I just finished doing this on my "03 Yukon Denali with Bose Stereo. The feedback from XM radio advertisement was much more than I could deal with. I tried just unhooking the connection from the XM module, but then my stereo would not go to the XM station. So instead, I cut the brown & green wires going back to the XM module(pink highlighted area in this video), and works perfect. If the next owner wants to get XM, it won't be that hard to revert this system back. Thank you Andres!
After cutting the 3 wires I expected silence when I turned on the radio, but instead it gave an annoying buzz. I clipped to the wires and played music but the buzz persisted. (Engine off) Anyone else experience this?
Andres, works like a charm. Just an FYI for everyone that follows, if all connections are soldered, the aux/phone signal will always fully override any XM bleed when active. Tried both just as a check. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing that observation. I cut the 3 audio wires but get a distinct and annoying buzz (even with nothing attached and engine off) I'll reconnect XM and try again. I'll be quite happy, but curious why XM would not bleed through especially during quiet passages.
@PaulBhullarSingh , I cut the speaker wires and kept ground in tack, but we get bleed through. Turning up radio helped but I didn't want to hear any bleed through! I will try solder next as the clamping mechanism may not work? Plus, wondering what wire size is supposed to be used. Lastly, those 3.5 connectors need more threads as the plastic cover is too thick.
SUCCESS after reconnecting the XM and tapping in! Yay. I disconnected the XM antenna to prevent bleed through (XM is silent), but I found that it may not even be necessary. I had a CD playing, but when I plugged in to AUX the CD audio muted and only music through AUX played. I knew that XM and CD share the same audio lines, but was surprised that the CD went mute.
I watched a handful of videos about this, but yours was the most descriptive and clear. Thank you! FYI, I had a lot of bleed so I just cut the XM wires. I don't use XM anyway. AND, I used hex nuts to connect the wires. The clam-like connected where the two wires lay next to each other and you use pliers to squeeze down the metal piece into them, thus creating a current. Also, a bit of a rig job, but the AUX input kept slipping in when I would put the 1/8" plug into it, so I pull out the little panel box and stuffed it with thick double-sided tape and now it stays in place when I plug in! Thanks again, Andres.
Phenomenal. Knew it was possible but needed the details. had to buy everything but the soldering iron, so it ran about $20 after buying the jack, the wire, the solder and the splices. 15 minutes later, works PERFECTLY. Tune to 0 on XM and you don't get bleed at any volume. Watched another guy's video first, but he spent most of the time with his hands in front of the wiring as he was splicing. Great of him to try, but wasn't much help. Diagrams, exact instructions and clear video. Really appreciate the effort.
At 3:49 is would have been best to wire a switch that can toggle between XM and the AUX jack wiring so that you can keep both XM and AUX without bleeding. Also for anyone driving a yukon denali, you can get a compsite (red/white/yellow) wire to 3mm audio conversion cable and plug it into the TV in the back seat and set the TV to AUX and select RSE in the front by hitting the CD button twice. This way you can tap into the CAR AUX audio without any soldering or cutting.
Hi Andreś, thank you so much for this video. In the past, I used those FM frequency things to get music from my iPhone or iPod, but since changing vehicles, none would work properly. By using your video, I was able to successfully install the 3.5 mm AUX plug (costing me a whopping $1.21 CDN!) connected through vehicle audio system using the XFM1 channel. Amazon had a great cable for device to vehicle that is Apple certified for $ 18 CAD. I even tried the liquid electrical tape you suggested, that’s great stuff too). Works great and sounds perfect - vehicle has a Bose sound system. The only modification I made was to cut the green and brown striped lines leading to the original vehicle XFM plug, attaching my new plug lines to these (so XFM won’t work, unless reconnected) and run a dedicated ground line to vehicle metal. Great results! Thank you! DS, Surrey, BC, Canada
Did this to my 03 GMC K2500. Works like a champ! The only things I did differently are I used those clamp down connectors to tap into the green/white and brown/white wires so I didn't have to risk dripping or melting something while soldering in my truck(today was the first time I ever used a solder gun). I also bolted the ground to the bare metal right behind the glove box. There is another vid on youtube that shows where to bolt the ground to.
Great video!I was able to find a 3.5MM jack with the wires installed, used 3M Scotch-lok connectors and then disconnected the XM due to bleed through. Real easy.I'd suggest removing the trim before drilling any holes so nothing gets accidentally damaged behind the dash.
Green wire is right speaker and brown wire is left speaker. Ground can be bolted to the metal frame behind the glove box instead. One less wire to splice :)
Word of caution. Leave the black/white wire intact from the XM plug and use a clamp splicer on it. You can cut the two speaker wires if you don't want to use XM (this eliminates the XM bleed through). With my black/white ground wire cut, I had a terrible engine whine coming through that varied with RPM.
