Thanks for the part number. It was a big help. FYI if you take the two 13mm bolts out of the bracket that holds the cable to the transmission there is no need to remove the battery tray. I was able to move the cable from under the battery tray and pop the bushing in...Good video. I'm subbing.

@@deannastanleypleasesubscri5940 Same here! This is a great video. You are literally the only person showing how to remove that frustrating tray! Thanks so much
How did you get the bushing to fit into the shifter cable? I've been having a hell of a time to get it to link up. It's hella snug trying to get it inkt the cable, then it don't wanna clip all the way onto that metal knob that actually moves
Deemer Luck , it was extremely hard and took forever to get it to fit, but you will eventually get it. Soapy water, heat the plastic. I believe there is finally a recall notice for this issue.
Thank you so much. That damn tray was kicking my ass. I couldn't figure out how to take that off so I was working in the dark under it. I can kiss your feet right now. Thank you.
Update, I busted the battery tray in half. Found two more 13mm bolts in the middle on it, looks impossible to remove without removing the tranny, Got it all jb welded back together now gonna wait until the morning to finish. Bought new bushing from autozone like your video said. Thanks for the help DeAnna!
I'm reading all these threads because it just happened in my 2014 SXT 2.4 stranded in a hot parking lot. And guess what happened? God sent along a mechanic just waking by. After an hour plus of failed attempts to rig up something, anything (dumbass me took my tools out of my trunk the night before), he got me into drive for the 18 miles ride home to bumfuk. Used emergency brake, turned off Dart, can't take key out. Now it's dark out, motor hot, life's a bitch. But I'll gitter rigged with a wire or tie wrap tomorrow.
I just has to do this to my 2013 Dart SXT. The bolts needed to make the battery tray move enough to get to the gear shift cable, is NUTS! There were these two plus others on the opposite side. The only comment I have to add was that I used the part that was referenced by someone else but did not work. I had to go to AutoZone to find it. The part you need is 14041, it's a pedal and shift linkage bushing kit. One of the smaller ones will fit right in and it only cost $7 (with tax here in Texas). It is a pain to do and it took me a while to get it all done and it was mainly trying to get the battery tray moved. Hope this helps fellow dart owners.
It's the same cost here in Florida. I replace the bushing the first go-around. It lasted for about a week and popped again. That's why I ended up rebuilding my entire shift cable.
Thanks, we stuck in 90’ heat fighting this. When we finally got to the linkage it was just a bad bushing so I called the dealership to go get the part. Well it seems there is recall for this part but Dodge has not figured out how to fix. They gave me the recall number. We rigged it up. Why replace a 150.00 part when it only a 5.00 bushing. Thanks for the video we would have never took the wheel well out.
Thank you for the info, I was able to fix my wife's car. Personally I decided to take a short cut and used a multi-tool to cut through the battery tray. I'm really disappointed in the cheap part in this location. I'm going to get a backup replacement part just in case.
Omg your AWESOME DeAnna!!! I live in Fort Lauderdale we were on vacation in Key West this past weekend and got lost last night. We tried to turn around and get out the dead end we hit and this issue occurred with the gear shifter we got stuck in drive. My husband was clueless lol but i thought like always RUclips. Our phone service sucked where we were which made it worse but i told him we NEED to watch this video so we can get home. Your video saved us alot of time and money!!!! Now we are back home and I'm trying to figure out how to fix this thing on my own while he's at work lol. You think I can do it without removing the battery? Do you have a video on how you fixed it?? Again THANK YOU SO MUCH your a life saver YOU ROCK!!!!!!
How did u wedge the bushing in ? I can not figure out how to pop it in. I’ve tried pliers and pushing it in with my fingers it just won’t go in it half way go in and pop right out!!
It's very tricky. It took me a while to get it in. I used a pair vice grips and a c clamp. But ultimately, ended up rebuilding the entire shift cable. I took the gear out and chiseled and hammered the old pin out. Then I took a screw, that had a flat part to the bolt, I cut it down 2 size and filed it. Drilled out the hole to fit the new screw. I went with a larger size than the one that was already in there. then I welded a new bolt to the bottom of it. And rebuilt the entire cable. I'd be more than happy to help you, where are you located?
I use a pair of vice grips. And I put a rubber grommet in the middle to tighten it. But I ended up rebuilding my entire shift cable gearbox. I took out the old pen with a hammer and a chisel. And I took an old screw and cut the head off and some of the thread but left a few threads on. Then I sanded down both the ends after I cut it. I went with a size 14 screw. Then I drilled out a new hole in the gear. Then I drill a small hole in the top of the new pin I built. And the top Bowl, I went with a size 6 drill bit. For which I used to cotter pin. Then put the new bushing on the cable with a rubber grommet in the middle of it. And connect it that with my new pin that I built on the gearbox. I welded the pin to the gear with a bolt to the bottom of it. By doing so, it never slipped off again.
If your car is not engaging in park and it will not shut off. Then more than likely you will have to fix your shifter. There's a little plastic covering you can pop off and then you get a screwdriver and you go in the inside of it and you pop it back in place. A large amount of play in the shifter could indicate that the shifter is malfunctioning or broken. A failing shifter can be difficult to put into park, or any other gear. ... This can cause the vehicle to not shift into park, or other gears, depending on where the blockage falls.
DeAnna, Thank you for the video! I have been looking everywhere on how to remove the battery tray and haven't found anything until your video! Unfortunately, the GM bushing did not fit my 2014 GT cable. We tried filing it down a little, we tried forcing it in with pliers, still wouldn't work. I had to order the actual bushing from bushingfix.com. Let me ask you though, I had the bushing replaced August 2018 and it just broke again. Do you happen to know why it's wearing out so quickly?
Yes but you have to fill it with a rubber grommet and rebuild the gear shifter. That's what I did. And I built a new pin and drilled out a hole for a cotter pin. It works beautifully!
I just tried this bushing part on my 2014 GT and it DID NOT fit. It was too big. Even tried using pliers to push it into the cable and it wouldn't go in.
