One thing that always baffles me - sunscreens are very expensive. To find a good non-irritating, non-sticky, elegantly looking sunscreen, you need to start with £25 (I'm UK based) and go up for 50/60 ml containers. Especially if you are looking for cruelty-free brands. Last summer I just bought a cheap broad-spectrum 'beach' sunscreen for outdoors activities and gave up looking 'good'.

Try Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Broad Spectrum Chemical Sunscreen. Their is a body and face one, their are the exact same thing. I put the body one on my face. The face one is more expensive and you get a smaller tube. They’re both the exact same thing.

You should talk about how Asia and Europe have more advanced chemical filters for better UVA protection than we have in the US. I recently started using the LaRoche Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid with Spf 50 and it supposedly has the most UVA protection of any sunscreen made. It’s also safe for sensitive eyes. You have to get the European version though to get the better UVA coverage.

Finding a sunscreen formulation that is effective, affordable, works on your skin cosmetically, doesn't burn your eyes or react badly with other products, and is ethical is so hard 😭. Moving away from a brand that has a good sunscreen but tests on animals, finding a sunscreen from another brand that performs really well and is cruelty free, only to find our that it is not environmentally friendly 😖, running out of places to look at this point. For what is hailed to be the most important step in your routine, it's ao difficult to find the right one that doesn't actually end up causing problems

When talking about reef safe sunscreens, please consider that sunscreen residue that you wash off in the sink or shower can find its way into waterways that can eventually reach the ocean, especially if you are in a coastal city or near a river that leads to an ocean (most of them do). So, even if you are not going to the beach and just using sunscreen in the city, it might be best to use reef safe options. The oceans are already dying and under threat from so many sources; do your part to not contribute to the problem.

It's worth noting that science actually says that aside from potentially zinc, sunscreen isn't affecting coral reefs. But even zinc doesn't seem to be enough in the oceans to affect reefs. The ocean is huge and mixes itself around a lot so the tiny tiny amount of sunscreen in the ocean hasn't been shown to be in anywhere near high enough amounts to affect coral reefs.

This is real-world adaptability and grace and rolling with the punches and I love to see it.

I am a transplant patient on immunosuppressants. So it’s super important for me to wear factor 50 sunscreen. Could you please do a post on sunscreens that you can wear over make up so I can top up in the day, especially as I’m working and often don’t have the time to remove make up, reapply sunscreen and fix my face again. Or are they even effective? It would be really good to know the science on this. Thank you so much for this informative post I found it REALLY helpful! Xoxo

When you have a play date and don’t shut You Tube off until they knock and start it back up as soon as they leave, the content is legit.
Would love to hear more about vitamin D. My neurologist tells me not to wear sunscreen, because I was diagnosed with MS and need more vitamin D. (I wear it anyway)
I should probably just get on pub med for some research to take to the next appointment.
Have you looked into Eucerin Daily Protection SPF 30? It’s not a kid sunscreen, but my kids like it more than any of the tear free, baby or kid ones we’ve tried.

I'm in love with littllextra riceberry sunscreen right now and I'm a big fan. I can apply a generous coat without feeling icky. It doesn't sting my eyes or taste awful if sweat drips into my eyes or mouth. The price is quite affordable compared to other facial sunscreens. For reference, I have mostly normal skin, slightly oily on my nose and chin, and mildly to moderately prone to acne unless I'm diligent with my skincare. I've been using it for a month and haven't had any breakouts or even an isolated large zit, so it's definitely not clogging my pores.

I love the swiss brand Louis Widmer ALL DAY. It truly protects me for a veryyyyy long time. It's a liposomal UVA+UVB sunscreen. It comes in 20-30-50 SPF. I use the 30 & 50 for my body. For my face I use Uriage Bariésun 50SPF or Uriage Hyséac 50SPF (which is great when you easily break out in the sun).

Reef safe sunscreen is basically just marketing. Sunscreen in the ocean (before any effort was made to change ingredients in sunscreen) were nowhere near high enough amounts to harm coral, the one study showing that was really flawed and not replicable. There are far far bigger factors at play affecting coral and that's where our energy should go. Zinc is the most likely to be a problem but despite less research into zinc affecting reefs, it's really not been shown to be enough concentrations to be a problem

  • @happygolucky6284

Can someone tell me. Does reef safe matter if you don’t plan to go swimming in the ocean? Just in my day to day wearing a sunscreen I don’t plan on going anywhere near the ocean. But does what I wash down the drain in the shower affect the reef? Serious question.

And also how often to reapply if outside most of the day, walking outside, in the sun?
I’ve heard from some that we shoud reapply once an hour, but then I’ve heard from others that once in the morning is fine.
    HELP!!
