The madness of green has truly showed it's true thickness. Insurance companies must be laughing their heads off. There is a problem though. Most electric vehicles take a long time to charge and are rather expensive. While it might be more fire safe to charge it outside, it also likely to get stolen. There is a reason why you can't really own an EV if you don't own a home, hopefully with a garage. You can't exactly run an extension cord out the window and do it there.

Lucky for him, it was still under warranty, so the Rivian replaced it. It was a $34,000.00 replacement cost. Sounds like something I would take a pass on. • @johnkeepin7527
      @johnkeepin7527 Год назад +1

      That has already happened (not a battery fire) at least once. It did cause a lot of difficulties, with a reduced service using a large section of the other tunnel in both directions. I know there are two crossovers under the sea (a UK one, and a French one), and a couple more at each end. Both running tunnels are bi-directional, so if (or when) one of the sections is closed off, they can run a reduced service on the opposite one. They are basically isolated from each other, with the third tunnel, which is a service tunnel, between them.
      I think if there is a car fire en route, the last thing they would is to stop the train inside the tunnel. In the short term, it would largely be contained within the carriage in which it is being carried.

    Oh, dear Geoff, Pity you didn't wait before mouthing off
    After the fire on the car cargo ship off the Dutch coast, the media hastily identified an electric car as the cause. Now it turns out - that this is not true.
    Even though the cause of the fire is still unknown, the EV theory no longer holds up after the freighter was inspected. The lower four of the twelve decks are essentially undamaged, and about 1,000 cars, including the 498 electric ones, are in good condition. This is according to the chief of salvage company Royal Boskalis Westminster NV, Peter Berdowski.
    According to the head of the salvage company, the four uppermost decks, on which there were no electric cars, are so damaged that it is hard to walk on them and that the vehicles there (again, no EVs!) are literally fused to the ground. The affected carmakers are now investigating how their vehicles can be moved.
    The ‘Fremantle Highway’ is currently docked in Eemshaven in the Netherlands. Soon, the heavy fuel oil will be pumped out of the ship to prevent leakage and environmental pollution. The ‘Fremantle Highway’ can remain in the port until 14 October. Then it will have to be towed to another location - whether for repair or scrapping is not yet known.

    I previously worked as a Tesla "Brand Ambassador" delivering new cars and showing the owners the functions before signing them over. As a long time car enthusiast who has worked in the trade in different capacities and driven many, many cars, I have this to say. Teslas assembled in Holland were badly put together with massive panel gaps and unfastened bolts and nuts. Charging was a nightmare as I had to often travel in the opposite direction to get charged and spend time in places I'd rather not have; like supermarket car parks or motorway services.
    Teslas have in my opinion two good things. Vivid acceleration, (but who needs to get from 0 to 60 in 5 secs?) and good storage space. They are wooden to drive and the centre control touch screen is a massive distraction, much more so than a mobile phone. The interiors feel and looks plastic. If you run out of juice or get a flat you have to be trailored away.

    Fantastic video as always. Another item of concern you can add to your list is the fact that car companies are now stating in the car user manuals not to go near the electric car or the charger when plugged in on charge if you’ve a pacemaker device or alike as the electric magnet field it creates can and has already done so, set them off! Real good for your health then!! 🤦🏻‍♂️ keep the great content coming.

    Hi Geoff really enjoyed your take on the loss In value in electric cars at the moment. It’s clear to see they are tanking which has got me looking at the used market. I’ve considered an Kona EV it appears to be one of the better miles per charge Evs for around 20k used on low miles. With the loss If value in mind what would you say to me as a current diesel driver spending on average £2,500 a year on fuel plus the odd mechanical repair and service being a 2011 BMW. Over the course of 3 years in the EV I could be looking to save £7500 on fuel. With the ability to charge for free at work and Cheaply at home. Do you think the lose in value is now worth it? Thanks!

    Let's get some context here. This is of course a tragic event, but what Geoff doesn't mention is that Cars are dangerous. Feel free to do your own research, but each year more than 1,350,000 people die globally from road traffic crashes - so an awful event like this pales into insignificance in terms of likelihood of death and injury due to motor vehicles. Of course, exploration, refinement and transport of oil has its dangers too. In the UK alone there are over 35,000 fires of vehicles (not due to fires started deliberately). From what I've researched (AutoInsuranceEZ) the most at risk of catching fire are hybrids, then petrol/diesel, and the least likely are electric cars - by a significant amount. It is, of course true, that EV fires are far far more difficult to put out, and clearly much needs to be done to look at this. Enjoy your RUclips break Geoff - I should probably do the same !!!
