- Fix Corrupt Files and Disk Errors with Chkdsk /SpotFix in Windows 8
CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]] [/B] [/scan] [/spotfix]
Volume: The drive letter, or volume name, remember that colon (D:).
/F Fixes errors on the disk.
/V Displays cleanup messages if any.
/R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies /F, when /scan not specified).
/L:size Changes the log file size to the specified number of kilobytes. If size is not specified, displays current size.
/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary.
All opened handles to the volume would then be invalid (implies /F).
/I Performs a less vigorous check of index entries.
/C Skips checking of cycles within the folder structure.
/B Re-evaluates bad clusters on the volume (implies /R)
/scan Runs a online scan on the volume
/forceofflinefix (Must be used with "/scan") Bypass all online repair; all defects found are queued for offline repair (i.e. "chkdsk /spotfix").
/perf (Must be used with "/scan") Uses more system resources to complete a scan as fast as possible. This may have a negative performance impact on other tasks running on the system.
/spotfix Runs spot fixing on the volume
/sdcleanup Garbage collect unneeded security descriptor data (implies /F).
/offlinescanandfix Runs an offline scan and fix on the volume.
Note: that many parameters imply other parameters. Incidentally, you have to precede the parameter with a forward slash (/), and not a dash (-).

I know all about the time wasted waiting for scandisk to complete at the shop i work. You don't need to do this if u got a SSD drive. but i have used on my older drives every 1-2 months and still working great. it's well worth it.

Thanks mate I work in IT this took all of 15 minutes. Saving the usual long wait of the standard CHKDSK /R /F will remember for future use! :D

Im a bit sceptical on this form of chkdsk, bit too quick.
But its still good to know that microshaft have left the basic tools there in pseudo dos :-)

After doing chkdsk /scan,I received a message "A snapshot error occurred while scanning this drive. Run an offline scan and fix"
And when I did that,another message popped up "cannot lock current drive, windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected" What do I do?!

When I ran chkdsk /scan it found corrupt files, then promptly said 'repaired online'. So these seems to go against the claim that /scan doesn't fix anything.

I have a couple of errors on some video files on my external hard drive, will this scan the items on the external hard drive and the internal or just the internal hard drive?

The FASTEST way to get to CMD is right click the bottom left corner of the screen in Windows 8. Then click Command Prompt (Admin).

My pc has a problem in which the wifi becomes limited a few minutes after you turn it on and then it just shows "no networks shown" and some times it showes troubleshooter i have tried many tutorials but none of them have worked, if you could please tell me how to fix it i would be really happy cause i have been facing this problem for quite long, i have been struggling to attend classes since it disconnects me almost in less then a minute after i join, could someone reply if you know how to fix it? will this work with a portable hdd? I have one but it has no format. It doesnt appear at the windows explorer and when I run the windows disk utility, I cant format it or do anything else.
I have the surface book and and running windows 10. I ran sfc scannow and windows found corrupt files that couldn't be fixed. I ran the chkdsk scan and it said no errors but spot fixed anyway to see if it fixed any errors. I still run sfc scan and keep getting the same error message. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
hi!i have a problem on my win 8.1 when doing /scan from cmd findes no problem just like the video!but when restarts and "scanning and repairing" is stucking at 10%...my hdd it has no problem i have checked with sentinel and other programs but finding no prb...do u heard about this..have any ideea how to solve?

Actually its not windows 8 its a program called Start8. I use this start button. It just uses the GUI of windows 8 to look like its natural. Cost like 5 bucks. ;)

Where can I find the spotfix log? Lookingn in event viewer under chkdsk logs doesnt seem to show the results of a spotfix
I did the chkdsk and spot fix. Both have no errors. I tried to mount a file through msdos box bt got a message saying the file could not be mounted because its corrupt. Why didnt the spotfix and chkdsk fix this? What made this file corrupt? How do I fix this?

help, i used the command "chkdsk /f /r" and when i rebooted it strted the chkdsk and it has been on 27%for about 24 hours now. it is not frozen, the dots are swirling. i read that it takes long time and that people have waited 3 days.

hi there, i have tried to do this several times through the action center in windows but no matter how many times i try, the message will always pop up again and again. Does this mean that i have a faulty HDD? Also, on occasion i have gotten the BSOD a few times. I've tried system restores, refreshes, i have updated all of the drivers more time than i can count now please help me if you can sorry if this is too vague.
Is it possible to just download a reboot on the windows 8 to default? This is annoying...

Britec thank you fot the video but unfortunately even after following the steps you've outlined my PC is still bringing up the Kernel Data Inpage Error that I was trying to fix.
Someone please help because my laptop won't boot W8 it came with it and when auto repair came I chose reset and I cleared files and I tried the whole computer before that and wouldn't work but after the files reset it says Install Windows ( when I boot up ) The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

I tried to repair my drive due to the BSOD KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and when it was running the scan/repair it stayed at 27% forever.. So I decided to just shut my PC down

I really wished someone would make a video with more of advanced solution..anyone can run the options and chkdsk.. No one talks about what to do when windows will not fix the logical tiny bit of data on 1 bad sector. The cbkdsk /F/R spotfix none of these cheesy tools work.. It seems to me that i used to be able to identify which sector was bad on my computer and that way you could target that specific cluster..but, Microsoft sucks..they could care less is we lose 6 yrs plus 1 tb of data. It is nothing them..they only want your money when you buy something new
