I'm actually shocked that there was no 90s direct-to-video F4 movie where Mel Gibson dressed as an evil alien scientist Galactus upon stranding in San Francisco just picks a random actual surfer named Norrin "Rad" Duffy from California to be his herald!
With the news that Franklin Richards will appear and the chatter about Javier Bardem being cast as Galactus, I think we are getting the Earth X story with a Galactus that eats universes instead of planets.
There's no reason to get upset or boycott anything etc cuz it's not the version that's familiar. All you have to do is consume media that vibes with you. And don't if you don't. At the end of the day the companies that produce this media do it for profit. And they are looking to maximize. So just don't buy what you don't like. And if other people do buy, then this isn't for you.
It seems pretty clear from this announcement that they are doing the into the spiderverse thing of you can tell it's another universe because this villain is a different gender
If they're gonna do a Norrin-Rad that's close to Julia Garner's age, I propose Lakeith Stanfield. Guy's very talented and can do calm, zen and philosophical. Also he has a very good deep voice. He'd be terrific imo.
Just switching the gender for no reason doesn't make sense, especially when they could just use Frankie Raye as a replacement for Surfer and have that as the female Herald angle.
I feel like the Fantastic Four are going to lose and either 1. They all die and our FF are going to be different actors or 2. They escape their universe as Galactus devours earth and stoping Galactus from devouring the main Earth becomes Reed's obsession
Fantastic Four is also looking like it will be set in the 60s, so if the MCU introduces a Norrin Radd into the present day main continuity universe later, they could end up going with an older actor. Of course if they plan to have a Shalla Bal of the main universe also appear in some way, that wouldn't be great, unless they also recast Shalla for the main universe
I was initially skeptical, and a bit upset, by this leak when it happened months ago. But honestly, I think learning yesterday that they are doing a completely different character who has the mantle, makes me totally fine with it.
Seems like a lot of mental gymnastics to get to what will eventually be the “real” Silver Surfer. And also a somewhat antagonistic decision in regard to the long time fans that have been waiting for this character to get his due since the second Fox FF movie.

Just imagining her from Ozark but all space-ified and with the stakes being planetary annihilation instead of money laundering......... I'm in. I'm sold. 1000x more than Anya Taylor Joy. Maybe, I'm confusing this, but could she be Frankie Raye as the Herald? Maybe, I forgot the cartoon, but I could have swore she replaced Norrin at a time.
Ok so a few doubts. There is a subtle difference between blatant gender swapping and alternate version and completely nrw character. Does shalla bal has exact same orgin story as Radd? Is it also the case in the comics. If yes, then its an alternate version where silver surfer was female. If not, nd they have done this specifically fr the MCU, then it's swapping. If it's a completely different character who has a different origin story and Radd also has a role to play in that, then it's a completely different character. So which one do u guys think it is???
They have the same origin, Radd offered himself up to Galactus to save Shalla and his planet, so just have her do it instead in the FF universe. It's like Sharon Carter jumping into the machine over Steve in What If.
@@andrewshandle hey man thanks for replying. Ok so then there is surely a Radd In this universe also. He will probably be the prince of the plane they live on? Coz that's what shalla bal is in comics 616 ryt?
I think that people hold on to “canon” so tight that they become personally offended when a studio does something they don’t like. Whether it’s swapping or a different character, why is it worth losing one’s mind over?
@@funkysam1345 so I haven't read SS #1 in decades, but I thought she became royalty later? At the start of her story she was basically like Radd's emotional support puppy, because apparently they pair grieving people up with happy people on their planet. So there's a lot they can do with the characters to make them _both_ more interesting regardless of which one is the SS in either universe.
@@fredskull1618 "fans" tend to only really care in certain cases though, they'll gladly ignore 100 cases were canon is broken but then lose their minds and send death threats to Idris Elba for getting cast in a minor role in Thor claims canon was broken.

I'll bet money they do what they did in Marvels and have this Surfer plops in main MCU and sees her (she thought) dead lover and is like :0 CREDITS It won't hit as hard but there it is.
Using an existing character and repurposing them into a role they weren’t originally for is an angle I can get behind… I’m still a little concerned about how they’ll write a story where 3 men will have to fight a woman. Sue I’m not worried about, Hollywood just seems to have a problem writing male hero vs female villain.
A woman with the power cosmic is not a woman, she's a goddess. It's just a matter of clearly establishing how overpowered she is. Nobody cared when Thor and Loki tried to fight Hela.
