  • I tried my hand at some of the more difficult coral species kept in the hobby. After a successful 7 months of keeping my tank parameters rock solid and the current corals in my tank thriving, I thought It was time to test the waters (pun intended).
    Stay tuned because today is an exciting video, but the next ones are going to be even better!!

    Nice sizes. The yellow fiji one will look green under blues. And should look yellow under white lighting.

      I definitely run my lights with a good about of white, so it should look great when settled in.
      I've heard also increasing the green chanel can help produce more yellow as well. Not sure if that's just a visual thing or if it helps the coral produce more yellow pigment.

    Red Dragon is pretty easy, certainly for a smooth skin acro. Those tips look like they arrived peeling though.

      It really does look like that on camera but to the eye it has color all the way up to the tip, though slightly more pale. Today is 13 days later and they still look pretty good, so fingers crossed 🤞 Thanks for looking out 🤙

    Pretty! I like the green/purple guy, to me he looks like an alien sci-fi tower 👽

      Speaking of aliens, a small mushroom-only tank would be pretty cool, could look like an apocalyptic alien wasteland. 👽 🍄

    What do you do to keep phosphates in check with the nitrates going up

    • @Colton_Lee
      @Colton_Lee  10 дней назад

      Besides feeding foods lower in phosphate (frozen foods have much less than pellets or flakes) and doing occasional water changes, I've run Phosban and most phosphate removers seem keep up with a fairly modest level of input. I have also heard that Kalkwasser has a phosphate/phosphorous (not sure which or maybe both) lowering effect. Its probably small, but would explain my phosphate not rising much after I hadn't run phosban in a while.

      @@Colton_Lee man lower phosphate foods phosphate media and sodium nitrate dosing that’s seems like a lot keep eye on it

    • @Colton_Lee
      @Colton_Lee  10 дней назад

      @@xhongxina286 The only reason I'm staring sodium nitrate is because I'm struggling to get my nutrients up after having carbon dosed the end of last year. Normally I would just run the skimmer to keep the nutrients balanced, let the refugium chaeto do its thing and occasionally refresh my phosban if needed.
      Especially with occasional water changes, you could remove the need for phosphate remover if you input is low.

    What are your PAR values?

    • @Colton_Lee
      @Colton_Lee  10 дней назад

      Good question! The video I'm working on right now goes over that very topic. At the top of my scape is around 80-90 and sandbed is roughly 50-60. That's straight down from the center, it will obviously be less at the sides.
      I definitely have room to adjust them brighter, I just wanted to wait until I had a PAR meter until I made any changes since everything was doing okay at the current levels.
