From 5 STAR QB PRODIGY to NFL DRAFT BUST (What Happened to Jacob Eason?)

- Coming out of high school, Jacob Eason was a five star recruit and the QB savior of Georgia football. He had highs and lows his freshman year, but then he got screwed and had to transfer back home to Washington. After an up and down season, he would leave for the NFL and while it looked like he was being put into a good situation, he ultimately became a QB bust, so what happened? Today, we will talk about the rise & fall of Jacob Eason and tell his story, enjoy!
Who should I do a video on next?
Not sure if you’ve done him yet, but I think Dayne Crist would be a good one.
Sheriron Jones UT’s battle @ Bristol MVP
Max Duggan’s sudden rise
Do a video on why Colorado is hard to win at. Maybe I’m biased, but It seems like it’s a dream school for athletes. Great college town, right next to Denver. Campus is beautiful, academics are pretty decent, and plenty of cool outdoor things to do as well. Seems like it should be a dream destination for recruits. Why not?
What happened to Jake fromm
Can’t call Eason a nfl bust if he was drafted in the 4-5th round. But yeah he had potential In College
Eason was lazy and liked to party. That’s the real story of what happened at Washington. He let the fame get to his head and thought everything was going to be easy.
He had the same issue at Georgia.
Agreed. Heard stories before, they followed. He had better shit or got! Clocks ticking. Tried out for Green Bay approx. 5/11-12, something like that. Hed better grab his talent & go to work. Fuck!!!
no one could deliver a better deep ball than eason. only problem was his work ethic. only played football because he was good at it, not because he loved it
I can name 10+ QB's with better deep balls
@@Spnnnetwork you a high $ escort?
No one makes it as far as he did without a solid work ethic.
@@Spnnnetwork no you cant

Jacob's Dad is Tony Eason. He did play at Notre Dame, he was a wide receiver. However, the Tony Eason you show as his father at 1:10 as QB for the Patriots (the QB when the team was dismantled by the '85 Bears and the Refrigerator) is not the same Tony Eason and is not Jacob's father. It's confusing to be sure.
Thanks for clearing that up because I swore it was ND QB Tony.
QB tony Eason played for the Illini.
Yeah I was like wth?😁
@@ralphwilliams2396 To be fair, what are the odds of two guys, roughy the same age, who both played football at D1 level in college, and are both named “Tony Eason.” And of those two, only one is semi famous as a football player, and he is the one that was a QB, like Jacob. Odds are strong the Patriots Eason gets assumed.
It’s been much more egregious. When Jacob went to the Colts, the Indy newspaper did the report of his signing centered around his Dad being a former Super Bowl QB. 🤣
@@ktbeatty I remember b4 he got drafted I jus assumed it was the Tony Eason of the patriots and NOBODY said anything about another Tony Eason had no clue 1 was a ND receiver 🤪
I lived in Lake Stevens while he was finishing up high school and his time at UGA. To me I don’t think he really understood the environment/pressure that came with going to play in the SEC and Georgia. I spoke to his mother once who worked at my kids elementary school about her experience of going to a game while he was at UGA and I could tell that she didn’t get how serious SEC fans take football. I knew then that he was not the QB to take Georgia to the next level. I continued to follow him at UW and in the NFL, I just never saw the passion to be great.
Bingo! Some folks NEED to stay a big fish in a little pond for a LITTLE while longer. Going to GA is basically going from bars and libraries to playing Madison Square Garden. It’s a LOT of pressure.
With the way Baker Mayfield is playing, you may actually see him before the season is over.
pj walker
I had quite a few friends that were part of the UGA program. They said he would like to party too much particularly on Friday nights and would show up to the pregame slightly hung over. The team began to loose respect for him at that point.
Your upload schedule is crazy man, just pounding out videos, they’re all fantastic too
I gotta work hard this time of year!
I think he should have stayed in college for his last year, sure he would be in the class of Lawrence, but I think it would have help him.
Exactly. Way too many quarterbacks come out too early. The more time you spend in college learning the game the better you will be prepared for the NFL.
What I was thinking too. I am an SEC fan(Tennessee) and I don't remember this guy. Do remember the UGA/UT game that year. Big Hail Mary to beat Ga. Still don't remember Eason though. Dude was looking for an NFL check. Sounds like the kind of guy coaches caught on to that he wasn't dedicated enough.
I think he left at the right time since the season was Covid-19 shortened.