@@marcelo-ramos I went back to make sure I didn’t misremember and I forgot that Thor gets a pretty decent stab at the start of their second fight but otherwise nothing beyond a couple blink and you miss it hits that do nothing and Loki never actually engages her (he does throw a knife once). She’s absurdly powerful, but effectively hitting the villain with pillows is not a template I would want for movies going forward. Edit: although now that I think about it a lot of recent MCU fight scenes have felt like that…
The one point I'd argue is I thought the Rex surviving a headshot was a pretty brilliant twist because it's pretty true to life to what often happens - head is not a good target if you want to expire your target, heart is much more effective. So it's not really a freak consequence, it's actually what could happen in real life - pretty cool detail for those of us with experience in trauma.
Its not sexist to want faithful, non woke characters and movies. And "those fans" are the majority of fans and the ones that made this franchise what it is. Liberals entire personality is woke politics so practice keeping it to yourself.

SS will be genderless guaranteed! Doesn’t matter if SS is played by a man or woman or trans. It makes SO MUCH SENSE for Marvel to do this, all things considered. There’s no reason for a herald of Galactus to be anything but genderless. I’m not only totally fine with it, but I love this idea for the character! It’s smart, it’s progressive, and it’s simple.
But, the Silver Surfer isn't just the herald of Galactus. They were a person before that, its not just some shell created by Galactus, so why would they be genderless? I love alternate versions of characters. Especially since Silver Surfer has already appeared on film (and was the only thing I enjoyed about FF2).
I hope to see other Herald's get their time in the spotlight if F4 is successful like the Fallen One or Fire Lord.
Yes I think that's the point. Gender swapping and switching roles seem very similar unless we go back to the source material. If they had particularly invented a female silver surfer out of thin air specifically for the movie, then it would have been odd. But she Exists in comics. The question is, is her origin story the exact same as Radd? Or is there something different to her personal lore? Is Radd crucial to her origin story? If yes, then they might be introducing him also
“Lakeith” woulda been such a Unique a different choice man. Goddamnit. I’m still happy with the choice though.
He's my choice for Norrin /Silver Surfer
His role in "Get out" is literally How Norrin acts until hes taken out of his "Herald" trance from Galactus
You can see his robotic stance until Reed snaps him out and he freaks out just like his character did with Chris
Pedro is going to be the Maker.
What If the fantastic 4 are from 616 but in the 60s Reed got them suck in an alternate universe in whatever event gave them their powers? Then they could have this alternate universe story but when they join 616 they're actually from there
Ooh, I’ve never heard of Earth X, I should check that out!
Her Figure means we won’t have an embarrassment with a skin tight silver coating
I'm actually shocked that there was no 90s direct-to-video F4 movie where Mel Gibson dressed as an evil alien scientist Galactus upon stranding in San Francisco just picks a random actual surfer named Norrin "Rad" Duffy from California to be his herald!
Dang, I saw the cartoon Silver Surfer show. I liked Norrin Radd and his story.
If you are thinking about stopping Galactacus from eating your planet, you are going to have to FUCKING KILL MEEEEEEEEEE
I think Dev Patel would make a fantastic Norrin Raad. He also has experience with Ralph Ineson who’s playing Galactus so I think that would be cool.
It seems pretty clear from this announcement that they are doing the into the spiderverse thing of you can tell it's another universe because this villain is a different gender
the music in the background was really distracting. the guitar(?) twang stood out too much compared to your talking
Nando, I love all your videos, but the background music in this video was driving me crazy. X(
I always thought Julia Garner would be the perfect casting for Boom Boom from the X-FORCE.
If they're gonna do a Norrin-Rad that's close to Julia Garner's age, I propose Lakeith Stanfield. Guy's very talented and can do calm, zen and philosophical. Also he has a very good deep voice. He'd be terrific imo.
At this point it feels like Marvel is trolling the trolls. 😊
"Trolling" is funny way to say going bankrupted.
Just switching the gender for no reason doesn't make sense, especially when they could just use Frankie Raye as a replacement for Surfer and have that as the female Herald angle.
The Activists at Disney can knock themselves out and keep losing money for the company.
Anya Taylor Joy needs to return as Magik in the Midnight Suns.
boring comment, but the guitar sound in this vid is a bit distracting
Ok is this supposed to be a fantastic four origin story? Or something else?
And is there a difference between Shalla bal and Juno?
