The CGI animation may bet better in Miraculous than Code Lyoko, BUT I MUCH prefer the art style of Code Lyoko...foreheads and all. Not only is it more interesting to look at, but I don't get the awkward feeling I get watching Miraculous. Idk why but I just don't fully like how the character models look sometimes.
Also, things I didn't mention for why Code Lyoko is better:
1.) All of the main characters get proper spotlight. There isn't a creator's pet.
2.) There are appropriate consequences to bad behaviors.
3.) There is a bully-adjacent character named Sissi who sometimes can fill the role of Chloe. Sissi, while being the butt of a joke sometimes, is treated with more respect than Chloe.
4.) XANA is not a human and thus has no human emotion. It is much more cruel and won't hesitate to end someone; even children. There is no sympathy from it, you only feel fear. XANA is a worthy villain and the writers treat it like the awful being it is. Gabriel has such wishy-washy writing that we don't know what the writers want us to feel regarding him. Sometimes he's sympathetic and other times he's the worst person ever. Some might call him complex, others might say that's not complexity, that's bad writing. You can write a complex and morally grey character, but they didn't do it well with Gabe.
I'm sure there are more reasons XD
I also failed to mention that Code Lyoko's world, other than the supercomputer, is pretty modern for the time when it came out. Also, the main characters all live in a boarding school and thus have to deal with school drama from time to time just like they do in Miraculous.
And thus, the Code Lyoko characters gain extra complexity by having to deal with school and family drama along with keeping their secret of saving the world.
So while the similarities between Miraculous and Code Lyoko aren't that deep, they are they're. And I believe Code Lyoko just handles things better.
    CODE LYOKO FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, even if the overall 3D animation quality of Miraculous is better than what Code Lyoko had, I would hope that at least the latter was more consistent in its CGI quality than the former? Some of the episodes in Miraculous LITERALLY have unfinished rendering. That's one of the many, many things that made it frustrating to watch over time. 😬

If I remember right (spoiler for anyone I guess) it was something Jeremy created that ended up almost destroying Lyoko
Xana was like 'nah fam u fucked up' and buddied with em to save the world, only to after go back to try destroy it 😂😂

One thing I *vastly* prefer between Code Lyoko and Miraculous is the friendship between the main girls.
Marinette and Alya are cute... When the writers allow it. But most of the time, Alya's characterization flips depending on the episode (especially the Lila ones), or Alya just enables Mari's worst traits further.
Wheras Yumi is *such* an MVP to the entire group, and always comes in clutch to help Aelita. Then in turn, Aelita grows as a person to help Yumi and everyone else out, especially in Sector 5. You don't need several "we're besties" scenes to know they've got each other's backs, and they don't get nosey into each other's love lives cause they trust the guys too.

Two things to say about Lyoko:
    1. I think the Forheads came about by someone missing hearing some some drawing advise, the forhead takes up 1 third of the skull, not 2 thirds.
2.Xana is a great frickin' villian, it never talks meaning it's actions have to speak for it, and it is so good at being a geniune threat and terror to our heroes.

    • @Glitch_Shift
      @Glitch_Shift Год назад +7

      Yeah uh, about the foreheads-
They were always meant to be that way. The original character designs date back to like 2000, where the original creators of the show made a short skit using some of the character designs that would be reused for code lyoko (they look the exact same), I’m pretty sure the short film was called “Les Enfants font leur cinéma”-
Even then, those character designs got reused for the EARLY WIP of Code Lyoko, called Garage Kids where we got the characters we know from the main show, artstyle still intact.
You can find both of the original projects that eventually became Code Lyoko on YT :)

I've honestly seen some people complain that some of XANA's attacks aren't even that threatening or a joke, mostly referencing that one episode where XANA possessed a giant teddy bear to wreak havoc. What they're forgetting is that it was said in the series that XANA starts very weak and got stronger after Aelita was materialized in the real world. That teddy bear episode was in the 1st season with XANA at its weakest before Aelita became human again. And as funny as it may sound to attack with some girls' teddy bear, it still managed to be a threat. After it got stronger that AI was practically trying to kill the kids almost every episode. In one episode, after William was introduced to the gang, it even took control of an electrician/engineer guy to plant actual bombs in the factory, and they had to rely on William's help to deactivate them. XANA is a dangerous threat, and it's kinda annoying when people who've watched the show and didn't like it or smth pretend like it's not.

    • @playererror4044

I think part of what makes Sissi better than Chloe is that Sissi never has an arc, she gets a few moments of pleasent suprise to prove she's better deep down then she acts (I remember her defending two younger kids from a XANA monster who she was being a bitch to earlyier in the episode) This means she's way less frustaiting to watch because she was never set up to be more, meaning she gets to run her fuction in show of being a minor IRL antagonist without any bagage (Also she never teams up with Xana or something equally dumb.)