@@conniegerlach9529 yeah that happened, but then he would have had an extra year
🤔Eason and Justin Fields got shafted by Kirby Smart for Jake Fromm.
Kirby “Not” Smart.
Smart brought GA a national championship, so you have that. Smart is one of the many coaches that turned down the UT head coaching job when he was still DC at ALA.
Jacob Eason was decent for Seattle in pre season
I think Eason lacks in leadership abilities......Kirby Smart said one time, "Jacob is trying to lead". Strong leadership in the huddle translates to players seeing a chance and believing they can win and that can transform players. When Jake Fromm was put in, everything changed. The players responded to Fromm, Kirby said, "Jake get's it". Jake was a smarter QB, and the players saw that or sensed it and he became QB1.
Kirby Smart needed to win that title. Mack Brown won a title and played for another at Texas, but he kept missing on star QBs. RGIII and Manziel were recruited as DBs. Jameis wasn’t recruited when he said he would’ve gone to Texas. Kirby let Eason and Fields leave for Fromm and now he has Beck and Vandagriff riding the bench for Bennett
He obviously has no clue what's he's doing
It's called continuity with the offense playbook. While Vandagriff has much better arm talent he's also like a freshman,as for Beck he's not that good
I'm sorry, you did hear that year when Eason was the QB, Georgia lost to not just Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss....but also Vany?! Nah, take his name out of there and why would you not keep the QB who was the offensive MVP in the first championship win in school history since 1980 as your starting QB for guys who have yet to play meaningful game minutes? You got it with Field but going to have to disagree with you with the others
Beck is good. Just watch.
This didn’t age well. 2 National Championships with Bennett at QB. Beck with an outstanding year this past year (2023) And 2018 National Championship game loss attributed to a safety who blew his coverage on the 2 and 26 play.
He was like a 4th or 5th round pick he wasn’t a bust 😂
He does this with everybody .. couple weeks ago he made a video calling Jarrett Stidham, a 4th round pick, a bust .. dude is a clown
He was released by the Colts because he wasn't picking up the playbook like they wanted is the rumor. His story isn't completely done yet.
It wasn't just brice Ramsey it was also greyson lambert who he had battled it out with when he got to ga. But I think people kind of hyped him up to much. I can remember people were excited to get him an saying Georgia getting the number 1 qb an saying that he could be 1st round pick a 1st overall before he had even stepped took a snap. But I do hope to see him get a chance sooner or later
I bet when he heard Frank Reich was the new Panthers coach he was like 'I guess it's just not meant to be'. As expected , he gave Eason the boot..again 😒
Unfortunately it looks like he's done now since he still is unsigned in preseason. Never will understand what was really wrong with him, looked pretty good in the preseason games I saw. Even noodle armed Jake Fromm is on a roster and he looked absolutely terrible with the Eagles
If one explores the PNW High School QBs who were 5 Star guys, well, they were all kind of "busts". Eason is certainly one of those, but Max Browne and Jake Heaps, both from Skyline HS, were kind of that way too. Heaps won 3 straight state titles, went to BYU, but then lost the starting job and ended up at Kansas and then Miami, never really putting it together. Max Browne went to USC and was even the starter at one point, but would eventually lose that job too. I do have to say that Browne was a total team player. He never transferred, he got his degree and that was fine for him. I think the biggest problem for PNW QBs is that they go to college as completely finished projects, having had QB "gurus" like Tracey Ford work with them since they were Freshman and going to Nike Elite 11 camps in Eugene. They are already at their peak. Other schools get raw talent and continue to develop these kids past where the PNW QBs start. The best QB from the PNW in recent times was actually the unheralded Kellen Moore, who ended up as the all-time wining QB in College Football at Boise State. Or Lincoln Victor, who won the State Title at Union in 2018, but switched to being a wide receiver and is helping WSU to a great season this year. A lot of folks are big on Joshua Wood from Graham-Kapowsin last year, I look forward to seeing what he can do at the next level. He led G-K to that huge last second victory over the Georgia 7A State Champ in the HS bowl game in Las Vegas last year.
Currently, Lincoln HS (Tacoma) QB Gabarri Johnson is set to be "the next big thing" from the PNW. He has committed to Mizzou.
Yep! thanks for typing that out, it was interesting! I am a mizzou fan so i am hype for Johnson! Sam Huard has been a bust too
@@ScottFisherCFB I completely forgot about Sam Huard! That's another one. Actually, if one wants to trace the genesis of the PNW Gatorade Player of the Year QBs starting to be complete busts, I think Sam's uncle, Luke Huard, is probably the first one I can think of.
