Raga Brindabani Sarang | Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia | (Album: The Last Word In Flute) | Music Today

  • An internationally acclaimed flautist of India, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is an artiste par excellence who is known for his outstanding contribution in popularizing Indian Classical Music all over the world. His consummate artistry has distinguished him as the greatest living master of the North Indian Bamboo Flute.
This raag is based on Kaafi Thaat. It was created by Swami Haridas. It is believed that he brought Lord Krishna to earth by singing this raga who took the form of an idol which can still be seen in Mathura.
The notes Ga and dha are not used in this raga (but there are some schools of opinion that applies dha as well in a particular way) . Its origin from thaat Kaafi is peculiar as it uses the shuddha form of “ni” in its Aaroha, whereas the komala form of “ni” and “ga” is the main characteristic of the Kaafi thaat. So it forms its resemblance to the ragas based on thaat Khamaj.

Veena and Flute are two melancholy instruments. It's like crying for something that doesn't exist, waiting for something that will not come or calling something that hasn't gone. These 2 instruments can touch and heal every cell in your body. No other instruments connected with me more than these 2.

I used this and other flute renditions to sooth my infant granddaughter whenever she had colic pain in the evening - and it happened every evening. The colic tendency subsided in three months but she has become an ardent fan of classical music played on flute. Now she is six month old and sleeps only with flute being played in the background. Coos along too, which is super cute.
Also, it is surprising , that she does not like the same music played on sitar, sarod or Santoor. Only flute.

Brinda vani sarang is an original Hindustani raaga ...Tradition attributed to the sound emanating from lord Krishna's flute in brinda van...It echoes all the 7 swaras hence "brindavana sarang"...A rainbow of colours emanating in the sky with one drop of rain in sun light...Same way...7 swaras end up in Krishna's flute...How beautiful..

THIS level of soul-soothing melody has not been heard by me. And I've been listening to Pure Music for 45-50 years. The core that touches one, in this case, is (1) the notes-combination of "Saarang (Raaga) family" itself & (2) the BANDISH that Pandit Hariprasadji has presented from a treasure*. Extremely sensitive accompanying flute takes the experience to a sublime level.
547 connoisseurs who thought/felt/expressed that this could have been (still) better, form 4.64% of 1,177,705 aficionados who 'wistened' (watched+listened). I respect them and want to meet each one of them. To understand their expectations. For example, did they find it repetitive? Too short / too long? Not ending with usual fast tempo? What is it? Not-great recording quality? State, please. Be specific.
Dear RUclips, have a provision to give reasons / details of the thumbs down response!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    * Another gem of this Variety (Vrindavani) is by Pandit Bhimsenji. That 'music can actually re-create an atmosphere (right up to time, place & not just temporary mood)' is proven by such stalwarts.

This music make me realise that love has no boundaries....I was so involved with the music that it gave me a meditative state with stimulation in mind and soul .. later I find the description box saying that this music was known to attract god I feel it is true and I felt that God arrives in our souls with the music as conciousness... I am with no talent to give any comments on a maestro who can bring such heavenly peace with his creation.. I can only be a silent listner and respect him from my innermost.........it was my first time listening to this music and it gave me so much of thought to me that I could not remain silent without writing.....sorry for the elongated comment of mine..but it is just my feelings after listening which I feel can't fully described in words ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wow, what an absolutely mesmerizing performance by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia! 🎶 The way he breathes life into Raga Brindabani Sarang is simply incredible. The depth of emotion and skill in his flute playing is unparalleled. It's moments like these that make you appreciate the true beauty of Indian classical music. Thank you for sharing this gem🙏✨

I have enjoyed meditating with this music in the back ground . I go deeper in to silence longer than usual . I love both the father and his son for enchanting us beautifully . Helps a lot for beginners when they concentrate on the music undisturbed.RP

@@villagevboy7106 I am far from India and for me projects like "Shakti" of John Mclaughlin was the gateway to Indian music. I think World needs more East-West projects where from both sides you have masters.

One should try to embrace many forms of music. There is so much to choose from. I'm "western" and i enjoy western music, but i also love this music just as much.