Also the romance between Code Lyoko characters was better in my opinion. And not everyone had a ship. Like I don't remembere exactly, but pretty sure Odd never had a love interest. And I always liked the trope of "not too much of a trait". Umi was a strong and serious girl but never too much. She still cared for her friends, all of them, even in the times she and Ulrich were on negative sides. Jeremy was never too "nerdy". He knew when to get serious, when to get silly and when to show off knowledge. Aelita was never too soft. She was soft and sweet, but still brave and knew when to put her softness aside. Odd was a bit annoying but was still kind and friendly. He loved his dog too which I appreciate. Ulrich I remember as this strong and tough guy, but he was never too tough. He still respected Jeremy while in most media they would dislike each other probably. There was also that second guy I don't remember the name of. I believe he was like ex-villain or something? And while he was edgy, he wasn't too edgy. Just balanced enough.
Conclusion: in CL everyone had balanced traits.

Then got to the English version only to discover that it was originally French. Color me surprise.
And I adored the CGI. My cousins and me were always enamored whenever computer graphics were put on. But only because it was new.
Especially when it came to the Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Looking back at it, we'd probably scoff and say it was terrible.
But yeah... that was our mindset.
And the opening soundtrack for Code Lyoko beats Miraculous Ladybug any day. I kinda skipped the Live-Action version as i didn't want to taint my childhood

I was so desperate to get back home after school everyday just to watch Code Lyoko, I couldn't get enough of it, and me and my friends would pretend to play Code Lyoko during recess, it was so much fun😁
Even if the episodes were the same plot of *"Xana attack of the week"* , I never got bored of them. And I agree that the writing in CL is better than MLB, cause as you said we see how the CL characters have to struggle in not only saving the world but also dealing with school and family problems that felt realistic that fans could relate to them. Meanwhile MLB handles their problems as if there weren't any to begin with, OR they do show them but it's handled poorly.
And let's not forget there were a few rare episodes that they couldn't use the *"returned to the past"* and had to figure out how to deal with the aftermath of Xana's attack, and their school and family problems on their own, now that is good story telling.
The main 5 were truly written very well, each of them were different in their own way and had their own spotlight from time to time that allowed us to get to know them better and grow to like them more. Unlike MLB with their main focus on their mascot *cough* Marinette *cough*
And sometimes they would show the main 5 having conflicts with one another and also themselves that the series did a good job in how they handled those problems which gave good development in their characters, that you can truly appreciate the unique friendship they have.
What I found adorable is how Ulrich and Odd called Aelita "princess" and how protective they're of her that shows that it really is possible for boys and girls to be just friends.
Jeremy and Aelita were basically the parents of the group that kept everyone in check, and they had the most healthy relationship that I have ever seen, heck practically everyone called them "Mr. & Mrs. Einstein" and it didn't bother them because they actually like it, they are practically married without goign through all the ridiculous drama.
And let me tell you, Yumi and Ulrich were my ultimate ship that I was practically screaming for them to hurry up and get together already. They KNOW that they like each other but as always the writers enjoy making us suffer of the trope of *"will they/won't they"* , and it still remain that way to the last episode, which still frustrates me till today.
And let's not forget of how Odd and Kiwi were the emotional support of the group that always kept them positive and find the fun in every situation, that was truly much appreciated.
CL may not be perfect but it did a great job in keeping us long time fans still love the show even till today.

I think, in my opinion, the main reason the relationship/romance between Ulrich Stern and Yumi Ishiyama in Code Lyoko is better than that of Marinette and Adrienne, is because it never reaches "creepy territory". Yeah, Yumi and Ulrich did have some disagreements and fights here and there, as is expected of two teenagers who have to shuffle between their studies at the academy and their secret identities as heroes who have to save the world. They fought sometimes, if I remember correctly, they even kissed a few times, but at the end both of them agreed that it'd be better to stay just friends, which is fine if that's what they want. With Marinette and Adrienne, it's true that they also have school and secret hero identities, their relationship does veer into "creepy" territory", cause from what I've heard, there’s a period where Marinette basically becomes a stalker? Stalking Adrienne, getting jealous if any other girl talks or even looks at him, and wanting him all to herself. And her entire character also starts spinning around trying to get his love, which doesn't happen with Yumi. With Yumi, we do get to see the other struggles of her life, such as: her semi dysfunctional family situation, her relationship with her younger brother Hiroki (which is cool, cause Hiroki is a very minor character, that we get to see some of her sibling bond with him). Her relationship with Aelita as friends and besties, and her supposed "rivalry" with the popular girl Sissy over Ulrich is never toxic, cause Yumi doesn’t even bother to compete with Sissi over the boy, cause obtaining Ulrich's love and affection isn’t even something her character thinks about a lot in every chapter, where that is a main point of Marinette's personality (getting the boy). That's why Ulrich/Yumi is better, and Yumi is also a better character than Marinette. And if Yumi, the "secondary heroine/girl" of the show is better than her, at this point I think it'd be unfair to compare Marinette to Aelita, lmao.