It's not a origin. They're already established.
@@jamespope7669 but I guess all of us wanted a proper origin story ryt? Like that's what we trusted Marvel Studios with ryt? That they'll do justice to the first family
@@funkysam1345no? Everyone knows there origin and it’s been adapted on screen twice. Not doing the origin doesn’t equate to not doing them justice
@@themoosehoof fair enough. But I'm not sure if EVERYONE knows their origin. Don't forget new audiences. But, still they have to go ahead with the storytelling in such a way, that audiences are still able to connect
@@themoosehoof bcoz even though it's not a typical origin story, it's still an introduction. Nd u can't just jump right in nd leave the Audience clueless
It bein Shalla is fine since she has been in SS in another universe - elseworld story. Disney knew keeping vague would get lotta buzz. They coulda gave context out the bat
Allred's art is so damn cool.
Honestly interested to see where this goes.
My out of pocket choice for Silver Surfer has been, and always will be Steve Buscemi. Not for any good reason mind you, I just want him to do that. I'm also still holding out for a Burn Gorman Namor, but I like the new direction with him, so here's hoping this casting pick is similarly intriguing!
I think she will just be the regular surfer. They'll will most likely be multiversal figures, i hope
I feel like Shalla being the Surfer if anything lends credence to the fact the film's in an alt universe which has been the big rumor mill about the story. If anything they might be using her to do the classic Surfer origin where it's her accepting the Power Cosmic to protect Radd and become a herald for Galactus, so when the F4 are in the main MCU by the end, maybe the implication is in this universe, it's Norrin and they won't have to retread the origin again if that's the case
But why not just do the origin with him the the first place
@@Boatanga Doesn't really matter. It's not like the gender of the character was super important in the first place as long as the story behind it stays the same. All you need to know is that it's a herald of Galactus saving their own world by telling him to eat other ones and that's basically it
Yes I think that's the point. If yes, then they might be introducing him also
@@icedcapplord710 I mean yeah, but I do kinda like the silvery masculine design of Norrin's SS. But its also annoying to just throw away Norrin in favor of his girlfriend, as if he was never was the Silver Surfer. The best way I can describe it is like making Betty Ross the Hulk for the MCU, so I do think it matters.
it would be better that the F4 with doom was actually in the mcu way back in the day but they went to space and something happened that landed them in a alternate universe and all that was kept secret by shield cause as Tony said Fury's secrets had secrets lol and they had not figured out away to get back for years until now maybe a post credit scene or something
Julia Garner also from The Americans!
Nando, what’s your opinion on LaKeith Stanfield saying “I thought it was going to be me”. Do you think he could still potentially be the Norrin Radd in the MCU and be a gods Silver Surfer?
Either he was already cast and was confused or he didn’t get it and now won’t sense he’s talked about it
@@themoosehoof he did delete it, so if he was still cast maybe it was cleared up with him, and if he wasn’t maybe he realized he screwed himself
Don't mean to be dramatic but these are the most important videos on all of The Internet
A female Silver Surfer? Ohhhhhhhhh, that explains that loud high-pitched noise I heard floating over the moors a couple days ago. Twas the impotent squealing of the angry manboys.
I think Anya Taylor-Joy not being the pick could be due to the uncertainty around Dune: Messiah's filming schedule.
Having watched Ozark I'm just looking forward to seeing Julia Garner play the character. She's so intense in that show I have no doubt she could crush a Silver Surfer character. Just as long as they write it the right way for her. She doesn't need to be bouncing around having a good time when she's got scowls that could crush a hole straight through a planet. Just imagining her from Ozark but all space-ified and with the stakes being planetary annihilation instead of money laundering......... I'm in. I'm sold. 1000x more than Anya Taylor Joy. Who is a perfectly fine actress but she gets plenty of headlines already. Give Julia Garner a chance to burn the whole place down. She absolutely could do it if they give her a chance. I just hope that they do
Anya Taylor Joy refused the Surfer role. That is why Julia Garner has the role.
The background music was pretty distracting in this one. The guitar strum hits too hard 😂
Yes. Listening for a bit while multitasking and had to come back to computer to see if i accidentally had another window open playing an annoying ad or something with music.
