When I started watching the Panzer Bandit section I thought "oh, no, please don't be another person who calls it a simple Guardian Heroes clone" and, thankfully, you did proper research on the game. I should not have doubted you! Great video as usual.
Panzer Bandit looks like something I would've been obsessed with as a kid, I love beat-em-ups in theory but usually find them too cumbersome. And those anime robot aesthetics are awesome!
Panzer bandit is a great beatem up, it's a shame it never made it to USA, I got a copy of panzer bandit about 2 years ago, this game is not cheap but worth it
Seeing the intro Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger mixed with the game footage made me giddy and put a big smile on my face. I'm so glad it turned out to be good; Sentai, Power Rangers, and tokusatsu in general have a big place in my heart. Praise the viewer wheel, its chosen, and the herald of the wheel, Sean Seanson, for bringing these games to a wider audience!
For tokusatsu game in PS1 like Hurricaneger I recommend Kamen Rider Agito. While the game is relatively shallow what really stood out to me is how smooth the animation is as if they're motion captured (or maybe rotoscoped). It's a fun game overall, I feel it's better than other Kamen Rider games on the system that came before or after.
I say this with full sincerity you have legit become my favorite youtuber , you deserve more love dude. I love these videos and you have single handedly nearly doubled my ps1 library
Love this channel (I recently discovered) .. it's so chill and cozy... really helped me go to sleep last night, in the background. And enjoyed actually watching it this morning. Thank you for it and your work! ^_^
Here in Chile, we had a lot of PSX and PS2 Piracy available, you could go to the street market and buy a copy of a game for like 50 cents. So we played lots of japan only videogames and even Japanesse editions of games. Panzer Bandit was great
Nice episode! I never actually played Panzer Bandit, but I recommended it to a friend of mine that loves Guardian Heroes and he ended up loving PB too, so much so that he did a let's play for his channel, I could never have imagined that the two were so closely related and Mad Stalker was involved, which is a game that both me and my friend like.
Honestly my favourite content creator on YT rn. Always make time to watch your uploads, brother. Thank you for giving us this amazing nostalgic content.
was keen to pick up both firemen games - one look at the prices made me reconsider rather quickly! Another brilliant video, with some pretty great picks too :)
Very glad you didn't just dismiss Panzer Bandit as a "Guardian Heroes clone" and actually went in depth on how the two games are very related to each other! Apparently both Panzer Bandit and Guardian Heroes actually started life as remakes of a cancelled Treasure Mega Drive title called "Axion" that was later turned into Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyo Toitsusen. It seems like both games eventually were reworked into their own thing later on in development, the only reason Panzer Bandit gets labeled as a clone is because Guardian Heroes came out first! Also that opening bit about the Negcon support in Side by Side Special 2000, guilty as charged :V
Community pom has a translation now!? Thats amazing! I picked up the game after your video and love it so im excited to check that out. Also that panzer bandit intro is so unabashedly cruel angels thesis, ha!
I adore the ps1 load up sound and I think it was my first nostalgic moment thinking back to teen years of pre/post pub entertainment and always talking with some of the Japanese games we wished we owned. I have so enjoyed these videos to unwind and think back on old mags and illicit looks at games like a Victorian Peepshow gentleman and a ladies ankles
First off, as always, I want to thank you again for making such an amazing video! Very informative and funny. Game 1: I have seen this game (as well as the prequel) so many times, yet I never tried it myself. Game 2: Interesting. Looks like a mix of Virtual On and Iron Soldier. Game 3: Oh man, I have listened to the opening song so, so many times. It's just THAT good! I still have to play the game though... Game 4: Uh, careful. You have the opening there and that might give you trouble. I had the opening of this very game favorited at one point and eventually it the video got deleted by the copyright holders. Game itself looks alright. Kitty spotted at: 45:4449:59 (2 kitties)
You gotta try the Firemen sometime, such a fun way to spend an evening! Hopefully the opening doesn't give me much trouble, but we'll play it fast and loose now and cross out fingers haha. Excellent kitty spotting as always friend! thanks for watching :)
There's something satisfying about firing up one of the games you recommend and finding out that people have worked out a set of achievements for it at Retroachievements (Panzer Bandit, in this case)
RUclips randomly recommended this video to me, and I'm glad I gave it a try! It's fascinating seeing just how many Japanese-only PS1 games there were, and how obscure some of them could get. The fact that you've done *14* of these videos is nuts. Time to go and watch the others once I'm done with this one...
Another cool video Sean, very interesting to see many of these early games in action & they do have some cool ideas/ quirks for there time for sure even if a little dated but still that's what the PS1 is best known for, the experimental nature of the games we get to experience.
Great episode and it's nice to know I've played 3 of these games. Firemen 2: Enjoyed playing this with my Dad, it was amusing discussing the implications of inexplicably maleficent fire. For anyone interested in more firefighting action games I'd highly suggest the recently released Nuclear Blaze(which has a few neat twists) or Firefighter FD18(PS2), a 3D arcade take on the Firemen games which also includes inexplicably malicious fire(including but not limited to possessed T-shirts, cars, factories and robots). I also enjoyed playing Panzer Bandit with my Dad too. Great that you went into the interesting and somewhat recursive influence the game's creators had on Guardian Heroes, most who cover it seem to get the history backwards(which is understandable). And HAMSTER for posterity.
Hola Sean!
After being blessed by the RUclips algorithm nearly six months ago, I've finally caught up in watching all of your wheel videos. Like many before have mentioned, your approach to the shows' formatting is enjoyable, and the depth you reach in your provided thoughts are exceptional, to say the least. Even when many others simply discuss major gameplay aspects, you seem to explore each title's content to the fullest extent, which is as some would say, something I love to see. This comment is already getting lengthy, but there is one small addition I'd like to suggest. For your viewers, it'd be ideal to allow them to better see the possible choices for each wheel in an external file like a public Google doc to avoid suggesting duplicate games. Or, perhaps that's something you've considered before but chose not to do, so as to keep some degree of mystique regarding the wheel. Nevertheless, you've quickly become my favorite content creator, as your output has been consistently great since the very beginning.
Thank you so much for the kind words, really glad you enjoy the videos! I actually have a public google doc for them, I just don't advertise it very often haha I'll try link it below since RUclips has a habit of deleting comments with external links.
I somehow missed this video when it first came out. Pony Canyon has a bit of an interesting history. Not just in bringing Ultima to Japan, but also in the music scene. They got have been around since the 60's, and have produced albums for a lot of artists, such as Miki Matsubara, Yukiko Okada, Hiro Shimono(more known for his Voice Acting), and The Pillows (before they got popular).
The number of great fire fighting games out there will surely surprise everyone. Most of all I want to see what everyone thinks of the protagonist of FD18, who hates journalists.@@noaht2005