Ur pretty on point overall. Only things I'd add are 1. Browne did transfer (after graduating like u said) n looked good in his last game at Pitt before getting hurt again 2. Justin Herbert is from Eugene which is 100% part of the PNW, but he was only 3 star n a last minute backup plan for the dux so not finished product like ur talkin about 3. Tracy Ford is shady but he's not known as a qb guru around here, he's more of the all around athletic performance kinda guy, Taylor Barton is prolly the most well known qb specific guy in the PNW
@@ScottFisherCFB lol did u say that Eason is one of ur favorite players of all time?? Thats pretty wild bro
Considering his college career and that he was a 4th round draft. He can't be a bust.
Well he ain't playing now! Bust.
@@VL1975 did you not read my comment before replying.
@@HeyThatWeirdGuy Did you my comment before responding? Or did you fail reading comprehension in school?
@@VL1975 LMAO nice bro
Take his last name away and expectations would’ve been more rational
Horribly titled video. You’re not a draft bust when you’re a below average college quarterback in a bad conference that leaves school early because some nfl team took a flyer on you in the fourth round. Didn’t anyone else see his poor throwing mechanics in high school? That’s hardly a prodigy.
How can somebody who made it to the NFL and is STILL in the NFL a bust? Most 5 stars don’t even make it to the NFL. He’s far from a bust
From the #1 QB prospect to a practice squad player. That's not just a bust, that's a kaboom.
He is practice squad for Carolina. I’m not sure his story is over
Carolina is bad right now.
It's over.
And how many QBs go from practice squad to starter?
At Washington he was never a play maker and he was below average when under pressure. He required good protection because his slow footedness meant he couldn't help himself in the pocket. He can throw the ball a mile but that is not enough for a QB. His ability to be a star college player and NFL QB was simply misjudged. He was not a bust because he actually performed up to his God givern ablilty.
Eason was never good.
I hated the way his career ended at UGA. He had a canon for an arm with pinpoint accuracy. He just looked like a baby giraffe when he would try to scramble. Statues were more mobile.
I don’t think Kirby Smart ever wanted him. Did not have the best quarterback coaching at UGA.
Eason >>> Mayfield
Kirby smart happened to Jacob eason
Just got signed by the Giants
I remember that UT game. As soon as I saw all those players run out in the field and get that unsportsmanlike penalty…and then the Dawgs bombed on the squib kick…I knew it wasn’t close to being over.
He just never got better with each game throughout his career out of high school. As a Ga Dawgs fan he very frustrating to watch. Fromm came in with probably a little less raw talent, but exuded confidence and just took the job away. Fromm just got better with each game.
should have tried for USFL or go to Canada (CFL).
Eason on the giants????
There's two things that has hurt Eason which is leaving high school early and leaving Washington early these 2 mistakes has hindered his development but if he can get to a decent team they can develop him into something special
Why do you think leaving high school early hurt him? The high school football season was over when he enrolled early at Georgia, which gave him a head start on his college football career as he could participate in Spring practices and be learning the system. That is a huge advantage vs enrolling in the Fall. That said, maybe he would have been better served to play another year in college at UW, although he almost might have gotten injured again. Impossible to know.
So he went for his dream regardless he's set for life if he invests goodly which he could 🤔 either way he's maximized his outcome... He's a fourth year junior when he left... Always feel like his entourage hold him back ..
Maybe your video is the opposite of a curse since he just got another chance to play this last Sunday due to injuries across the depth chart.
3-5 for 59 yards and one interception in a lost cause game 24-10 against a top defender in the LA Rams.
I've always believed at least 70% of being a successful NFL QB was between the ears and the ability to make quality split second decisions when under pressure from an NFL defensive pass rush.
Every NFL QB has arm talent and is a gifted athlete. Granted, some more than others. What separates talented gifted QBs from career starting QBs is between the ears.
I don't know enough about Jacob Eason to judge his potential between the ears but he has the physical tools to succeed and is still young with time and opportunities to develop.
By amazing coincidence I stumbled across this video by random chance and I graduated from high school with Jacob's father. We were ranked number one in the state most of the season for both our junior and senior sessions in '82 and '83. I hope Tony is proud of his son regardless of how his NFL career plays out. He is already a winner making it to the NFL in the first place.