Good to know this. I tried grounding the negative alone and had rpm noise. This combination I didn't try yet. if this doesn't hey rid of this noise I will Donnelly not recommend this procedure.
Great video! I followed this and it worked perfectly. However, I recently switched batteries and now nothing works. Before I start tearin stuff apart do you have any suggestions??
any time you tap into a wire that's already carrying another signal (in this case, the xm audio signal) it's a good idea to install a 12v diode on each wire to prevent back flow of signal to prevent the possibility of blowing an audio board by accidentally having both sources on at once.
Pibbles 'n Bits would you care to explain to me more on what you did with this switch and how you did it? i have a 2004 tahoe z71 i am wanting to do this too. i use my XM everyday but also what to have my aux input for my phone and don't want to mess up my xm how is the best way of doing this
I did my 2007 Trailblazer with a bluetooth module. Green is Right channel and Brn is Left channel. Bought a cheap bluetooth module on Amazon. Found 12v with key as i don't want my bluetooth module on all the time.
so, I'm assuming if I do not pay for the XM service but I do have the equipment, I can just disconnect that altogether and splice away for my aux hookup?
This connects to all 4! The wiring is to hook up to left and right channels, which then connects to all your left speakers and all your right speakers.
Hey, awesome video, I used a cat5 cable and a 5 prong connector instead. I soldered and hooked everything up correctly but I'm not getting any sound other than a static coming from my right speaker. Does anyone know what the problem is?
I think to fix the XM bleeding mentioned in the video, simply tune to channel 0 ( the XM radio code) there's and nod no sound on that channel. Just a guess but I think this fix just might help people with XM bleeding problems.
All the other hacks involve opening the unit to connect a bluetooth receiver which is just a little to much trouble. I hope this works for my 06' Suburban cuase otherwise I have to put in a new radio . I got spoiled by my last car , a 98' Expedition which had an aftermarket Sony Xplod with a 3.5 mm jack and I could listen to any song I wanted from my Samsung android anytime for free !
Just want to say, I followed this to a degree... Instead of putting a port in my tahoe, I ran a shielded cable as a temporary patch until I get my aftermarket radio installed. And it works great... until I start the motor. That's when I start getting a popping signal interference in the sound. So this isn't necessarily a perfect fix. Since the cable itself is shielded, I am guessing the signal bleed is at the splice.
This work! Glad I can finally connect my phone, but it seems to have a large amount of alternator whine through the speakers now. Any thoughts on how I can fix? Thanks again for putting this up!
@@mgs205740 I tried adding a ground but it didn't help. What I ended up doing was adding an inline filter that takes out about 90% of the whine. It's good enough for me. :) I really appreciate the help!
That XM unit is your tuner right? Nice video and really good explanation but I want to suggest to the other guys that you can also install a single switch that cuts the aux ground or the tuner's ground in order to avoid that "radio on the back ground" which you were talking about. The ground radio cable to the middle of the switch and the tuner's ground and aux ground to the left and right pin of it ^^
Just completed the install, but I do have a little XM radio faintly bleeding in. How do you totally remove the noise? I know you explained it in the video but I don’t totally understand. Thanks!

I was wondering if I do not need the xm radio could I do the connection right behind the actual radio? Granted I trace all the wires correctly of course.
please answer my question. the end product is exactly what I have shown in my car but when I plug in the aux cord there's a red light that comes on and I think there's a bulb that's blocking. what is that???
Awesome! Doing it tonight on my 03yukon. I had a question though. Can you explain a little bit more about connecting to the yellow and pink highlighting part please. Or maybe send me a close up picture so I know exactly where to connect it. Thank you bro!
Hey there I have a question for you, I located my XM receiver on my 2007 Jeep liberty. It's in the right rear quarter panel are, there is 2 sets of wires, one matches the lug that goes into the back of the radio and one is larger like yours. The is a green and white wire and a brown and white wire on the larger plug. No green and white on the smaller plug. Need to know which one to tep into..thx
Just fixed my engine whine on my 04 Yukon. Been driving me nuts! I had used the clip wire splices first, but the XM was bleeding through. I then cut the wires as shown in the video. No XM bleed through, but I had the whine that fluctuated with RPMs. What I had to do was leave the two speaker wires cut (no bleed) but re attach the black/white ground wire through the XM plug. WHINE GONE! Hope this helps!
Ground your aux port to the body of the XM module, when wired as described in this video you will potentially get horrible signal interference ( that’s what happened to me at least) crystal clear sound once I grounded to the module body.