I'm kind of conflicted with these kinds of more impersonal villains.
On the one hand, I like villains that are personified and fleshed out as characters, as this adds a lot to a story - a sort of vague villain that works primarily through minions always felt kind of lackluster to me (imagine Batman without the Joker or Superman without Lex Luthor).
On the other hand, these sorts of non-personified villains, when done correctly, can work extremely well in very specific conditions (As did Sauron from LOTR working through his orcs and other servants). They act more as a force of nature that tests the mettle of the heroes and allows more screen time for the main characters to develop, so it's a give-and-take.

For Code Lyoko I always did like Yumi/William as one of my ships as a child. What I didn’t like in S2 was how Jeremy treated Aelita so I liked more of Odd/Aelita. Each season did get interesting & how it felt different. For the reboot I’m glad they ended in 1 season bc it doesn’t have the charm like the cartoon.
Miraculous is only good when it’s from SAMG or any high quality studios. Others do make it worse & unbearable to watch at times. This is why I wish the show had the creativity to go dark & talk/show those topics. Heck even make it PG-13 since the main audience is adults.

One thing I would complain about is that there is a lot of moaning sounds in this show. I never noticed it when it was airing because I was in elementary school when it first aired, but I was watching a playlist of episodes a few years back because I was feeling nostalgic and was reading the comments. So many people were pointing out that the kids made those sounds A LOT throughout the show. A lot of it was out of place as well.😳

5:40 this is mainly just a season 1 issue as if I remember correctly Code Lyoko as a concept was born way before the actual main plot was finalized so a lot of season 1 episodes end up feeling like their own thing not really connected to anything for the narrative to start picking up down the line as time went on, things that happened in previous episodes start to get brought up and the episodes begin to feel more connected.
Code Lyoko's episode 1 takes place as if its just another routine day as if the stage has already been set and the characters have been doing this for at least some time whereas the prologue episode that was released way later into the show's runtime serves as what should be the actual introduction into this world instead of being thrown right into the middle of it like how season 1 did.
Season 1 and watching the episodes in chronological release order could really hurt the viewing from a new viewer perspective to the point someone could probably have 2 different initial impressions of the show depending if they decided to watch Teddy Godzilla (episode 1) vs XANA Awakens (prologue) first.

something that code lyoko does really well and leagues beyond miraculous ladybug is character perks and flaws. the main cast of code lyoko has distinct personalities with their own strengths and weaknesses and their selfish actions are always met with consequences that fit the narrative
    - jeremie was a literal genius but his weaker physical state and lack of combat experience against xana made him the primary target (other than aelita) of xana’s attacks
    - ulrich was the best fighter and had a strong moral compass, but his jealousy and love for yumi is a constant point of conflict between him and his friends as it makes him act irrationally. he even got temporarily kicked from the group due to using the return to the past to rig the freakin lottery just for yumi and her family
    - odd was the jokester and never failed to make anyone smile. he wasn’t that smart but he was insanely creative and had an out of the box thinking that the rest of the group lacked, but he was the most immature out of the group and a huge show off, getting the group into trouble multiple times
    - aelita was naive but she was kind and the most emphatic of the group. however, she was shown to be a brat and rebel, often doing her own thing and not considering what consequences her actions could bring about, again playing into her naivety
    - yumi was the most mature and grounded of the characters, acting as the leader more often than not. she was also the most stubborn and headstrong and it often caused discourse among the group
marinette has like one flaw? she’s clumsy?? and even as ladybug that goes away. her one major fuck up is when she wasn’t paying attention and gabriel got the miraculous from her. one could argue her love for adrien is a major character flaw (which her obsession is creepy) but never once has it been played off as anything other than cute or endearing that she knows him so well and it’s so funny cause haha she’s in love uwu
i still enjoy watching miraculous, the cgi is much smoother, the voice acting is so much better (like it’s been 17 years and i still cannot forgive jeremys english va for that rollercoaster of a journey she went on to find the right pitch for his voice) and the character designs can be pretty good (especially the akumatized ones) but code lyoko is a much better show as a whole

