I fixed the door contact part by adding pieces of electrical tape between the two catches. My thought process was that somewhere in the middle of actuation of the switch, it reads as door being open. So adding tape prevents it ever pressing the switch down far enough. I added 6 layers as a small piece and it works great now!
Not sure if you have this camera still, but perhaps a bit of electronic contact cleaner on the dial should do the trick. As for the CF door, it's a common issue with this particular model. Ditch using CF all together and solely use the memory stick slot. You can use micro SD cards with this camera by using several adaptors. Read and write speeds will be exponentially better than using CF.
Have the same camera … purchased it new back in the day and still have it. I remember Sony doing a couple of software updates to it early on. Looks to me like you’re having software problems with the mode settings. You might check the firmware version and see if you can find a newer version on the internet. Seems like the CF card issue is a mechanical one. The door might be misaligned and touching one of the contacts. Good luck … it’s really a great camera and fun to use in the world of mirrorless 50 megapixel cameras.
I got the F828 back in the day when it came out and paid $1500 for and I loved it....but sold it two years later....anyway even alog these years I got other better cameras but it always rested in my hart.....forward to 2022 and I found one like new on the Internet marketplace for $100 with spare battery, filters, carying case 2GB CF Card......Everything works flawlessly ! Unfortunately for you the Guy lied to you and sold you a damaged camera.......I hope you'll be able to repair it and enjoy it because it is a really special camera ! GOOD LUCK
Recently got this beauty and it’s a gem for 70 bucks its takes pride of place in my Sony collection, the rendering of colours is superb, pictures are vibrant and crisp. It’s a very versatile camera and great to walk with albeit a little bulky but who cares when you can crank out some great pics, pictures are always subjective but to me i love what this camera can do even in 2022, no camera out today will blow this camera away and nor should it because at the end of it all photography is a subjective labour of love, a shame you had said problems perhaps you could you Sony Memory Stick as it has two card slots, a fidgety dial is a little harder to repair good luck!

It is recorded as "black" with date and time. Did I accidentally change something? Do you have any ideas? Thank you.
Try to return it or get the money back, this is bad. I have 2 of those and they are my favorite of all my cameras. The colors and clarity of the pictures is stunning.
hi... my CF Card door issue started behaving the same way out of the box when I bought back in August 2004. he guy who sold it to you is not at fault, when it comes tp the CF card/door issue mode selector, he lied about that. of you ever found a solution to the CF card issue, can you please send mean update?? Con desarmar muy pocas piezas de la f 821 y limpiarla con limpia contactos.....te va a quedar como nueva. Es una camara antigua y sus contactos deben haber estado expuestos a humedad, reitero, con una limpieza cuidadosa del selector y del censor de puerta abierta (CF), como así también los contactos de los "flex" y sus zocalos, te va andar bien. La Sony DSC F-828 fue en su momento (2003) una camara tope de gama dentro de las camaras "Bridge" y tiene un CCD único, el que nunca mas volvió a fabricarse. Felicitaciones por la compra, no tiraste tu dinero.
I paid about $275 all in but it includes tons of accessories and batteries and filters and such so it wasn't as bad a deal as that sounds. I haven't gotten it fixed unfortunately, for now I've just stuck to using an 8GB Memory Stick haha
Your CF card door contact is part of the top catch . It's a silver square thing which the plastic catch on the door pushes in when it closes

I just resurrected mine after about 15 years of being dormant and I am having issues with the mode knob. It was perfect when I put it into storage.

I think it was dropped at some point and fell on that side, it seems the contacts are damaged and that's why it behaves like that.

How much did you pay for yours? Were you able to get it fixed?
