I'll never forget this one guy who invited me to a game and told me he could dupe my grandfather sword for me, it seemed legit as he had a lot of duped godly items in his inventory which he showed me in trade.
But I still didn't buy it because what's to stop him from grabbing my item then running off, I needed some sort of trust.So he proposed I stay in town (this was act 1) behind the wooden pillars and he goes out of town on the other side so he can't just simply grab it.He said he could dupe the item from the ground as long as it's within the same screen, so I agreed and dropped the item.
He teleported right through the wall, picked up my grandfather sword in a split second and then left the game.I was like.... WTF just happened!?It was a pretty smart trick, he was a barb and had teleport charges on an amulet.There were some really sneaky fuckers back on that game
I got fucked over by that exact scam once. When that barb teleported my mind was blown.
I got boned by the trade scam once also. I'll never forget it ... I was trading like 30+ soj's for a skullders ire armor. The guy kept "accidentally" realizing he didn't have enough room for the 30 sojs so he had to go back to his stash. He did it twice. The third time I was so sick of clicking to move each soj so many times when he finally hit the check mark I clicked it instantly. When I realized I had some shitty regular armor with the same graphic I was so bummed. To add insult to injury the guy dicked me around for half an hour going to different places in the game and saying he dropped my soj's to give them back. So I was going around clearing the den of evil and shit looking for my soj's while he was making fun of me. Ahh... those were the days!

Ya, sometime i call my friends to play a TCP game just for fun. Make duels of lv 40. I can say that it's the best of Diablo 2. Causa there's not broken classes at such low lv. There are great itens mechanics like Slow, Damage Reduction and other things.. And we "challange" who can become stronger in short time. Some time we do it on Ladder. Starting with one char, but ALWAYS farming alone. Than, we create a new chars.. transfer the itens.. make some buils and have fun on PVP. Damn, that's awsome.

I agree with you. Played D2 online for a few years and these are many reasons i decided to play alone or only with friends. It just felt like if they weren't a scammer or a bot, they where an absolute asshole.

Watching this video reminded me how long it's been since I played D2. Loot snatching wasn't an issue for me, I used to be in a sizable clan and we all just shared. If someone was doing runs and they got something good that they didn't need, they broadcasted it in the channel and the members who needed it offered to trade or just got it for free. Every time I made a new character for a new build, this one friend of mine would give me a few things to start off with like Titan's and Valk Wing for a javazon or something. And I used to think I was ~so cool and different~ for playing a martial arts Assassin instead of a trapsin because everybody had them. Sigh, the memories.
It was equally as fun looking for scammers and trolling them as well. God I missed those days.

As much as i loved playing Diablo 2 myself, this video kind of makes me glad i did not play multiplayer. all the top 10 you have mentioned sounds very frustrating.
Some of them made it more interactive though.
Like the multiple trade scams, made it more fun to trade.
I used a trick myself in act 2 tavern, for a while it was believed duped items would vanish if u dropped them on the ground.
U would ask the person to stand outside of the tavern while you stand inside, then u told them to prove its not duped and drop the items on the ground.
While you would do the same with yours, the scam was that you can only pick up the items from the inside to the outside of the tavern but not the other way arround :)
This worked for like 2 months until the entire community catched on.
Little things like this always made u be on your toes, i loved it.
It all added to the fun of it, it was not a perfect world just like life people will bend you over weather or not you say nooooooooo
Count me in on users who never had the luxury of finding friends in high school who shared similar interest in this game. Solo it was and still is.
Especially when you're HC and you get TP PK'd or a fkn summon necro kills you right on the edge of town while technically still being in town
@@Helaw0lf Dude, 3 of my friends who I've maintained contact over the years with I met playing Diablo 2. 2 of them are from Montreal, they were the clan leaders of the PVP clan I was in. The 3rd guy is from Georgia, he was in the clan that I made after the game was out for about a year and a half and people started to move on.
Im glad you mentioned this scam in the video. Back in 2002 when i was 11 or 12 I was playing on my barb and a guy told me he could dupe my gear. There was no way I was going to give him anything or drop anything on the ground. He said there was no need to do any of that. Instead he told me to fill my inventory with keys and to meet him outside of town. I did as he said, then he went hostile and killed me. I was confused and while running back to retrieve my body he killed my naked character as i tried to click my corpse which then caused my original body to drop ALL of my equipped items which he was able to take about 70% of. It's the only time I'v ever cried over a video game lol, but it did teach me to not trust anyone i don't know online.

