    Another great way to propagate them is by the tubers. You just lay them on some soil and they will grow a complete new plant. My string of hearts had 5-6 tubers on only one string, so I cut the whole thing off and placed it in a circular shape into a new pot, if that makes sense.

    • @CrazyPlantGuy
      @CrazyPlantGuy  5 лет назад +1

      farins explodiertefreundin Yes makes sense. I will try that next time. Right now my SOH doesn’t have much tubers.

    • @possumfriend2335
      @possumfriend2335 4 года назад +2

      @alexza03 They grow little round parts along the string, hence the other common name, rosary vine, and those are the tubers they mean. You can cut above those and lay those on the soil. You can do the wrap of the string on the soil to get nodes to root too but keep the strand rooted and do that rather than cut it and wrap, if that makes sense. That's worked better on mine.

  • @michellereed479
    @michellereed479 3 года назад +4

    I prefer to use sphagnum moss for propagating soh. I find that each cutting forms it's own little bulb & roots, therefore the cuttings have a much higher success rate. Often you will have to leave some moss on the roots when transferring to soil because the roots cling to the moss.

      @@carolmeyer5505 In growing season {spring summer} water then sparsely...They really don't like being over -watered. Let them dry out between waterings. In Autumn/Winter they go dormant, so only water when they look like they need it {soil very dry and their leaves feel less 'full'.} I'm sure Crazy Plant guy will be along soon...but don't panic..the white bulb is quite normal...Ive owned my 3 for only 18 months, but they all have the bulb showing. Over watering kills more succulent type plant than under watering. 🌱

    Hello and thank you for this video !! I bought cuttings of string of hearts. When I received them it came with instructions to dip cutting in rooting hormone and place into cactus soil with a bit of perlite mixed in. So being a newbie to string of hearts that's what I did. Then it said to gently water and place in bright indirect sunlight. 3 weeks later I got caught in one of the strings, ok my long hair did ! To my surprise it had tugged the string up a bit .... and there were roots !!!!! Love your video's!!

      It will form roots...you can after a few months snip the loop to make two separate strings.
      NOW {Autumn in Northern hemisphere} isn't a good time to do it as the plant goes dormant, but if you are in the Southern Hemisphere...go ahead {lengthening days}

    Hi, you have more choices than just water. There are about four ways they can be propagated. Butterfly’s on soil top. A string on soil top. Water and the bark type nodes that can get quite large too can be cut apart and left to herded and then those will spark new growth also its the hardest way but it works too. Beautiful father/mother whatever you’d choose! Lol

    You can also propagate the leaves. I have successfully propped 10/15 leaves now so when you cut them off it’s worth a try. I find it s great solution to give the top side a bit more thickness. However instead of cutting, carefull pull the leaf (with the small stem attachted to the node) and make sure the stem comes off. You need that stem.

    Thanks for this video! Question - where do you plant them after propagating? Do you then add the new ones to the same pot and that's how it becomes so bushy? I have a tiny string of hearts plant, and it only has 5 strings growing, so I was wondering how to increase the amount of strings like yours?

      Daria, after watching a couple of videos I found this one where she explains around minute 4-5 how to make it bushy ruclips.net/video/AQxLtmY1OY4/видео.html

      @@EmanuelMartinezVazquez So funny, just before I saw your comment I was watching the same video and wanted to tell you about it! :D Seems like a good way to make the plant bushier!

    Thank you, I will try the water propagation today. The butterfly method aint treating me well for some reason, even tho I did everything as recommended, (the new growths started to rot from the top even with decent roots in spaghnum and potting them sooner to save them only made them freeze in development). so this will prolly be safer and simpler and quicker in the end...with the speed of growth of the motherplant I dont really need to use the butterfly method I guess...

    Hi Christian! Happy Labor Day Weekend!
    I use the same mix for my potting soil. Works great!
    We have the same scissors too. LOL!
    Where did you buy the vases you used at your "propagation station"? They are really cool looking.
    I have never seen String of Hearts locally. If I ever do, I will buy one and propagate it. Looks preatty easy.
    Enjoy!

    So just found your channel. Thanks. Big Hoya fan so just started on dischidias and string of everything lol. Don't have one of these yet. Especially a varigated variety...
    So just one thing.. whenever your trying to untangle 'anything' do it from the bottom up. Not as easy to decide which one you want to grab but it's kinda like long necklaces I'm gonna guess you don't deal with lol.

    Thanks for the video, I found it helpful although confused because some people say all you have to do is lay the tubers on top of the soil? But this seems like a lot more work! But I’ll see how it goes. I had a problem where the tops of the strings on my plant were drying up meaning the rest of the string would just fall off. I had no idea why this was happening, perhaps they weren’t properly rooted when I bought the plant?

    Question!
    If I only propagate one strand and put in soil, will any more strands pop out or will that one strand just get longer and longer?

      If you lay it down and pin the nodes to the soil you will get new strings from there

      @@calamitynatalie8590 I have tried ''Layering'' but not yet had new strings...but they are independent strings now, cut from their 'parent' once rooted.

      Oakleaf700 Mine took a few weeks but of 4 cuttings 3 have new strands coming off them! I bought some extra cuttings and I’m doing them in water just to speed along my pot progress!
