Thanks, Rip. Appreciate you setting everybody straight. About damn time. Now that we've cleared up any confusion, we can all get back to focusing on what's actually important and minding our own business. 👍💪🏼
Great info, Rip is a living legend. Haters in the comments may be big and fat (which helps with some lifts) but they’ll never have this man’s audience, dedication, or knowledge
They are becoming the bottom 5% now. Stupidity is becoming more and more prevelent. Ironically people have more access to information than ever yet we are getting stupider.
This was an excellent video, very informative. I really like this format of video that you have been doing more of. I don't know whats up with all the wacky comments! Here is someone trying to help people and this junk is what is being said???
It's not a lie. Looking up gets your posterior chain ready for action and primes your spine for compression. But always, whatever head position you use, keep it consistent throughout the lift. SS is much too ancient and rigid of a system. Old school training is great, but staying stuck in the 70's isn't good.
what the fuck is wrong with people on the comment section?I am not a fun of him,but he says a lot of useful things and there is no smart reason to talk shit like that
Not sure. I do wonder wtf is wrong with saying keeping your head up is a lie. It primes your posterior chain and prepares your spine to be compressed. Rip has a lot of great old school training methods, but about 30% of his ideas seem to be stuck in the 70's.
Rip is great, for the 10% of the time he spends these days on the subjects about which he is an expert. The other 90% of the time he's using his platform for ego-fueled opinionated commentary on subjects about which he knows nothing and/or smugly ridiculing and demeaning anyone whose goals, motivations or decisions he can't comprehend, or heaven forbid other experts who dare update, modify or contradict what he teaches, so I'd say he's made himself fair game for some comment section flaming. It isn't the "here's why we teach it this way" that people are reacting to, it's the "those people are idiots" comments he simply cannot resist throwing in. There was only one in this informative video, but in most of his stuff nowadays, it's the everyone who isn't me is an idiot content that dominates and the useful how-to stuff takes a distant back seat.
since 1996 I've been looking up as I ascend in the squat position and it's worked wonders for my squat. Your back is in it's natural position aligned as you go up?
I think it depends on the type of squat. I started squatting with a higher bar position and I find that keeping my eyes up and chest more upright helps with squatting. However with a low bar squat, I’ll keep my eyes down to help me stay leaned over in order to emphasize hip drive

Strictly speaking, it's not a lie, but it IS bad advice. Hyperextension of the neck combined with maximal loading of all the paraspinals is a recipe for eccentric disc compression and spinal nerve impingement trough the foramina. Also as he says, your equilibrium can be impaired, and for some, the vertebral arteries can be compressed. This can cause fainting. The head and neck should be in neutral position when training

If you look up, you flex your neck, which takes your spine out of alignment, so no.
@@lukecoomer9349pretty sure that looking up is the exact opposite of neck flexion.

Rusty cropped the bottom of Rips tub out of the shot for him.
Rip - who is the pretty young lady that adorns your video?