i like how the community got creative on how to scam each other. totally fitted the dark atmosphere in d2. it kinda escalated at trading annihilius.. xD
I get why some people might think its more legit to be a piece of shit because the game is dark themed, but it really doesnt warrant that kind of scummy behaviour at all.
@@miiko7859 back in the early days of the game it was full of scammers, shady people and bots that would join any open game and spam ads. It was the early/mid 2000's so the way people thought was very different online. Most people were decent but there were so many shady people.
One of the old-school tricks to steal an account was to ask someone what their email was so you could be friends and talk or so they could send you a bot program, so they thought, but really they would go and change the email linked to your account and reset pw and stuff.
I had a lot of it happen to me and I also did a lot of that stuff to other people, but all in all at the end of the day the game was great unless you attracted unwanted attention as I did.
@@miiko7859 these days it wouldn't be tolerated but back then it was very known of in game, and cheating with the hax by Andy program or running a bot, but to be fair running bots was actually helpful to the community through xp runs in chaos and baal, 9/10 of them games was a bot. You join pk and most people had 3rd party program they COULD use if they chose to, and sometimes they did and you die instantly from farcast cheat or they would screen flash you, make your screen flicker black and come back over and over, different times brought about different things. I'm not justifying anything just explaining.

I remember that I was playing Open Battlenet D2 as a kid. I was grouping with an amazon and a sorc, but I was a barbarian. We had just made it into the catacombs, but the amazon died. The sorc immediately stole all of his gold. When the amazon came back through the town portal I'd made, he blamed me. I stated I had done no such thing. He persisted. As a show of good faith, I dropped all the gold I had. He proceeded to threaten to upload a virus to my computer. I left the game, and was scared shitless to see that the desktop background had changed.

Met a guy when I was like 10 and played a bunch with. He was hunkering down for a hurricane and I asked if I could use account while he was gone.. The very second he shared his account info I transferred everything he had to me account. Still think about how much of a shit bag I was

Feel pretty bad about it now but I was in high school and didn’t care about much. That game had me by the balls. I was obsessed with it for a good few years

I remember one time I spawned into a game and there were like a million gems on the ground all all different grades. It would have taken forever to collect them. The guy was standing next to them but I just started picking them up as fast as I could and then he started picking them back up but I bet I got over half of them. He was like, give those back. And I was like, no. And I left the game.

I think he meant more the white knighting types that bash on you if your account isnt 100% legit with pedigree certificates for every single item you have. Like a guy i knew that wouldnt play multiplayer at all because he considered that even being able to trade items was cheating despite it being a core function of the online game implemented by the creators themselves. Its a difference if u say it's not legit to install 3rd party software like a lootfilter or to install a 3rd party software that automatically picks up the loot faster than a human player can. Especially when its an item based game, this completely ruins the multiplayer games. A lootfilter instead does like zero harm. But hey, he said legit in two different situations.

God I remembered my playthrough as a assassin in diablo 2 for the first time, yes with the expansion, and around act 2 I adopted the flame wave trap. I was tired of getting swarmed and overpowered by the numbers. 😂😅

y'all remember the risk you had to take when transferring items from character to character? you just had to find some hidden crevice in an encampment to drop your item, exit the room, and then re-enter with the character you wanted to give the item to. sometimes the rooms would time out, sneaky players would quickly sweep the map while holding shift to see if item names would show up, or worse - the bots people made that would automatically sweep items other players dropped! who knew that something as simple as transferring items would give you such a thrill?
or you'd get a realm down after leaving the game to switch characters
i would have a lot of my new characters quest rushed to get all the waypoints but be like lvl 10 so i would farm xp in act 1 and 2 usually doing trist and andy runs and whenever i saw a super high lvl player join for 20 seconds then leave i would rush all the popular waypoints and collected a crap ton of high lvl set items that way
You can just make a private game drop stuff and leave the game last for about 1.5 minutes after you leave

