  • In the ‘80s, ‘90s and ‘00s U2 was flirting with the title of ‘biggest band on the earth’. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr have surely made their marks. But what are the best albums by U2?
Some of the albums discussed in this video are War, Achtung Baby, Rattle And Hum, The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree.

For me their debut "Boy" is their best album. The energy and devotion were on its highest level. On 2 "Under a blood red Sky"( live) and on 3 "War". On 4 "The Joshua Tree"" and on 5 "Gloria"" their 2nd album.

I like your choices and I respect that you have Rattle and Hum at the top. It has lots of phenomenal songs, Van Diemens Land, Heartland, Angel of Harlem, Hawkmoon 269, All I Want Is You among others are some of my favourites in the catalogue. As an album experience however it's not personally one of my favourites although I do agree with every other pick you have high on the list. The opinion I have that differs is that I have Boy very high as I love the early period of U2 the most so my top 3 from first to third is War, The Unforgettable Fire and Boy with Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree close behind.
The people against U2 seems to display the attitude of people who support another's desire to rise and make a change however once they reach a position where they are able to actually make a difference in some way they turn against them for thinking they're too self righteous or that their ego is too big for their position.
I fear that U2 will not get the credit they deserve until one of them passes on or the band splits, or both. Like the Edge for example, he isn't a shredder of a guitarist. He does a great job of mixing textures and sounds together to create something new and literally inspire a generation. However he doesn't get the recognition as a guitarist because he doesn't do what a lot of other guitarists do. Why doesn't that make him different in a positive way for being unique to these people? I don't understand it.
U2 are a band that make very powerful music and were the soundtrack of my childhood. Songs of Innocence is an album that gets an unfair amount of hatred for something that has nothing to do with the actual music presented on the album and in my opinion isn't even close to their worst release considering the backlash received for it.

I think it will indeed be a matter of time before they are ‘cool’ again. It was not cool in the ‘70s to like the Beatles, they just were too big. Same thing counts for U2 I think.

Boy and Zooropa are indeed awesome! But you should give Rattle and Hum another chance. When it comes to live it really kicks!