As a generic American PlayStation man I thoroughly enjoy this channel. Love the long videos, they have been so relaxing on long plane rides. Keep up the good work!
Instantly *smashed* that like button. Cheers for these videos; one of the best gaming series on RUclips by far. Also, who on *earth* directed that intro animation for The Firemen 2?! It's incredibly unsettling. The way the overly-cheery music starts to warp, the cutaways to shots of the building steadily becoming more ablaze, the children's laughter that becomes drowned out by the sirens of the fire trucks, and the creepy choir "aaah" at the end is just the icing on the cake. A little too effective, if you ask me! Reminds me of something out of those 70s Italian supernatural horror films.
I recently did a speedrun of The Firemen 2, it's a solid game, but you are correct that the cutscenes do really drag on repeated playthrus. Of the just over 40 mins run, literally half is cutscenes, haha.
I'm not sure if these apply, but there's Tenchu: Shinobi Hyakusen, a standalone expansion compiling one hundred user-created levels, also Rittai Ninja Katsugeki - Tenchu 2, or Tenchu 2 for short was improved upon the Western release, as the Japanese version was released after it. Veterans of the US/PAL release will notice the Japanese version is almost like a Redux version in comparison. More textures and objects on stages, improved 3D models, added voices for enemies when no in combat and fine tuning of controls, among others.

Haven't heard about the others, so can't opine there... but Panzer Bandit at least looks fun (ah, the wheel - well, the folks, to be exact - almost provided Policenauts though, hah)!
Late gen PS1 games are always so pretty and impressive looking! Love how the Power Ranger models in the 2002 game have hand poses (probably a mesh that gets swapped out). Thank you Sean for documenting all these cool games I've never heard about!
Thanks for another great video Sean. I got to say after finishing the video I have the urge to play basically every game in it. Maybe playing some Metal Jacket will get me ready for Armored Core 6 who can say
Panzer Bandit looks like a blast! I have no idea why it wasn't released in the West, yet more bizarre (and great) games like Dynamite Heady and Mischief Makers were. PB looks like it could be released today as a budget Arcade title (with a 16:9 option and some graphical clean up).
omg i was not expecting to win it the first time i participate lol, really thank you enjoy the episode a lot and im more happy that you enjoy the game even without being a fan of the franchise, and yes you are correct in everything why i love the game it really is a game made for the fans with love and appreciation shame the other sentai games that came after it were again just low effort cashgrab with dumb minigames. Also i knew you gonna love the soundtrack it is really good, again thank you for showing the game to more people really appreciate your effort.

Probably worth mentioning the inclusion of voice acting is another point for it above the original, although that is mostly lost on non-Japanese players.

Your videos are so good man, keep at it. Hope you can find a way to make this a career, if that's a thing you want, because you definitely have the chops for it.
VERY relieved that the wheel missing Policenauts (!) by a few pixels didn't end up being too bad of an outcome.
When I started watching the Panzer Bandit section I thought "oh, no, please don't be another person who calls it a simple Guardian Heroes clone" and, thankfully, you did proper research on the game. I should not have doubted you! Great video as usual.

I said "ya love to see it" out loud yesterday. Must have been my Seany sense tingling.

My thoughts 2 minutes in:
1. What is that pinball game at 0:26?
2. Aww man, maybe I shouldn't have changed my Japan Only pick off of Firemen 2.
1. Fantastic Pinball Kyutenkai
That Panzer Bandit intro sold me. I was expecting an RPG of some sort but beat em ups are good craic too.
I'm very happy to see someone finally did their research for a video involving panzer bandit instead of just calling it a guardian heroes clone