@@Seven_Leaf i alway prefered the sunshine looking one due to model XD and ring case i loved the orange stone model......also here the fun part....i was collecting armor pieces with the name "faithfull" aka white colored pieces....i loved that white coloring....its also the color the hacked items were in open b.net(LF < freeby white set plz !)...ancient armor had the best model followed by gothic plates......red ancient armor was also sexy XD

Tppkers in hardcore... you forgot them. Oftentimes they would use a pickit like hack to cast a lightning at you tp and go hostile all before the lightning hit you. Same with hammerdins, htdra sorc etc.
You forgot the mid run ganker. Your in a run as a low level or helping a new guy when suddenly a major douchenozzle comes in with enigma and tele kills everyone mid run.
That moment when the scammer started insulting you because you double checked the trade and asked where the real item went

The worst feeling in Diablo II wasn't seeing someone pick up all the loot before you could. It was logging on to find that your account had been hacked, and that someone stole all your stuff and probably deleted your characters too.

There was a camper that I and many others bumped into in the same room. He was a Barbarian who's waiting for ANYONE to step out and he'd kill them, but what was cheap is that he waited at the Rogue encampment instead of the later Acts, and he was lv55. So he's basically sitting there, killing Act 1 players not letting them play the game.
So I came around, Necro lv30, got to Act 1's portals, gather up a huge group of skeletons, then swarm him from behind. It took roughly 1 hour, but amazingly I managed to take him down, he lost his stuff and gold, and rage quit the game. Never saw him again.
Lmao this is so good. I've been most of these at one point and definitely encountered them all many times. "I said PERFECT griffon, dude. Not some piece of shit with only 259 defense instead of 260!!!"
I feel the scam part except when I was around 12 years old I was scammed for a rattlecage. Instead the person put a p amethyst Gothic plate instead of the armor and lost some valuable classic items. I dont know why I was so horrible upset by it but I dropped all my items and quit the game. I probably had such a horrible reaction to it because it was the first time I ever got scammed

I've had someone almost succeed at putting an Emerald in a Shako, trying to pass it as a Harlequin Crest for an UM rune. Fortunately I didn't have room in my inventory because of charms and cube, I noticed on the attempt after I put charms in the cube.

I think you forgot one. This is similar to the guy waiting to kill you outside of the encampment, but even a more dickish move. The player that watches people duel, and then snags up the loot as soon as the player dies.

After having people join your games and take all your drops with their pickit, u would do it too if you could.
it was possible to legitly be faster than ppl using said addon...i would alway beat those using it for looting speed(at least 2 items ahead of them)...when baal is near death stop dpsing...press key to show loot and pu mouse right above the loots would drop.......wait for loot to drop and rush click b4 the addon react....prob not possible for someone who were having lag or delay loading then there is the reaction speed of the player....i was around 0.240 sec to react back years ago...nowadays i'am at 0.300(yay for aging.....).....brain reactivaty is a key factor to be able to race an addon.....Artanis....if your wondering how fast you can react...looks for an app that test reactivity....when the msg "click or wtv msg it is" appear you rush click(repeat a few time to get your average score).....fastest reactivity scores i seen from someone else were 0.210 average

About number 6, diablo isn't the first game of it's kind, there is an older game that is called Legend, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_(1992_video_game) But even this can be taken from other various dungeon board games.

To this day.. people still don't know how killing the cow king works it seems.
The Cow King functioned like a Quest in your log, despite not showing in it. What does that mean? It means that once you killed the cow king, you could no longer make the portal, but it ALSO meant that you could no longer complete the quest, for you OR anyone else. If you've killed the cow king and someone else makes the portal, you could kill the cow king while the person who made the portal stood right next to you, in your party, and they would NOT lose the ability to create the portal. HOWEVER, if someone who CAN make a portal kills the cow king, EVERY SINGLE PERSON INSIDE THE COW LEVEL UPON THE KINGS DEATH, PARTIED OR NOT, WILL COMPLETE THE QUEST AND NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE PORTAL. Oh and guess what else, there's a way to TELL if the person who kills the king completed the quest or not. Did the cow king drop a bunch of stamina potions? If no, then the person who killed him already did before and couldn't make portals, everyone is safe. If there's a bunch of stamina pots after though, someone who could make the portal fucked up and everyone is now screwed.
It's been nearly 20 fucking years now, and people STILL don't understand how it works to this day... and if you don't believe me, I would be happy to reinstall, level up to 20, and test with you to show you exactly the truth behind it all.

