Life saver...my Mom got my brothers laptop after he died 8 years ago, lots of pictures and stuff on it, my sister accidently installed a bios password and forgot what it was...I was just able to bypass that issue thanks to this video, my Mom (and sister) will be overjoyed to get his pictures and videos again (I will copy them to a thumbdrive just in case! They are not very tech savy)...thanks again!

    Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5200
Thank you, Brian, for uploading this helpful video. I went through every step in this video and believe it would have worked for me if I had not had a second password in Bios. A continued search for the solution led me to a better understanding of how to properly change or reset a password in Bios. Hope the info below helps someone out there.
If you know the password and just want to disable it from popping up all the time:
    - Boot up the machine and once the Toshiba logo pops up, press "F2" to get into the BIOS.
Note: I used F12 to access BIOS.
    - Navigate to HDD password option and press "Enter".
    - Enter the current password when prompted and press "Enter".
    - When prompted for new password, leave blank or enter new password and press "Enter".
    - Navigate to "Exit" and "Save All Changes".
The computer will restart and the HDD password should not pop up anymore.

you're a legend! spent hours researching how to fix this and this was the first thing I saw but I wasn't sure whether it was safe to do with a working laptop so i looked at other ways to do this but the other fixes were too complex for me as a beginner in IT troubleshooting. Thanks!

Thank you! Someone working in Office depo security or some local law enforcement criminal stole
a paper notebook that I was copying notes to file my IRS and Georgia taxes, after I copied pages and was
paying attention to other documents in another area. There has never been a single thing in my life that would justify this theft by tax-paid criminals, but the greedy tale is too long to relate. I was locked out of this older Toshiba Satellite for a couple years. I have 4 newer PCs and a Macbook, but it ticked me that those thieves deprived me of the use of a piece of my equipment. Now it is back up! Thanks again.

it worked. u can use a screw drive except for wire. also when it says "the firmware has detected that a cmos battery blah blah", be sure to press f1 (continue), holding the wire/screw driver on the two b500 slots. then it boots the os and u're done. thanks a lot for the helpful vid

@Ed Miller - We charge $85 (USD) to do this. And it depends on where you are in the UK, you can get more if you are in a larger city, more rural areas, you may have to reduce the pricing. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for commenting!

If you have a L350 L400 all the L450 there is no reset pins near the memory bay.... but there is two solder contacts near the memory slots but if you try to sort these pins you will kill your motherboard i try before so find out the hard way so you don't have to, but you can still reset your bios password by de-soldering the cmos battery from the motherboard waiting a few minutes then solder back on again this will clear your bios password.... could also work on other older models of toshiba satellites

For that you merely need to reset the video card. You do this by first removing the battery of the laptop and be sure it is unplugged. Next you press the power button and hold it pressed then plug in the power cord (NOT the battery yet), still holding the power button. then let go of the power button and push it to power on. it should boot right up, then you're good to put the battery back in.

I own a toshiba satellite a205-s5825 purchased new back in may2008, thing still runs tops to this day. This bios reset fix is im sure similar to mine and will come in handy if i ever BIOS password my system and forget the security code. One little gripe if i may, your the second video i've seen that a person has removed the battery from the laptop while its still on. In my opinion, it should be shutdown properly before performing the fix, but thats just me. Good job though...

As far as I know you cannot erase it by finding a way to drain the battery. There will be a jumper somewhere on the board, so this guys instructions work for most Toshiba's, but the problem is the jumpers are labelled differently and in different places on each model

For me, I was fixing someone elses laptop. But in doing so, I found that there was a bug in some Toshiba BIOS's, which cause the laptop to be locked with a password, even though the user hasn't set one. Toshiba did a recall on lots of models a few years ago.
I do not think this is your typical BIOS password though (its a white "Password:" text on black screen, rather than the usual blue dialog), but I was able to remove it by connecting a few jumpers all the same.

I am a lil confused yet on removing the ram card prior to the jump. ...Is it necessary? The one here is very fastened with plastic parts. I don't want to bust anything prying it free. The B500 points are visible and reachable as it is.
Also note there is another screw that fastens the hard drive before shutting its door.
