- Today, we’ll go over the long-haul economy class flight experience onboard an Airbus A350-900 from Helsinki (HEL) to Singapore (SIN). This video will first go over some trip background and how we chose Finnair over competing airlines. We’ll then move on to reviewing the actual flight. And then, at the very end, we’ll wrap things up by offering some thoughts and opinions on the Finnair long-haul experience in this particular cabin class. So, let’s get started…

Note: A spokesperson for Finnair confirms that the offering of a single meal option (in addition to taking complimentary pre-orders for special meals for special diets and allergies) is a strategy for waste reduction. The carrier found that, when a second option was offered, a lot of food ended up becoming waste - which didn't fit with its ethos.
The spokesperson for Finnair perhaps should realise that a frequent flyer who is well travelled can spot this strategy from miles away as pure “cost cutting”.
There is a fine line between an airline being sustainably focussed vs. An airline just being so damn cheap (i.e. can’t be bothered to spend a dime on catering) - unfortunately Finnair falls on the latter category, no matter how much their PR/Marketing team wants to spin this as a “positive” thing - they can’t trick the more well versed traveller.
Unfortunately their fantasy “sustainability” cost cutting strategy may work in Economy but this is absolutely a disaster in Business class where you pay almost the same price as ME3 but offered just ONE option for your second meal on a 14h flight……..
I’m sorry but I ain’t buying the whole “sustainability” BS. People can get very very “creative” when it comes to cost cutting.
Their so called “Ethos” is none other than “cost cutting is in our DNA” but hey let’s mask all that behind a sustainable BS (excuse) strategy.
@@UKabroad1967 What's the problem? You can pre-order a specific meal if you need something special.
@@Anttonilla it has nothing to do with special (diet restriction) meals rather to do with having no choice of meals on board. Every single airline out there flying long haul offers you 2 or more choices for your main meal. Please stop excusing Finnair for their cost cutting.
@@UKabroad1967 there are three meal options offered onboard in business class.
@@LongHaulbySimpleFlying only for the first meal. There is no choice for the second meal regardless of flight length, one tray slop only.
I'd definitely consider flying with them. They have my favourite aircraft.
Yes i would like to use Finair
Finnair has a unique and interesting business class seat setup, without a reclining back support...
I mean, it kind of does make sense. Less electronics = less weight = increased performance. As an exclusively Ryanair flyer, I can’t rly say that it’s better than other business classes, but I’d say it’s ‘innovative’
Finnair has a pretty good quality-price ratio, also in Business class. On Finnair's HEL-SIN/HKG routes the cabin crews are all outsourced, there's no service available in Finland's official languages Finnish/Swedish. It seems the Finnish passengers don't mind but just imagine if they tried this on AF flights :D
I was surprised to find an all Asian crew on my flight too. It did feel exploitative to me, I must say.
Before the war and Covid my family and I used Finnair so many times to fly to Hong Kong from Germany. They always had good food onboard and cheap prices. The reduction of flight time to Asia from Europe was their biggest advantage but unfortunately they are not able to use it now. But I would still consider flying with especially with their new A350s my favourite aircraft
Enjoyed the video, as a long time Finnair fan. When flying Finnair economy long haul, I always pack snacks. The service is always good though.
*Flight from hell* totally no pun intended! 😂
Took last Nov 2022 from fin back home. Was decent
Took this flight recently. Can highly recommend seats 52A/L in Economy. The in the row behind the main exit row but with no seat in front, so have all the leg room you could want, bit without feeling exposed to passers by.
Nice report, thanks for this video 🙂
Remember when IFE consisted of a newspaper
Remember when we used smoke signals?
What's your fucking point here?
They have to make it over the pandemic recovery, but what a beautiful cabin even in economy in its simplicity. Great video.
I have flown on finnair twice, as a Finnish citizen I must say I'm proud of finnair. Although not being the fanciest airline it offers very good service on their flights. It's a shame i didn't try out their blueberry juice when I flew but I will definitely do it next time I fly with Finnair!

Love your flight review. Please keep making more. Keep up the good work.
Glad that you guys make this flight review. I am also considering if I should fly to Paris with Finnair or Turkish Airlines this summer.
I've flown Finnair in business class on their older A330, which was decent enough. However, it's unlikely that I'd go out of my way to try their economy class product unless they had a fare that couldn't be refused.
