Danny’s aquariums look pristine. His corals look amazing with such minimalist equipment. Thanks for the tour March.
Let’s goo Boss Man March! 👌🍻🫶
MARCH!! .. Our ADHD Alumn & Alli ! I've seen Danny's vids for years, but it took your style title and poking around for me to finally truly appreciate what Danny has done so well.. and how. March On!
What a fantastic collaboration video guys 🙌.
Heya march and danny! your channels both huge inspirations and i love wathcing them IM HYPED cant wait for this VIDJA
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy!
i literally thought i had clicked on one or Danny's videos so i got whiplash hearing the FragBox intro hahahaha
Very cool setup! 😃
Thanks!!
I have been 7 tiny reef tanks and have done this method from Danny. It’s great
What a collab! Awesome vid. I recently (2 months ago) set up my reef tank, and made a March-style 2 island scape haha
first time ive ever heard of a filterless saltwater tank. thats awesome. seems very low maintenance. i might have to try this one day when i convert to a saltwater aquarist.
Amazing !!
These looks so good
Jeah...reminds me of my first steps of reef keeping 15y ago....nothing was a problem....after 15y you fight with algae and all problems imaginable on a monthly base :)
Super inspiring 🔥
very nice and clean tanks beautiful job Danny.
Thank you!
This is the highest tech no-filter setup ive ever seen.
How is that even possible? 😂
Can’t set up a tank like this without a heater, dosing pump, flow or lighting.. they are essential to any aquarium.
Super inspirational video, March. His tanks are so low tech and pristine!
I have the same setup for the most part just different lights and wave makers, no sump, no canister no skimmer….nothing. Been 9 years working just fine.
That’s awesome! 🤩
I was going to say there is no way he isn’t doing any cleaning. He gravels the sand, which is probably a big part of reefing. However it’s the one thing most reefers would like to avoid - but you have to get that detritus out of the tank. That’s really the big challenge it’s detritus
Love Danny's Aquariums. Great to see you make it over to his area and check it out! I am going to try and run a skimmer less/ mechanical filtration-less system for my next nano.
HOW old is the Pagoda coral/cup coral? in the middle tank? I have been wanting to pick one up an been curious about its growth rate. I had those same plate coral and lost them. Hanging onto the skeleton and hoping for a miracle birthing of babies someday.
I can't believe it's 3 years old without filtration and doing water change with natural sea water, too very lucky , nice tank 👍🏼
Incredible. IF you succeed with an acro dominated tank with this method, it will be GREAT to see done! Please take us along thtough the process, good & bad. Rooting for you.
"No real filtration system other than the live rock" Nahhh, there's a bunch of coral in there, too. Those corals will suck up the excess nutrients way more than live rock ever will.
Modified Berlin method . Skims rarely but the rest is the same. Looks great.
I had never heard of that method before, but yeah looks like that’s what I’m doing! Thank you, learned something new!! 🙌
I started with the Berlin method 35 years ago of reef keeping but I did later go with the sump after a few years.
@@geoffhunt7965awesome, what made you add a sump?
@@DannysAquariums Old tank syndrome and at the time it seemed like I was advancing with the equipment. Berlin method was one of the first around and there were under gravel filters and then canisters and then sumps.
@@geoffhunt7965I did Berlin method in the mid-nineties. Eventually I added reef mud with a blanket of sawblade caulerpa. These days I run only chaeto. But I don’t do socks and my skimmer is on a timer. Natural is best!!!
What lighting schedule are you using?
Is this minimalist setup suitable for beginners?
The 2 people I watch in regards to reefing on RUclips have met lol
I have been reefing since 2011, and have always done this method with my nano tanks that don't have a lot of fish. Getting equipment that doesn't take away from the image tank is so hard when you don't have that much room to begin with. It is much simpler to do regular water changes until you get some real stability and then do maintenance as necessary. Cool to see him doing it big with 40G. This is awesome, the hobby has come so far. Inspires me to give it a go with a 40B or maybe a 75G
I’ve got a 125 gal reef tank I’d never dream of operating it without the filtration system I have
@@thatstonerr7738 for me it depends on the bio load. I’ve run tanks with just coral and inverts and have had great success with just a heater and powerhead near the surface tumbling the water. I also have a 6 gallon cube I am currently running with a pair of clowns and come coral and all it has is a heater and a Seachem tidal HOB with some filter floss, the tidal is a great HOB, good sized media compartment and it actually skims the surface of the water.
