Silent Mobius is much more important to Japanese media than us westerners think. The manga was one of the first stories ever published that features an all girl action squad. The way the story focused on each of the girls' backgrounds, as well as the cool, Blade Runner inspired cyberpunk vibe made Silent Mobius a sort of cult sensation in Japan back in the early 90's. While it never got the popularity it deserved, Silent Mobius can still be credited for influencing media titans such as Sailor Moon in manga, or Sakura Wars in gaming.

@@priscillaasagiri4913 I forgot to write "published in English". Yes, those titles came out before Silent Mobius, albeit only as anime. If there's something new Silent Mobius brought to the table was a more philosophical narrative and the then-new "insecure main girl" who happens to become the most badass member of the team after an epiphany (Sailor Moon, Sakura Shinguji, etc.). In fact, upon watching the series, you may notice that the main girl's character arc is quite similar to that of Neo's in "The Matrix".

You can't go to Kowloon Walled City anymore. The gov'ment came n tore it all down. Used to be a military fort. It was basically a lawless zone. There's documentaries out there about it. Pretty much the height of urban myth at this point.

my heart soared when you mentioned moon but then plummeted when you said boku no natsuyasumi wrong lmao. i can’t help but wonder how much more you’d appreciate these games if you put in the time to learn jp properly. i recently played through bokunatsu 1-4 and they were all an absolute blast

If you're into weird and strange Japanese PS1 games I highly recommend getting a Sega Saturn. There are a ton of strange, forgotten, bizarre and just truly weird Japanese games that are fantastic and silly.

Boy oh boy, was I in for a treat. I absolutely love your videos on weird/obscure PS1 games and this one was just as good as always. Boku no Natsuyasumi looks gorgeous. I'll definitely be checking that one out. Also, that transition at 7:35 was smooth as silk. Some real elegant stuff and it sets the tone for the video very nicely. And you even made the music for it? Damn. I'll definitely be checking out those sick tunes too.

Fantastic video as always! I like to learn about obscure and unique games but I don't look into the Japan only ones much as I get kinda sad I won't be able to properly appreciate them, so I never looked further than the box art for Boku No Yatsunasumi but that aesthetic was so well done, glad a 3DS game of theirs got localised, I think I'll pick it up now.

This reminded me of the times when we used to play Choro Q Marine (which we called Qitit cuz it's what it says on the cover if you're 8 years old and/or don't know japanese) and we didn't care what the menus said, we'd still go at it and crash them cruisers on to everything. I somehow got to understand certain hidden mechanics and ways to get more boats without using cheat codes and it made me feel like a fucking wizard. To this day, I don't know how or why a japanese-only game about crazy boat racing got copied and sent to South America.
    All hail PS1 chipping.

I love your weird PS1 Japan exclusive videos!!!
'Lisa Cubed's full title is 'Linda Cube Again' (the Again is only written in katakana though). I'm so psyched that it's getting a fan translation -- it looks so bizzarely cool! It was orginally a PC Engine game (thus the pixel art rpg) that was so violent it had an 18+ rating. The PS1 port sensored the violence but added the cool anime cutscenes. It was later remade for the Sega Saturn as Linda³ Complete Edition with the PC Engine violence intact as well as all the graphical upgrades and cutscenes from the PS1, and some more material - I hope this version is the one they're translating.... though it seems like the last info on the translation I can find is from november of last year, it's on the back burner for the cool people working on it (see here: www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=17148.80 ).
Silent Mobius is actually from a larger '90s multimedia franchise, from which the manga and anime were released with an English translation in the west, based on a 12 volume manga by Kia Asamiya. Apparently he's writing a new sequel manga that is still running today. Emotion was one of Bandai Visual's anime licensing and distribution labels. At the time, Bandai probably didn't think that the western market was viable for this game as anime was still a fairly niche market (this was before the Pokemon boom and anything besides DBZ and Sailor Moon having wide name recognition, anime aimed at adults was only available via a specialty market where individual 2 episode tapes typically cost about $30USD each!). I'm an old fogey so I remember being super excited when the Silent Mobius anime was released - the whole story is pretty nifty with a mixed team of female police officers who use psychic power, Onmiyodo (Japanese traditional magic - onmiyoji & shrine maiden using paper talismans), and futuristic tech. This team battles Lovecraftian multidimensional threats known as the Lucifer Hawk (summoned by our own mistake in taking resources from their dimension in order to fix our pollution and climate change problems). It's pretty cool!
Lebia's name can also be accurately written as Rebia or Revia as Japanese does not have a separate 'R' and 'L' sound (it's kind of a mix between the two). 'R' is the more common transliteration while 'L' is often used to look cool (think Mortal Kombat using 'K' rather than 'C'). Her last name probably is Maverick, but with that 'L' replacement to look cool, at least to a native Japanese speaker.
Seriously though, look up the opening theme from the anime -- Kidan no Panse is AMAZING!!!
