Note: To turn off your Xbox 360 console but continue charging the battery, you must shut down your console through the Dashboard i.e don't turn off via power button on console.

this video was extremely helpful and I got the answer I was looking for. I'm going to go with a charging/docking station for my controllers instead of the play and charge kit. Just because the xbox has to be running to charge the battery pack, which is no good because heat can be an issue with the xbox 360. Great video!! Subscribed!
You can use the cable without using a battery as a wired one.

Whoa whoa hold on a minute. Don't get pissed off. When I said that, the battery will last for years. I didn't mean it like it'll only last for months. Either way, this is still a good battery.

With the play and charge kit..it doesnt work for pc right. What if u own the one of the flashdrive mod adapters. Will it work. Using the play and charge kit to connect by usb. Mod adapters. Like (cronomax adapter/titan one adapter/brook wingman adapter.) Will those adapters make the play and charge kit cord work. I dont own the recharable battery but i bought the cords. So was wondering if that can work. Noone has tryed it yet. Social media let me know. Someone could try this who own those adapters for youtube.

I *HATE* this product. I've gone through 2 now and both of them were defective. I could leave the console on with the controller plugged in for 1-2 days, it doesn't matter. As soon as I unplug it, I know I have about 10 seconds before the controller dies.

easy you have just to buy a new joypad with battery no cable just with battery charger you should buy it with no battery and you should also buy battery with usb cable forger cable when playing !
why though. I bought a chinses rip off for 4 bucks and works like 2 hours withouth charging

Hey i have had one of these for a few months and it works just two things, is the power supply supposed to turn off automatically when the charge is done if my 360 is powered off? Also my battery can be at 4 bars of being charged and two or three days later of not playing even when it is at full charge the battery will be at 1 or 2 bars of charge, is that normal?

No. This is only for charging. To use the wireless controller, you need the wireless adapter.

personally i think i would rather change the batteries or get a niko kit then leave my xbox run for hours and overheat it and burn up the motherboard and second don't that defeat the the whole wireless part or at least you only get a wireless controller halve the time?

Guys, the best way to charge the xbox controller is:
Buy an energizer rechargeable battery with charger.(it is costly but its worth buying).
Charge the battery for 1 full day.
remove the battery from the controller and put this new battery.
When the charge finishes, remove the battery and charge it again.
You can buy extra energizer rechargeable battery so that u can keep this charged when the other one is finished.
Trust me this is the best idea for charging xbox controller. I charge it in this way.

How long does the Charge and Play Kit usually last before it starts to malfunction and/or not work?
It depends.
- Certified batteries used to have a life cicle that goes around 400 fully charges.
- Every charge in this kind of pack used to last between 4~8h.
If you use a new and MS original pack, you can have something around 1~2 years of battery life using it the whole day every day; cheap chinese brands used to die much sooner (when work) because of lack of quality.
The wire is another issue. Even MS ones start to show malfunctioning with time because of use (i have a wired controller that last 4 years until i needed to cut the wire and resolder it into its board cause theres a small section parted in it; is the same thing with these charging cables, but you need a new one instead of do the job with your scrap), and again, don't expect any quality from cheap chinese brands.
Other thing to consider is the care: Even spending lots of money into original certfified products only, you can have issues if you don't take some cares.

It pro bobbly stopped working due to overheating it clearly states to stop charging if it becomes warm to the touch, just a warning to anyone who is going to buy this accessory

Yes, it CAN power your controller if it doesn't have a battery pack already in it, but it'll still connect to your Xbox 360 wirelessly, so to use your controller with a PC you'll still need the wireless adapter.
Mine does not charge but i can use the controller when its pluged in. And the indicator doesnt light red or green its just off. What could be the error??