I noticed they didn’t show the dosing systems. This is equipment so I wish they would have shown the setup on the back of the tanks. In your experience Do you have any idea how big the dosing systems are and what they look like? I thought dosing systems required water and either in a sump or inline with water filtration?
Hey Fragbox, what can i use to get rid of my bubble algae, ive tried manual removal , and an emerald crab and im losing the battle bad, please help before it consumes my tank , thank you
Same concept as planted nature aquariums. Filter isn't needed but I like the added mechanical filtration
Coming from a planted background myself and wanting to get into saltwater tanks, I always felt so confused and frustrated by all the technology and gadgets all the reefers mentioned. I’m glad I’m starting to see videos like this with a more friendly and simplified approach to reefs and saltwater
What is the water capacity of the tanks?
Yup y’all need a larger tank option ! 9:36
1 year ago i showed this tank to my local store owner
And to this day he still can't accept the fact that this tank doesn't have any filter 😂
I did not realize you can have your dosing lines below the water surface, how is that done properly?
It’s not optimal! :) Sometimes it clogs up, best is to have it above the water. But I haven’t found the right holder for it yet, since there’s only 1-2cm between the water level and the top of the glass.
🤘🏼🤘🏼
why would he need it when his tanks arent over stocked. He has massive amounts of coral which pulls inorganic and organic nutrients like crazy. If it was a full-on acro SPS tank then maybe i would say WOW
I only use real sea water too it’s the best it’s the real thing
Fragbox should definitely come out with larger tanks. 40 to 60 gallon
Shipping small glass aquariums is proving hard enough 😆
but something is in the work
Sand is spotless goals unless he cleaned it right before video lol
Also great tik tok content
It doesn’t get much dirtier than this :)
@@DannysAquariums Yep I've seen your content it's great, only issue I have is Dino's but it's a nitrate and phosphate imbalance other than that corals are all doing fine and growing.
👌🔥💯✌️
Amazing . It’s a closed system though . It will collapse. Nature cannot be replicated .
what power head does he have in his main tank?
MP10 & Nero 3
siuuuuuuu
the setups are definitely unique to him. not the way i do it. the coral colors are dull in my opinion. but that’s the way he does it
look at my nano reef simple too!!!!
so this is really a low tech tank without any filter????? i think i am going to start one now if that is real
Why does he have his dosing lines underwater?
He just did a big water change for the video 😊
some people do that so they wont clog at the tips, as long as its peristaltic dosing, shouldnt be an issue
Because I need a different tube holder haha.
The secret is he has a very small amount of small fish
I did not hear the part where he speaks of water changes.
Hmm not sure if we discussed that, but no worries! I do one small water change once a month. 1-2 gallons of each tank while I vacuum the sand bed.
Well 2 clown and a chromis don’t need much filtration. Basically the corals and live rock support themselves
Yup! That’s exactly how it works. :)
I did add a few other fish to the aquarium shortly after we filmed this, I was not having enough nutrients haha. There are now 2 clowns, 5 chromis, 1 nano goby and a royal gramma in here.
Setup costs
He is doing massive water changes. And is feeding very light.
1-2 gallons of water once a month. So for the big tank that comes down to a 5% water change, massive! 🫣
@@DannysAquariums haha! 🥊 jab back!
@@DannysAquariums😆 Awesome
Music too loud
Meaning it’s no secret. No I would not call that a lot.
That’s how it goes they look great they prosper for awhile then all it takes is one parameter spike to crash that entire system lol doesn’t have the correct amount of rock doesn’t have the correct amount of substrate the stability of this tank would be trash I’ve seen so many try this method then come back months later even years later saying they’re system crashed and they lost everything mainly due to not having that biological filtration/bacteria production that comes with deep substrates lol like come on guys this is silly
I’m so glad this hobby has people like you, we need more people like you that know everything! Your tank seems to be perfect! 🙌
Did you hear the part on how old the tank is ? Are you saying Bio media is superior to live rock ?