You're off on some of that. When you rush someone, the person being rushed doesn't have to be the one to kill the boss. Why would he have to be the one to kill the king?
As in somebody who hasn't killed the king yet, standing in screen length of the king, while someone kills him partied, will aquire the quest for everyone in the party.
I don't know about you but I read The Arreat Summit, a strategy guide for Diablo II: Lord of Destruction front to back and it states on the quest tab under secret cow level
"a) "Pre-opener": a character who has not yet completed the "Eve of Destruction" quest on this difficulty (and thus cannot create the cow portal yet).
b) "Cow-quester": a character who completed the "Eve of Destruction" quest but not the Cow King quest on this difficulty.
c) "Ex-opener": a character who completed the Cow King quest in a previous game on this difficulty (and thus cannot create the cow portal).
Only characters INSIDE the Secret Cow Level at the very instant when the Cow King is slain can potentially complete the quest. Now,
(1) IF Kingslayer was a or c, THEN everyone is unaffected, i.e. Cow King quest status does not change.
(2) IF Kingslayer was b, THEN every a and b INSIDE at that time permanently loses the ability to create the cow portal on this difficulty setting. "

The best trade hack was the buffer , open trade. Show items. Exit trade, reopen trade (buffer items show in opposite players trade inventory). Accept. Buffer item disappears. Asshole has left the game.
I remember when I was 9 (2002 i think ). I managed to get the full Trangs set for my necro. I was really proud, showed it off to my dad and his friend who played with me. ( My friends were my age and their parents didnt like the gore ) One day not long after completing the set, some guy noticed by my sprite's look that i had the whole set. Chat with me a while and I mentioned my father would like the set for his necro as well so we were working to get it for him. This guy tells me he can duplicate it for me. ( By now I'm sure you know where this is going ).
So, he tells me to drop the entire set while he uses a stash glitch to duplicate everything, being young and innocent I dropped the whole set. He picked it up, fuddled around a bit, dropped the helmet, then left the game. I froze not understanding whats happened. Once I've realized what happened I ended up crying the whole day over it. I put a lot of work into getting that set. Mom wanted me to stop playing, dad told me to keep playing and now I've learned a lesson about trusting people I don't know, and I was lucky it was just game items instead of my own money.
I ended up deleting the necro, made a JavZon. And routinely made free item games to drop gear I didn't want or need for others.
Trang-Oul's set was released in patch 1.10 which hit the servers October 28, 2003.
Your story would have had to taken place sometime after that. Hopefully that helps you figure it out a bit better.

I once got "scammed" with a really strong ethereal item with 0 durability. Basically I was too much of an idiot to realize that it probably won't work for my merc, but luckily I was able to scam someone else with it so I broke even lol

I played the game for years , I was young and learned all the scams and bullshit people pulled, sometimes the hard way but that was Diablo 2. The game was full of scammers and people trying to rip you off, it was part of the culture lol.
After 18 years, you’d think the video creator would know that party status doesn’t impact whether you get the king “quest”.

I picked up a shako faster than a guy with pickit. I didn't really need it but it was an accomplishment nonetheless.
If you have better ping and just are lucky to be clicking right where it drops, you can certainly beat pickit users. They'll win 95% of the time, but it's glorious when you do.
Fell for a dupe glitch a long time ago. Went to a site while the guy talked me through it. Eventually, Amy mouse started dropping all of my gear that I had equipped and in my inventory. Couple years later, I friended someone and we were playing a very long time. Turns out, he was the guy who set me up in the dupe glitch lmfaooo. GUNSNROSES, if you are out there. Come home.
My brother would switch out a ghost armor Enigma for a quilted armor in the trading window while asking a question to distract the victim. MEMORIES 😭 HOW THE DAYS HAVE GONE.
One of the things that REALLY annoys me is, when you're in a diablo or baal run and some jerk leaves the party, goes hostile and starts killing off party members or..........will wait until you're in a spawn area (diablo run) and open a seal which will often get you killed quickly. Personally, I think Blizzard should add in a patch that makes it so you have to actually accept the challenge before a player can attack you.
Another pet peeve is players who offer to rush you for your forge. Personally, I could care less about it. If someone needs help, I give it freely without asking for anything in return. Furthermore, if someone is looking for a weapon and I happen to have one that I picked up in a boss run or wherever, I'll just give it to them for free. I've given away entire Sigon's sets to lower level characters simply because I didn't need it anymore but, still had it in my inventory. I've also given 10K to new players so they can buy some decent equipment to get started.

