You need to work especially hard on yourself to learn dat Japanese tho. I can imagine their frustration if those games was their only motivation lol, but it's pretty strange to get mad on translation teams because of that for sure.
Ah yeah, and the term EOP, or "english only peasant", is thrown there alot, to show how they're superior for being able to "enjoy the game as it should be". They sure are lovely people.
The late 90’s and early 2000’s had such an aesthetic vibe. I really don’t know how to put it other then that; it’s just so “aEsThEtiC.” You do such a wonderful job pointing out it’s beauty. Please never stop.
Early 3d had a unique charm. I think a lot of it comes down to how new and unestablished it was. Similar to how vintage computers, before the typical IBM standard were incredibly interesting with so many unique designs. As the tech became more established it definitely became better overall but lost a lot of charm. Same with games, a lot of early 3d were jank and borderline unplayable but oozed originality and charm. Modern games have well established mechanics to build on so are generally more solid and playable but lack some of the character and uniqueness.
@arbereshe less than you think, at least the actual good ones. Racing is actually pretty poor once you run out of the classics such as Sega Rally and Daytona, and those have not aged well. Good 2D platformers are just a few, as well as 3D fighting games (the best were released in english). Beat'em ups, shmups and 2D fighters, yes, those are very much worth it
Whenever I see your videos this deep desire I've had for years (to learn japanese) comes up... it would probably take 5 years of all my freetime to read basic elementary school kanji, read hiragana and katakana fluently and understand the language in general. Then again I also hope that google translate deep learning advances far enough in the next 5 years that it can do all of that without me having to do anything because let's be honest I'm a lazy bum and dedicating 5 years to learn a language just to understand 20+ year old videogames doesn't seem like the best motivation.
How much free time do you have? If it takes 5+ years then you honestly just aren't actually trying properly. Basic elementary school Kanji is reasonably achievable in 3-6 months.

PS 18:32 the picture on the ship looks like a damn Spinel from Stovon Onovorse.
The blue room from another mind looks inspired by twin peaks.
The one time Square actually used FMV and you said "instead" 🤣. Never change.
Saw Tobal in the thumbnail. Clicked.
Tobal 2 is baller. Been playing it on my PS Classic alongside Mizzurna Falls.
Front Mission 2 is masterpiece tier, it has the best story in the franchise.
Well you right about plenty of stuff □ able to pull off overseas. I still need to went through most of their PS1 library that was released worldwide so it's not like my SquareSoft well went dry.
But I'm so glad about dat Front Mission 2 translation (even if it is not fully in game) and that I can finally play it, shit is solid I tell ya :^) So if you someday decide to scratch your Front Mission itch and you don't mind to read dialogue script in between missions, second game is just great, even if a little bit slow.
And again as always, thanks for great videos, Mr. Heels
Yes! I had memories awhile of a polygon rpg/fighter from square but it wasnt Energeiz and I finally found it as Tobal. I liked Energeiz added gameplay but tobal even though still limited its more open
Aye. There was a Tobal 2. Had a disc of demos with it.
It's mad to think how integral to "Big Games" FMV sequences were, in order to sell them, reward the player, and deliver the tone. I guess Metal Gear Solid and Half-Life were the beginning of the end of that short era. I wonder if there'll be a resurgence in them the same way the 8-bit aesthetic came back in a big way?
Chocobo’s Dungeon is so good. I wish Square would give that series far more love than they do.
Retroarch has an autotranslate overlay that kind of works. I've only used it on android. It's probably on PC as well.
I love you more each passing video, but I'm straight so I don't know how to feel about it. I'll keep it platonic for now... :P
That playful callout at the end. Damn.
Thank you for informing me of the Walbaum font.
Yes a new video from my favorite RUclipsr

Looks like Racing Lagoon is getting that translation after all. Hilltop released an early beta patch that translated 5/13 of the game so far
Still waiting on Parasite Eve 1 to be released in the UK, Square. Still god damn waiting.
Whooop! 100k subs hype fam!
i wanted to go to sleep man but now...i have to watch your new vid. it has to be
Finished Sokaigi twice and there is a secret character and i loved it
Don't mind me, I'm just time stamping my favorite part of any video ever 18:00
Front Mission 2 and Alternative are pretty dope and Racing Lagoon is still one of my favorite games. I liked it so much I actually learned enough Japanese to barely be able to navigate the game’s mechanics. I wish they would give that game an HD port. Even a shitty mobile port would be better than nothing as long as it’s in English.
Fwiw, Front Mission 2 got an official English release on the DS.
I love these videos Thor.
i want a episode like this but about enix games if theres enough
I fucking love you high heel Thor
I have been waiting wayyyy longer then 632 days for a racing lagoon translation 🤐😫