@@fragboxcorals I misspoke there I’m saying that live rock will always be superior to just standard bio media but my point that I’m trying to drive here is that with substrates you house a vast majority of your biological life right so not just bacteria which is crucial to cycling but copepods bristle worms room for snails to burrow but most importantly the more substrate the better biological filter you will have outright in your tank I see a lot of folks throw a tank together with a few inches worth of substrate on the bottom that’s garbage I’d always reccomend atleast 6-8 inches of substrate potentially more considering the size of the tank some would say that way to much substrate but I promise the stability it will provide any system it’s undeniable and you can confirm yourself right just as anyone set yourself up a new 40g tank right throw in enough substrate to use up about 6-8 inches and then run 2lbs of rock per gallon so throw 80 pounds of rock in doubt you’d even need filtration on that tank at that point params will always be perfect Try deep substrates are king
@@thatstonerr7738Successful bare bottom SPS tanks must drive you absolutely nuts then. Little rock, NO substrate… man 😵.
@@DannysAquariums I mean don’t get me wrong my way is not absolute you almost seem triggered like I attacked you and that wasn’t my goal I was merely stating that having deeper substrates results in a larger biological filter within your tank without running a sump obviously a sump with gravel and shit tons of live rock would be the most ideal filtration but yes you are correct systems can run without substrates but you can hopefully acknowledge that yes that possible and can be done that stability of the tank can be affected via params like nitrite nitrate my argument is solely for stability of the ecosystem man I never stated to have all the info ever only anecdotal experience on my end and info from others in the hobby with many many more years of knowledge and experience than me 🤷♀️ good luck to ya man I hope you learn to take constructive criticism better in the future it will help out the hobby greatly take it easy
Sponsored by Fritz salt and sponsored by BRS for the wavepumps & lights 🙄
Yes, they are my sponsors. What’s your point?
The guy doing interview is annoying. Danny you a Fantastic great guy! You obviously know what you are doing without the opinions of the interviewer. Keep doing your amazing work Danny! Beautiful ❤
Lol welcome to Fragbox TV.
@fragboxcorals must not know who you are March, lol
@@86kevinjohnsonwho cares who “March” is… he is annoying!
😳😳 hater
never had that feeling in this video. He never forced any opinion on him. And the hobby is after all all about exchange of experience and knowledge. @@michaelcoffey2314
Lol. Secrets….. lots of maintenance.
Once a week I scrape of some algae of the glass and once a month I do a very small water change, call that lots of maintenance? 😂
Quick question if you have the time. Apart from the regular water changes once a month, what do you do with the algae that comes out when you scrape it off the glass? Do you siphon it out with water or manually remove it without the water?
$20,000 in aquariums sleeps on air mattress
That’s no air mattress lol.
20 thousand dollars where bro ? Thats like 5k absolutely max
So in other words he has a company for a monthly fee come out once a week and change water run levels etc. He doesn't do shit nor know shit. He's not a reefer. Shame
How did you come to that conclusion? This might be the dumbest thing I’ve heard so far. 😂
No company or anyone else comes to work on my tanks, I do it by myself. I don’t test my water, neither does anyone else do it for me. I’d say I’ve gained quite some knowledge over the past years that allows me to keep reef tanks by myself lol, I suggest you take a look at the channel as I’ve documented everything! Good, bad and the ugly.
@DannysAquariums my bad if you're hands on. Looked like a crazy operation for one man. But congrats
I was drinking that night I saw this lol
@@kylethiede9463thanks, yep.. all by myself. Barely any work, algae scraping the glass once a week and a small monthly water change to keep the sand clean (gravel vac). That’s all the work they require really! 🙌
Dumb as hell. These no water changes, no filter guys never quit. Lazy reefing is bad reefing and not for long term success. Bad for the hobby.
Why is it dumb? Why is long term success not possible? And how is it bad for the hobby to showcase people that you can keep a reef tank without making it super complicated, which often keeps people away from this hobby?
@@DannysAquariumsdont worry danny, i bet this guy doesn't even have a tank lol
What's a centimeter? 🙄 this guy doesn't know nothin