I have a 2016 Honda Civic--it's got a usb plug input, but it does not have an aux input like my previous cars had. It has just a standard radio, no xm---can an aux input be installed easily on this car?
Greetings! That is a well done video. My soldering iron is crap and I'd like to get a new one before doing any more projects such as this. What kind of soldering iron do you have? You did well with it. Thank you
I have done as instructed. when my phone is not plugged in there is some static and when i'm driving or the wipers turn on it makes a high frequency sound. is this a ground issue?
So hey bro I have an exact 2004 Denali, I don't have a XM subscription, so it's no use, it wouldn't matter if I cut the XM cables and just replace them with the new aux Cables right? And one more thing, is it necessary to remove the whole dashboard trim? Thanks in advanced!
just did this mod, soldered connections. having a static sound issue though. as soon as the radio is set to xm input you can hear the static (even if phone is not plugged in). it does not really increase as volume knob is increased. once music is played, you cannot hear it at all, and the music is quite clear. shut the music off or pause, and you can hear the static again. all connections are heat shrink individually and connections are not touching.
So on your schematic you have the outermost black wire drawn down and labeled do not use. However, when you pull the XM plug you verbally say to use it and you reference the schematic. Should I use the black wire on the bottom or the one up from it? Thanks!!
Awesome video, helped big time. Did your truck come stuck with the lux Bose head unit or did you install that also? Was wondering if it’s possible to go from non lux Bose to the lux Bose head unit?
Any wire it does not matter. And no tips, just push the wires skin back, and separate the aux wire into two different sections to form a loop, place the XM wire into the little loop you made and twist it together at the top to secure the connection. Cut the exposed wire, tape it up and test it out.
This mod work pretty well for a while..i completely disconnected the wires from the xm radio module cause i didnt want any bleed through...now I cant switch to the xm radio option from my radio :(
captynrj did you plug the plug back in. ive been waiting for my xm sub to expire so i left it unplugged and didnt realize it and had no xm option. make sure its plugged in all the way
I just did this install on an 06 Silverado with the stock Bose system...I've checked all my connections twice and still am only getting audio through the driver's side front and rear speakers, nothing on the passenger side. XM plays through all 4 speakers but when I plug into the aux jux it goes to just the two driver's side. Anyone have this same problem? Also wondering if it could be the 1/8" to usb-c cable that plugs into my phone.
You should have seen the look on my face after I got this to work. You sir are a lifesaver!! I am STOKED!!

Just installed cutting wires and hear that darn static. Turn up music, ok, but why do some get no static and I do?
thanks for the video, appreciate it, But what does 3-conductor mean on the items packaging and how is it different to 4 conductor or 2 conductor?
hey man so what black wire is the ground the bottom or top
So on your schematic you have the outermost black wire drawn down and labeled do not use. However, when you pull the XM plug you verbally say to use it and you reference the schematic. Should I use the black wire on the bottom or the one up from it? Thanks!!
***** Thanks! I used the outermost and left the inner one completely untouched. Works great!
hello can I do the same for honda accord 7' generation? i have on the radio a botton CD/AUX
and also if i dont have xm subsription will this work if i only want the aux
Hi anyone know if this will work on gmc envoy 2004 without xm radio. And what colors to connect to
Awesome video, helped big time. Did your truck come stuck with the lux Bose head unit or did you install that also? Was wondering if it’s possible to go from non lux Bose to the lux Bose head unit?
a aux cable was added two this 2011 hd how do u turn it on once u installl
you seem to contradict yourself about which black wire to use. which one do you use?
Complete wiring n00b here. What gauge wire is good to use? Any tips on how to splice the auxiliary wires into the xm wires?
Any wire it does not matter. And no tips, just push the wires skin back, and separate the aux wire into two different sections to form a loop, place the XM wire into the little loop you made and twist it together at the top to secure the connection. Cut the exposed wire, tape it up and test it out.
Hi i have the same set up but it's working on the xm
This mod work pretty well for a while..i completely disconnected the wires from the xm radio module cause i didnt want any bleed through...now I cant switch to the xm radio option from my radio :(
captynrj did you plug the plug back in. ive been waiting for my xm sub to expire so i left it unplugged and didnt realize it and had no xm option. make sure its plugged in all the way
Hey how can I install this in my 1997 GMC Sierra? No xm...
Awesome
Worked like a charm! However when I press on the gas pedal there is a whistle in the radio that gets higher pitch as the car goes faster. Any ideas?
might be because your phone is charging at the same time
my subaru forester does this, even with it's factory installed aux jack. I believe this must be a pretty normal thing.
