an on-call 24/7 stressful job that didn't allow me the time to do anything besides work, I was tired, had gained 20 lbs., had pre-diabetes and my overall cholesterol was 223. I was offered statins by my doctor but, told him, no thank you, "I broke it. I need to fix it". I found your video. I ramped up slowly, doing low GPS when I couldn't do no GPS but, always aiming for and returning to the "no". I lost 15 lbs the first year and then a year later 5 more. Not huge numbers but, exactly what I needed. I eat so much healthier now. I have the energy to exercise again, no longer have pre-diabetes and my overall cholesterol is just under 200. Sooo grateful. This is not as hard to do as you fear. My doc told me to cut out white carbs, which I did, and I lost 25 kg in a few months. What a great motivation that was and is to stay off the carbs. I no long even want the damn things any more, because I know how well this worked for me. If I want to snack, olives, cheese and salami are so much more satisfying than chips, candy, pastries etc. Best yet, the snack urge goes way down when not eating carbs.
      There are enough other good foods to get you through the rest of your life. You/we do not need any of the old favorites, because new (healthy) favorites arise. And, never be afraid to turn down a carb just to be polite. I just say "Thanks, but my doctor forbids this for me, and s/he has been right so far." People accept that you are making the effort and everyone who has seen the newer, slimmer you will support you.
      So, just dare to commit yourself, which means don't cheat. Use the gains in your health to stay on the right path.
      Best wishes.

    I was diagnosed with diabetes 8 months ago at the age of 22, and it completely shocked me. I had no idea what to do until I came across this amazing video that changed my life. Since then, I've made incredible progress. I started at 181 lbs, and now I'm down to 146 lbs.
    As a lifelong vegan, I realized that my Asian diet, which included a lot of rice, combined with my lack of exercise, contributed to my type 2 diabetes. But things have turned around for me. I now have oatmeal for breakfast and lunch, drink plenty of water every day, and strive to achieve 6000 steps daily. I also incorporate 30 minutes of exercise, burning around 100-200 calories per session.
    After 8 months of determination and hard work, I am thrilled to say that my A1C has dropped to 5.2. I never thought I would be able to achieve such amazing results without even having to poke my finger for blood tests. I've been following a low-carb diet since my diagnosis, and it has made a world of difference.
    I want to share my story to inspire others. Yes, type 2 diabetes can be reversed! I did it, and I believe you can do it too. Trust yourself and make the necessary changes. You have the power to take control of your health and live a vibrant life.

    During the pandemic, I was consuming 500 grams of sugar per day give or take. Mostly sweet tea and cola. It got to the point where I could hardly function every day because of how sick I felt. I assumed I was having heart issues, possibly kidney issues, or liver damage. Maybe cancer. I wasn't sure what it was so I finally decided to begin a "self diagnosis experiment" where I quit consuming any sugars or carbs of any kind and begin intermittent fasting 16/8. The sugar and especially caffeine withdrawal was horrific. Blinding headaches and nausea. After about three days, mostly in bed, the headaches started to go away and the energy I began to feel came back like I hadn't felt in at least 5 years. Before, it was all I could do to stay awake after eating a meal. That went away almost immediately. I am now literally in a recovery process from how sick I was making myself due to my strong addiction to sugar and caffeine. I feel truly like a drug addict as I was ignoring my health just to get my all day fix of sugar and caffeine. Folks like Dr. Hallberg are modern day heroes for trying to get this info out to the public.

    I am not diabetic but I am insulin resistant. I have struggled for months following the advice of most medical professionals. I finally decided to try something more dramatic. I became a carnivore. I cut out all sugar and carbs. I would have less than 10g of carbs daily from cheese. I lost 35lbs.
    I am now transitioning to a keto style of eating where I can have low carb veggies. I know it was drastic, but it was what I needed, and now, as I add foods back into my diet, I can see if I have any sensitivities I may not have known about. I didn't know it, but asparagus makes me feel extremely bloated, and I don't tolerate it. It has been the best thing I ever did for myself. Quiting sugar and refined carbs has given me the freedom to feel good again. To anyone who thinks that they can't give up sugar... it is easier than you think. That's a bit of a leap she's making, to assume anyone is trying to keep people sick.
      Maybe, just maybe, this way of eating isn't possible, let alone sustainable, for most people. Did you notice she didn't mention any studies saying what percent of people are able to eat this way, and sustain it, and their A1c results for 10 years?

      @@ALinn-vr3nl just as a heads up Dr Ken Berry is in the comments section; go to his YT channel and check out the info he has, with citations in each video; medicine has largely changed from the old model of keeping people healthy to keeping people sick because of the profiteering by big pharma; most, including many doctors, cannot see this, it’s not that they’re uneducated or even are aware but want to kill people/keep them unwell, but they tend toward caution with many new approaches to any illness, so they’d sooner stick with the orthodoxy than be seen to make a mistake that could end their career!
      But I and countless others are among those who have been told “diabetes is a chronic condition that you’ll just have to learn to live with, and which will eventually take your life; but here are some (multiple) meds that will at least stabilise the condition; at some point we’ll need to up the dosage of or even give you more pills, just to keep it stable……..oh and here’s some insulin to treat the worst effects of it because you’ve got it bad!”
      I, like most people, took that very badly and went home depressed, facing a bleak future; but after a short while that depression gave way to anger that I either wouldn’t grow old in any health to be able to enjoy it or I simply wouldn’t grow old! So I went on the internet (I know, how crazy, as if you’re gonna find answers there, right!); I googled “Is type 2 diabetes incurable?”; what came up mostly said the affirmative, but then I saw a link to one Dr Eric Berg….I thought well in for a penny in for a pound, I’m dying anyway so what’s the harm?
      Here I am five years later, I’ve reversed T2 diabetes, lost 5st, have bags more energy and look and feel like I did in my mid to late 20s! I’m 58.
      Low carb is VERY achievable as a lifestyle, I know, I’m not rich, I’ve got five kids and two grandchildren and I’m happily married; my oldest kids and my wife have watched in amazement as I’ve turned my health around and taken up my eating habits, including fasting, with nothing but GOOD effects from it;
      I’ll agree keto doesn’t suit everyone, but disagree that high or even medium carb is ok for anyone! Your body makes enough glucose without the need for ANY dietary glucose, from consumed proteins and fats, and in a healthy person there is only, and should only be, one teaspoon of sugar in their entire body at any given time, and then only through gluconeogenesis, not through consuming sweet stuff or carbs….

    What a powerful talk, Madam. I understand that she is no more. RIP doctor. Your legacy lives on.