You could do 5 star Jordan Johnson. He was a 2019 WR commit I believe. I may be off a year
He went to notre dame
Eh, he wasn't taken that highly, especially for a QB. So I don't know that he's a draft bust when expectations were that high for him. Maybe they were high in high school, but after college, I don't think anyone was projecting him to do much in the NFL.
He was wasted at Georgia. It’s a damn shame.
Tony Eason, played college football at the University of Notre Dame, but he should not be confused with quarterback Tony Eason who played college football at the University of Illinois and later for the New England Patriots in the 1980s.[
I am a huge University of Washington fan. I remember Jacob Eason taking the helm from Jake Browning. Browning was smart and was accurate but never had the big arm. Eason had an amazing arm, but wasn't smart. He seemed to run into sacks instead of avoiding. He had all the potential in the world but never seemed to know how to fulfill it. He's been given the opportunities at the professional level. I think the opportunities have run out.
He has barely gotten a chance I think he could be good if he actually played a whole game
The coaches see him in practice every day. They know what they have.
At least he's still in the NFL.
Ramsey didn't start the first game in 2016, it was Grayson Lambert
I'm pretty sure it was grayson lambert, not brice Ramsey
He should've never went to Georgia..while Smart may be getting better but at that time he had zero history developing QBs. Makes no sense to me why he went there to begin with. Most college QBs that get drafted high have gone to a handful of schools there's always the exception but he wasn't it.
He should've exhausted his eligiblity. With covid we now know college QBs still get better in college through 25
Lastly 0 mobility. Guys like him will be college QBs only moving forward....NFL offenses want mobility
I had a long conversation with Jacob on my podcast this week. We talked about his football journey from high school to now. It's helpful when you zoom out and listen to the athlete tell the story in their own words.
Interview here: ruclips.net/video/LlIFRwoFeRg/видео.html
If you ever met him or know people who knew him, then it’s hard to feel bad for him lmao
Arrogant, huh?! 🥴
He had very slow foot, long release, not particularly accurate. He was big with a huge arm. That was basically it. Couldnt translate
This is why your channel doesnt blow up. YOU CONSTANTLY GIVE WRONG INFO
Jacob Eason competed with JAKE HAENER. Not Jacob Sirmon
So what’s your excuse?
he probably just never LOVED the sport, perhaps due to dad pressuring.
You really can't call someone an NFL draft bust if they were sort of a bust in college.
He sounds like he is inconsistent. He might throw it far and he is big but obviously with as many chances as he has had he isn't as good as the hype.
It wasn’t bryce ramsey it was greyson lambert
What went wrong for Eason?
Sometimes, players that were stars in college can't make it on a pro level. Just like high school students don't always do well in college.
I watched him at Georgia. He has no fire. No passion.
I think his biggest mistake was not forming a relationship with rivers. I think Phil could have change his whole future in the league.
4th rnd draft pick and still in the NFL - So how is he a bust! You're reaching and badly at that.. Kinda ridiculous
That's a washout. Not necessarily a bust. Feel better now?🤣😄
Absolutely love your videos but maybe don’t post three in quick succession each day, reduce it to one per day and it would impact more
slow twitch athlete with big arm
Montlake Jake/Jacob
Just became a Giant
He’s still in the league
he needs to go to the USFL
Jacob Eason is not related to former New England Patriot Tony Eason who attended Illinois and who you have pictured. Completely different Tony Eason.
skinny's always had a god tier deep-ball. wish he could've been a NFL star. -grasses
Same I always thought if he went to the nfl it would have been perfect to be taught by Rivers. But then again I played high-school ball with him and I’m a chargers fan haha.
He's on 49ERS practice squad. Hopefully, he does something with us. GO 49ERS!
If Eason went in the draft with Lawrence he could have been the second QB off the board. Don’t understand why he jumped the gun.
Arguably the best quarterback Georgia has had barring injury then being replaced by jake Fromm - gators fan 🐊🐊
You must’ve forgot Stafford, Shockley, Murray, Belue and about 6 others
How did he sit out for 2 years at UGA when he was there for 2 1/2 years…with the 1/2 being spring ball and 1 of the years being his freshman season??? 🤔
Why the picture of new England patriots qb Tony Eason? That isn’t s Jacob’s dad even though they gave the same name
JACOB EASON is not a bust he just really haven't had the chance to play ! Carolina Panthers should start Eason over Andy Dalton the first game this year just to prove to that he is ready for the NFL!
he the back up qb for the vikings
Carolina
The Cardinals could use a QB that's not a midget.