Thanks. You have given the useful information about the seat legroom and comfort level. I am looking for such info. 🙏
I've taken this flight several times and I find the seats and cabin environment a lot more comfortable than other airlines like Emirates that have a 3-4-3 configuration. The meal option from Singapore to Helsinki is better than this Helsinki to Singapore route. I really don't like the chicken quinoa and I don't like the lentil filling in the otherwise tasty lasagna. The entertainment selection is limited compared to Middle Eastern carriers and Singapore Airlines. That said, the overall experience is still quite good in my opinion and I often look forward to my next flight on Finnair.
Considering the price difference between Finnair and Turkish i don't think the flight was all that bad. And it was on an A350 compared with an old Turkish 773.
Finnair's excellent safety record is also one thing to take into consideration when choosing the carrier.
I’ll never ever fly them again. When buying tickets, it seems the flight is pretty affordable but then you have to add all the extras like baggage and food and you turn up with a price higher than Qatar’s. Imagine that this is an airline that charges additionally for luggage in business class. YES! You can buy business class tix with carry on only. The food they’re serving on 11 hrs flight is dreadful and portions are ridiculously small. It’s basically Ryanair’s quality with premium price.
As a Finn, I hope you gave feedback via net. Also as all things in Finland, options and all other things should be handled only via internet. Finnair usually offers Premium Economy with the same price as economy if booked beforehand and available - via internet.
Thanks a lot for the profound review! Our family has been flying with Finnair also for several times from Hong Kong to Helsinki and back, also from Helsinki to my home country Estonia. We’re planning to fly again. Like many mentioned, I’ll keep an eye on the blueberry juice next time. Want to try, weird that have missed out it so far 😛
Good job 👍
Greetings from Helsinki ❄️ Finland
Timing of this video couldn’t have been better. I will be flying Finnair from Amsterdam to Mumbai via Helsinki on their A330 in 2 days. Thankfully i have pre-selected my meal.
Flew HEL-BKK in the A350 in 2017 and the flight was far at the moment the worst of all my flights to Asia until 2023 when I flew AMS-BKK in a KLM’s 777.
Having flown twice a year to Asia for the last 10 yrs (excluding Covid times), always Economy, there is no doubt for me that the fare of European carriers has to be significantly lower than Middle East airlines for me to chose them.
We flew this very plane and route a week ago in the new Premium Economy. Mixed affair overall with some issues.
I am thinking of taking finnair premium economy class - would you recommend it? I will be flying from Asia to Europe on the A350.
@@mckw533 it's better than most other PE seats out there. I'd pre-book food as they ran out on my flight and I had no choice. Great headphones.
Don't forget to go to back if plane as staff often leave out snack to take.
The price is the main reason I choose Finnair, but in flight service does make it seem like a budget airline. Long haul on Qatar, Turkish Airlines and Qantas does give the passengers a much better experience with more choices in my opinion
Voiko jyrsijä hypätä moottoriin?
I love Finland finnair
I wonder if movies has same other language or sub expect english?
As a frequent flyer, I don't know if I could have eaten the food. Neither dish looked or sounded good to me. Like you said most airlines offer two options. This is one reason I always carry me some snacks with me. The seats look comfy but flight entertainment screen is tilted back which would make it harder to see the screen if the seat in front of you was reclined since the screen can't be adjusted. So, I'll pass but thanks for the review.
You could just recline your own seat…
Singapore would hand me one amenity kit If requested.
Nicked a few dental kits...
Flew with Finnair from Heathrow to Bangkok via Helsinki (return) over Christmas. It was all fine except for the meals. The quality of the food is very good but the portion sizes are tiny. On this 12 hour flight two tiny meals is not good enough. You do have the option to buy overpriced food when you inevitibly get hungry. Also the wood cutlery is not very pleasant to use, feels like a cheapskate option.
For this alone I wont be using them again which is a shame as the rest of the experience was fine.
As someone with coeliac disease, I would be reluctant to fly with them because of the food.
Finnair has a gluten-free meal option available; it just needs to be pre-ordered at least 24 hours before the flight.
@@LongHaulbySimpleFlying Good to know!
Flying over the Black Sea during a war. What could possibly go wrong?
a quoi sert d avoir une cabine plus dans l air du temps quand le principal a savoir la restauration est médiocre la comparaison entre finnair et turkish en eco ne tiens pas au niveau de la restauration en effet turkish est largement superieur a finnair dans ce domaine
Food looked yuck
The worst customer experience with Finnair. We will recommend to avoid flying with this company.
What happened?
Nice video! 😍
