My Great Grandparents, Grandparents immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in early 1900s. Then settled on farmland in southern Manitoba. My father also spoke Ukrainian till he was 7 yrs old. So we have a few similarities.
The reason that a lot of Ukrainians emigrated to Canada at the beginning of the of the 20 century was that Canada needed agricultural workers , and in Ukraine, especially Western part , people were poor, and they wanted better future for their children and for themselves. Emigration towards Brazil was absolutely tragic and heartbreaking: a lot of emigrants died because of the climate and poverty. Thank you for supporting Ukraine from Italy ! 🇺🇦👏🙏🤞💕
Excellent content! I loved the this or that at the beginning! What a beautiful balance between fun, funny, and highlighting important topics. Please bring back Kaitlin Vitt!
Also, one thing I blanked on when asked about Ukrainian-Canadian history is that the reason many Ukrainians immigrated to Canada is because of the offer of inexpensive farmland. From the Canadian Encyclopedia's article on Ukrainian-Canadian History and Settlement: "A massive advertising program promoted Canada as the 'Last Best West' and offered households 160 acres (64.7 hectares) of land for only $10. Thousands of immigrants came to Canada."
I'm so proud of Kaitlin for walking the talk.
Such an inspirational story! Thanks so much, Kaitlin, for sharing your story!