1:33 Tyros "the Tamer" of Lanlak
This all just seems unnecessary setting the FF up in another universe and confusing for general audiences
“I think she’s a *solid* actor”
*3 time Emmy winner…*
Yes she a good actor but this is marvel script nothing serious
I'm fine with this choice so long ad Jason Bateman gets to play Galactus
I think the casual comic reader or casual MCU watcher will have an open mind, as none of this is so precious that changes can’t be made. I always wonder if there is a majority of neurodivergence in the “die-hard fan” community because they get WAY too heated about anything resembling change.
We need you to talk about the teen titans movie that was announced please I’ve been waiting and waiting…
I honestly like the name of Starglow for ShallaBal
The problem with this choice is kids will think the original Silver Surfer is Shala-Bal, not Norin Radd. The implication is the issue I have.
@The Nando Cut you should be proud of this comments section. Even when disagreeing, people are respectful and insightful. At least compared to other channels take on these news, where the comments section is just depressing. It shows you atract the right kind of intelligent people.
I'm not surprised?
I think we’re reading wayy too much into it, she’s thee Silver surfer of the MCU, not for the moment
I just assumed they were gonna have it be Shala Bal that made the deal with Galactus in the other universe that The FF comes from. Doesn't have to be more complicated than that.
I don't get why people are hating this.
It’s a little weird but it’s that lame part of the fandom so it’s not surprising. If they said her name was Norrina Radd or some shit then sure, I’ll get the outrage.
Right? A female surfer is going to be hot.
@@JoshV_TXsame here, I'm just confused about it
@@antarchy1 AWOOOGA
Probably a mix of genuine Norrin Radd fans who wanted to see their favorite be in the MCU, and people who think it's "woke".
Maybe, I'm confusing this, but could she be Frankie Raye as the Herald? Maybe, I forgot the cartoon, but I could have swore she replaced Norrin at a time.
Variant. Hai everyone
Its gonna be ok. Shalla will just shake it off
Ok so a few doubts.
And she had that role for years as he was moody and studied.
Everyone who is mad about a female casting... I want you to give me the Silver Surfer's actual name without looking it up. Also, why can't it be Frankie Raye?
Anya I still want her as emma frost .
I'll bet money they do what they did in Marvels and have this Surfer plops in main MCU and sees her (she thought) dead lover and is like :0 CREDITS
It won't hit as hard but there it is.
If Juno, Juno
The possibility I hear nobody throwing out there is that Silver will be played by a woman, but the character won't be a woman.
They do.
Edit: although now that I think about it a lot of recent MCU fight scenes have felt like that…
I know a lot of stuff in comics doesn't really make sense but that illuminatrix stuff is just makes no sense at all
The one point I'd argue is I thought the Rex surviving a headshot was a pretty brilliant twist because it's pretty true to life to what often happens - head is not a good target if you want to expire your target, heart is much more effective. So it's not really a freak consequence, it's actually what could happen in real life - pretty cool detail for those of us with experience in trauma.
Should’ve saved her for rogue
Its not sexist to want faithful, non woke characters and movies. And "those fans" are the majority of fans and the ones that made this franchise what it is. Liberals entire personality is woke politics so practice keeping it to yourself.
No tharaxx the tamer name is Tyros
Terrax. How do you know his real name, but not his herald name? 😅 jk.
@@marcelo-ramos don't know 😂😂😂
@@marcelo-ramos I just remember him a lot because he the only Harald of Galactus that evil that needs no brainwashing
I think they did it to show the FF are in a different universe and we'll get Radd in the mainline MCU...of course some people are predictably losing their minds over it anyway.
Cool video, but that guitar strumming in the background is really annoying
terrax is his real name... terrax john mancuso, actually
BRO WHEN ARE YOU GONNA TALK ABOUT THE TEEN TITANS
Ah! I like it more if it is Shalla Bal who becomes the Surfer instead of Norinn in a sort of What If? way.
But then why not make that a What If? Why change this iconic character into being the identity of another one?
Just keep him a man💀💀💀
SS will be genderless guaranteed!
Yeah it would be cool if when they get on the board they just become like a shell that looks kinda human with no obvious gender that would be awesome
But, the Silver Surfer isn't just the herald of Galactus. They were a person before that, its not just some shell created by Galactus, so why would they be genderless? I mean, they don't have genitalia when they transform but that's more for censorship. It doesn't really make any sense nor is it a simple idea, and I don't see how its progressive.
@@MonkeykingJack I'd honestly hate that, the Surfers design is easily one of his strongest attributes so changing that in any way is a no go. I'd rather they just use the Fox FF's Silver Surfer design, or something very close.
