    After doing some research to catch up on all things "Mustang" (considering getting another one after many, many years), I've come to the conclusion that the 99-04 pushrod V6 Mustang is the best bang for your buck DIY friendly "hotrod" of this age. The pushrod design is extremely reliable, more simple and a lot cheaper to work on (or even rebuild it yourself if you have to), just powerful enough to be fun, obviously able to be improved with bolt ons, all the way up to superchargers, turbos and nitrous, RWD, lighter than the V8 which is better for handling, cheaper on insurance and gas, cheaper to buy, and can be made to look just as good as the GT.
    There is virtually NOTHING that comes close to matching this by any manufacturer available to Americans.

      @HAL-dm1eh 2 года назад +8

      @@njt-7328 I got a 2002 5 speed since I made that comment and been busy restoring it as needed so I haven't made any performance mods yet. If it were an automatic the first thing I'd do is put 3.73 or 4.10 gears in it and a performance tune.
      One thing I'd like to do to mine is get high flow catted dual exhaust, ported heads and intakes and top that off with 1.7 roller rockers. That would be good for up to 60 hp, not counting a cam.
      One tip on handling. Our 99-04 V6 cars were the only Mustangs in history that didn't come with a rear sway bar. Get one off any 79-98 (all) or 99-04 (GT) to tighten her up a little more. Very cheap handling mod I've already made for mine.

      @ALPHA-AG-yi3mg 2 года назад

      Got rid of the stock upper an lower intake manifolds, got a 04 ford freestar lower intake manifold an upper intake manifold then max ported those 2, so in reality I went from 12 small intake runners 2 for each cylinder down to 6 big intake runners 1 for each cylinder plus a max port on each, see you have to port the top and bottom of lower intake then port lower intake bottom gasket's to match, then port upper intake manifold an match port gasket on it as well, same with Throttle body port it then match the gasket if you do not match the gaskets to the ports then it's all fully pointless cause of air flow restriction also it all has to be very smooth texture wise.

      You can turn the upper intake on the wind star motor a full 360 to use it on the 99-04 v6 mustangs
      Only thing is with the lower intake it has 1 extra coolant arm that you'll have to connect to a T with the coolant line beside it or block off either one.

    Sorry if offending any V6 SN95 owners, but a base 2.5 Duratec V6 from a Contour can keep up and may beat this SN95 V6. A base 2.5 V6 can make close to 170hp stock and has a torque number of 165ft-lbs. To be honest, Ford should've put the 3.0 Duratec V6 in the Mustang, very light and has anywhere between 200-240hp. The 3.0 Duratec will be the engine that will replace my 2.5 SVT V6 in my daily Contour, once the engine has lived a good life, I will put the old SVT block on a shelf.

    A higher pressure Fuel pump, gets more fuel into engine. A 4 liter from a ford truck might fit?

    • @Long-nd8bq
      @Long-nd8bq Год назад

      doesn't matter if the car can't use the extra fuel. Injectors are only so large and they are only tuned for a certain injector pulse. If you aren't running out of injector, then the pump is fine. If you need more fuel or your injectors are big enough for your HP goal but you keep leaning out then you upgrade the pump. The return style fuel system sends constant pressure to the fuel rail and whatever the injectors don't send into the engine gets sent back to the tank. If your stock pump goes out then throw a Walbro 190 LPH or 255 LPH in there for good measure as it gives you room to grow with future modifications.

    What about a Freestar upper and lower intake swap? Is it worth it?
    Is there a better after market upper/ lower intake and plenum kit available yet? Because quite frankly, the intake set-up is miserably balanced and flows like a haphazardly pinched hose. Is there a more straight on air introduction technique? An enquiring mind has to know.

      DVJFan The T-Bird SC’s version of it weren’t so wimpy though. Wish Ford would’ve used the same forged internals on the stangs as well to at least make it safer to boost them past 8-11 psi.

    I see all the comments about crank horsepower and wheel horsepower.
    If it boosted the wheel hp by 15 does that mean like 30 at crank? How does it scale? Seems like a lot for so little.
    But going from like 190 to 220 crank hp?
    Just confused about the two.

    • @lifepresent3183

      15 at the wheel doesn't mean 30 at the crank. But yes you have the right idea. I've heard that from the flywheel to the wheels you loose about 20%-30% roughly. The only way to tell exactly, is to dyno the engine out of the car ,then Dyno the car with the engine back in it.

      I have a 2000 lx. AM has the suspension parts. And some good engine mods. No the v-6 are not fast. They can be if you have the money to boost it. I just take out my falcon if I want to go fast. But the v-6 does have it's good points. Like it is 100 lbs lighter than the v-8 up front. They are easy to make them really handle on the curves. Add a new gears will really help with the take off as the six is slow off the line.

    Around 200 dollars for the cold air and the coil pack. Add what they spent on dual exhaust. All for 15 TQ? All the improvement was due to programing. This guy talks about "getty up" REALLY. The money to improvement ratio is NOT stoichiometric.

    • @jmanjman6775
      @jmanjman6775 10 лет назад

      "The money to improvement ratio is NOT stoichiometric." comment was a smart ass way of saying the guys spend a lot of money for little improvement. I wasn't inferring that the cold air intake was going to change the air fuel ratio. Nothing against Ford, I'm a ford tech. realistically the fact is its a V6 that was designed in the nintys and put in a mustang to appeal to people who couldn't afford a V8 package or had a touch of tree hugger in them and still wanted to look cool. its not a V8 and dosent produce a great deal of anything. its not a ECOBOOST. But you were right about forced air induction. you can do anything with enough money.

      ***** It's not as simple as swapping pullies and bolting on a s/c from a Thunderbird 3.8.
      The T-bird & SN95 3.8 bottom ends are the same, but they have different heads. T-birds have single-port intakes, while SN95s have split-port intakes (on the heads, that is).
      To do the swap, you'd have to replace the better-flowing Essex split-port heads with the inferior single-port T-bird heads, just to bolt on the s/c. Any gains you get from the swap would be used mopping up the losses you got from the heads.
      For the SN95 3.8, the best thing for power gains is to do your standard bolt ons (CAI, LT headers, delete cats, aftermarket mufflers, tune, better plugs, wires, & ignition coil), then swap the cam out with an aftermarket either from CompCams or SuperSixMotorsports.
      It also makes a world of difference to port/polish the heads & intakes.
      SSM dynoed a stock 3.8 gaining 80 HP from an aggressive cam & ported heads/intakes. (I think the valvetrain was rebuilt with CompCams components).
      They can also be bored .050" over and stroked to a 4.3 by using a stock crankshaft out of the 4.2 V6 that came in late 90s F-150 trucks.
      Bump your compression to 10.5:1, forge the internals and you've got an engine capable of making 300 hp at the crank, easy.

      *****
      Thanks.
      I'm actually not a big stroker - I've been mostly a mildly-modded kind of person since I do autocross.
      I broke a connecting rod in my 3.8 and the cylinder wall was damaged, so figured it was as good of a time as any to build a stronger engine.
      I actually didn't know the 3.8 could be stroked to a 4.3 until I started delving into options for forged builds.
      I figured since I've got it torn apart anyway, may as well go all out.
