  • After walking around for a few hours in the morning, jumped on a tram in Hakaniemi heading to Helsinki Central Station to catch the train to the airport.
    Once at the airport, spent some time in the Finnair Platinum Wing Lounge, where a few drinks, and a tasty Reindeer Burger was enjoyed.
    Boarding the @finnair A350-900 to Tokyo (Haneda) was done at a remote stand, which gave an amazing view of the aircraft and its massive engines.
    Take off was quick, and before long dinner was served.
    Not long after, the cabin lights were dimmed, and most settled in to get some sleep on the long 13hr+ flight.
    However, a few of us kept an eye out the windows for something special.
    The sky was dark above the arctic, but soon it was lit up with vibrant green and red northern lights. With the naked eye, you could only vaguely see misty like formations, but doing the best I could with an iPhone, managed to get some photos, far batter than I expected.
    Some people travel a long way to Norway, Iceland, Sweden & Finland to see the Northern Lights, and leave without seeing them due to cloud cover, low electrical atmospheric activity, etc etc, and we got to see it from 42,000ft.
    "WOW!!!"
    After a few hours of hoping for something else, it was time to get some sleep, before waking up for Breakfast than landing in Tokyo (Haneda)
    All filmed on the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max

      @@ausflyer I will, you too! By the way, do these chairs recline at all? I wonder how comfortable they are to sleep in them?

      @@lunarcowboy9275 They actually have quite a good recline. I must remember on my next flight in a Finnair A350 to video the recline (and some of the other seat features).

      Finnair were great to fly with, and I have a few flights coming up with them over the next few weeks which I will upload here soon after. And flying over the North Pole was special, add to that the Northern Lights. I just wish it was easier to take photos through a window.

    Those coordinates are around 160 km /100 miles from north pole.

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  Год назад

      The coordinates listed are what the normal polar route takes. The pilot did mention we were approx 7-10km from the true magnetic North Pole. I believe there is a video on RUclips by Flightradar24 that flies within 1-2k, of the True North Pole with someone filming the before and after procedures in the cockpit.

    doing this flight next month, first time on finnair:) did yous take the polar route going over or the southern route?

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  6 дней назад

      The flight over was with Japan Airlines and it flew the Polar Route but some distance South of the actual North Pole.

      @@ausflyer interesting, i know it mainly depends on the winds and weather taking the polar route, will have to wait and see