Random nitpicking here because I'm a loser, but Eason actually beat out UVA transfer Greyson Lambert. Ill go back to my moms basement now
He falls under the long lineage of Montlake Jakes ,... UW Husky QBs who are named Jake/Jacob who never got a solid chance to showcase their talents at the next level... But as far as PNW Legendary QBs go... Jake Locker is 100% without a doubt the local legend at HS QB... Everybody in the state of washington loves jake locker, he is the Savior of Washington.. Although I suppose Eason is kind've like,... the new age version of him, but still Jacob Eason never beat Bellevue... Jake Locker beat Bellevue, Skyline, and Tumwater which are the 3 like.. Local powerhouse schools. And Jake played like every position on the field, was in the same Elite11 QB class as Josh Freeman, Juice Williams, Mitch Mustain, Tim Tebow, Jevan Snead, Matt Stafford, while i also find it worth noting that the semifinalists for the elite11 that year were Sam Bradford, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick, Case Keenum, Thaddeus Lewis, Greg Mcelroy, Christian Ponder, and Ricky Stanzi ... Jeeeeeeeeeesus christ it is insane that all of those guys were Senior High School Quarterbacks in the same class .... That is actually fucking insane
His Dad didn't play for the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, that was another Tony Eason.
And, he's currently on an NFL Team's Practice Squad, so maybe there's a chance for some redemption.
He's likeable but regardless of her "perceived beauty" her stuck on herself tendencies are what hurts him... Don't know how Drew Lock was any better than him his highlight reel against Dallas was a thing of beauty...
He just was never any good on the field. He will be in the USFL this season I would guess.
If he would’ve gone straight to UW he probably would’ve been a star.
I don't think he would've beaten out Jake Browning.
The moving around didn't help him.
@@creepycrespi8180 for sure
Hard to say but I don’t fault him for following his dream/aspirations. I just feel like he never really played with the kind of emotion you want out of a QB, though. He looked fired up for the Apple Cup and I feel like he played better because of it. Always wish for his success though, being from SnoCo myself.
Wtf didn’t Mark Richt recruit him to Miami 🤦🏻♂️
Remember that Ole Miss QB that blew out Eason's Bulldogs? (Chad Kelly) The NFL gave more chances to players over the years with much worse problems off the field than Kelly.
With Wentz injured he was QB 1 in camp until he played himself into a QB battle with a shorter 6th round rookie. He ended up squeaking by Ehlinger to be the backup mainly because of his tools rather than his play. Word was Eason had no grasp of the playbook. That INT was also so badly overthrown it was also right to the defender.
My guess as to why he was so quickly cut was that he ignored the play that was called and heroballed the INT.
as you say the window is so small. unless you are a very high draft pick, you might get zero chance to prove yourself. i am a davis webb guy. look at davis webb. preseaon MVP. had a lot to like about him in college. no one will put him on the field. he might have what it takes to be an NFL starting QB, but instead he will likely soon retire out of frustration.
He’s still on a practice squad. His career isn’t over over. Hell, somehow Josh Rosen is still around the league and Tyler Bray made ungodly amounts of money backing up Chase Daniel who also never played.
To clarify an earlier point, the Tony Eason “dad” referenced earlier as the QB of the Patriots was a product of the University of Illinois. He was the 15th overall pick in 1983 draft. No Domer here….thank goodness
Idk why people still pump up 5-stars and college players, the NFL is a different world compared to “amateur” ranks…we have a least five of these guys every two years
He’s on the niners, if anybody can get him on the right track, it’s Kyle Shannahan
That’s panthers starting QB Jacob Eason.
Good vid but Kirby chose Greyson Lambert over Eason at first…
you should clean up your editing. seems kind of lazy how you cut off and restart every video. there are a lot of creators with professional quality. gotta stick out man, because you have good content. but care about your viewers enough to give them a clean voice over.
I thought that Jake Browning was better and he wasn't even drafted.
49ers just signed him who Knows 💀
I was jus asking myself what happened to this guy and Bam you make a video. Thanks for reading my mind ha
He seemed like such a bargain in the 4th round. I thought the Colts might end up with a young Phillip Rivers.
Carolina has to give Eason a chance next season he is a game changer! He is not a draft bust!
Well now he is with Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers..
He battled it with Grayson lambert not bryce Ramsey
He wasn’t an nfl bust, just never developed
Kirby didn't want to play him at ga then once fromm hit the field it was over
For the algorithm! 🏈
Absolutely a bust in the NFL but not in college
What happened to De'Anthony Thomas?