You left me out. I knew how the annihilus quest worked, so when I saw the message "Diablo walks the Earth" or whatever, I ran straight to Corpsefire in the den of evil. Sure enough it was the Diablo Clone. Killed it, already had an annihilus, so I left the game and rejoined with another character to grab it. All while there was another guy in the game looking for him. He knew exactly what was going down when i came back in. I feel bad now, but back then I had to get that loot!
I remember joining a game on my summoning nec, and as I spawned into town I instantly died and all of my shit dropped and like 4 dudes swarmed all of my shit. I was so sad man lol

Honestly up until this point, I only played the original D2. However, I might play Plugy as it pretty much allowed for ladder only stuff to come in singleplayer and the stash now has tons of space

If someone is being a turd with how “legit” they are then yea. But I was a mostly legit player myself. I never used any mods/hacks, never duped, never scammed, and only traded for basic stuff.
I also don’t see the problem with people playing hammerdins or sorc. For starters the sorc was one of the most fun because of how flashy her abilities were. Plus a lot of people like to use the “mage” class is these games. The source also had to deal with immunities more than other classes from what I remember.

Dave D that's the problem! You always brag how your char with gear worth like 2k fg took out level 80 with a gear not even worth 1 fg. I actually seen photo of one of my characters being killed by one of those LLD. Back then I had no gear or game knowledge at all. I had something like: magic amu with +2 to cold skills, lindless wall or whatever it's called for shield (+1 to all skills one) some random +2 wand. Mf belt and gloves.... I didn't even know that things like anihilus or Torch even existed. And he 2 shot me. His gear was insane and every single sc in his inventory was worth more then my whole gear + stash. Nothing to brag about killing a noob but he did...

There's a special place in hell for the guy that griefed my game, just to kill the only Uber Diablo event I had ever experienced within seconds of joining and pretending like he was going to party. Quietly killing it taking it's stuff, and logging off before could even return to town. Selfish players like that straight up suck, and just ruin the whole player community. I'd rather there not even be an Uber Diablo event if it gives jerks opportunities to grief players like that.
100% had a bear summon druid PK ppl sitting in town while I giggled like a maniac back in early 2000's. The rage it caused was beautiful and delicious at that time of my life.

Back when I was a teenager I had someone play with me for about 2 or 3 whole days before he talked me into letting him try out my WF. The minute it hit the ground I never saw it again. He held it hostage for the rest of my gear which I eventually caved and surrendered. He made off stripping my whole zon. It was the wild west back in the 1.09 days. People went to great lengths to take advantage of you especially when they realize you were just an honest player looking for more friends.

In the end, ladder stays a competition, I prefer acquiring perfect stuff on ONE character than many low items on multiple characters, it has way more punch and it's fun to say you got one of the strongest character of your class.
Not everyone prefers paying up for perfect stuff, but the people that do so, have a lot of fun and dedication doing so.
If my end character is going to use a shako, I'll want it to be 141. Anything less is temporary.

I play Hardcore, I'd rather have an elite enigma with 15%ed, than an enigma in a shitty breast plate base, more defense = more survavibility, if it can be perfect, it's even better.

Reminds me way back in the day there were mods or bots that would teleport you right to an item an pick it up pretty much before it hit the ground. Or the infamous "white ring" era. Modded ring that would make you immune to frost damage and run super fast lol. Was fun for a while.
Who remembers the drop game?! The game where players take turns dropping their godly items on the ground and pick it back up before anyone else does. I've won and lost so many items this way. It was too fun though. People would play with a full game or even play 1v1 at a random location or in a private game. I miss it :(