Who the heck died before return to the past? I cannot for the life of me remember any character, aside from Yumi falling in the digital sea on Lyoko, dieing before the return to the past function was activated in the real world. And i am usually very good at remembering that stuff.
Also i think more stakes would exist in Miraculous if the comraderie between Ladybug and Chat Noir was allowed to be explored more. Miraculous Ladybug the power is essentially the wish without the monkey's paw effect meaning any damage has to be erased and/or repaired. So i feel like it should be a type of power that requires the weilders of the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous to use together. And the purifying of Akumas and Amoks should be a power that Chat Noir posesses as it should theorhetically destroy the negative influences that are infused in the butterfly and feather. The power to purify comes at a cost to Chat Noir though as without a way to rid the negative influences he could turn into Chat Blanc which can lead to Ladybug creating the Magical charms that repel the Akumas and Amoks from whomever holds it. Creating something new out of the dark power that made the amoks and akumas. Their powers need to constantly balance out each other or it could lead to disaster if Cataclysm or Lucky Charm is over used.
This structure would be so much better as it would leave Ladybug with Lucky Charm and later the creation of Magical Charms, Chat Noir with Cataclysm and give him the purification ability, and a "miraculous Ladybug" power for the both of them that could maybe have a wider range or do more to bring things back to normal the more that the holders of the Ladybug and Black cat Miraculous are on the same page, and are more synchronized in their efforts.

    • @TheArtisticAloubell
      @TheArtisticAloubell  Год назад

No one died before return to the past. But that's part of the point I was making. The show SUPER emphasized that if anyone did die before return to the past, they stay dead. This keeps stakes high but on a writing standpoint, keeps both writers and animators responsible for not making XANA's destruction so overly outrageous (like in Miraculous) where logic says that someone absolutely did die, but have the death either reversed or ignored via Return to the Past. Of course, in doing this you technically take away part of the worry because you're pretty certain that the show won't kill anyone off (this being a kids show), but still providing just enough suspense that you're never sure if they'll actually decide to go through with it or not.
All of that is to say that the writers and animators had a lot to balance and did a good job creating tension regardless of going through with the deed or not.

@@TheArtisticAloubell ok fair enough. I just kept hearing this outside the video and was confused if it meant the side characters. The ones who hadn't been on Lyoko. I can understand the main 5 plus William but the way people describe it makes it seem like Sissi, Hiroki, Jim, Mrs. Hertz and any of the other side characters could not be saved if they were killed before the main characters trigger return to the past. That is all i was confused about because of the wording of the rules for return to the past and how it is the same wording that a lot of sources and fans used.
Side note: am i the only one thinking that there is a continuity error with Cold War? The episode where XANA Triggers a freaking Ice Age to kill everyone and just as things were warming up, Yumi was implied to be dead before the return to the past? Not only because she along with everyone else was freezing to death but also because she saved Ulrich from a tree that collapsed from the cold?

@@sevenequalsoneheart6710 I just looked it up and apparently it was confirmed in the episodes "Teddyzilla" as well as "False Start" that Return to the Past cannot bring ANYONE back to life. Not the heroes or side characters.
I think there are times where one can interpret contradictions, like you pointed out with Yumi. But TECHNICALLY, you can add reasonable doubt that unless we see someone destroyed or know that someone's heart is stopped, they aren't dead.
They can be nearly dead, but not dead.

And in s1e26 we get "You know full well that if there's a victim, a return in time won't bring her back to life," delivered grimly. That kind of implies that somebody died, and they learned that the hard way. Code lyoko did an amazing job at making william the antagonist, dont get me wrong the main villain is still XANA but william was a great antagonist, (cant say the same thing about him as a hero, he deserved better)
Like when william came to screen with his iconic theme song you knew things were about to go down, and he was a very good fighter, ususal beating the entire group all by himself, and even going against 2v1 and still winning, usually the lyoko warriors only win against by stragety or sheer numbers.
He was *great* as an antagonist.
Between miraculous ladybug's antagonist and code lyoko's, william is the only one who got me saying "oh shit!" When they came to screen.

I was like 4 to 8 at the time, so I can't remember if it was because they never aired it at a convenient time for me, because it looked too serious for my taste back then, or because at the time I preferred to watch more colorful stuff. Maybe a combination of all of that xD
I definitely agree that despite the artstyle being, well, peculiar, it is DEFINITELY recognizable. I immediately remembered it the moment I saw it despite never properly tuning in, and I can respect it when an artstyle has its unique identity. 😋
Also, STAKES! That thing about not bringing people back from the death despite turning back time immediately makes things feel much more real! And if that show was able to handle it well, age restrictions limitations and all, I bet so could've Miraculous. I kind of understand him as a person who creates and you kind of do hate seeing people criticized the thing you really love that you put years and years of working for

Yeah over the years Reby hasn't had the best writing for the show

🟦 between 10-12 episodes and the episodes are usually only somewhere between 14-18 mins Rwby leaves you with cliffhangers they're actually interesting
🟫 cliffhangers when Thomas does that with miraculous ladybug some of them get contradicted and seemed unnecessary like looking back at season 5 when they got the rabbit miraculous when they got bunnixs
🟧 miraculous and then when they went to the past and they were there with masterful and he had all of them miraculouses they could have gone back in time and stopped
🟪 Marinette from becoming Penny bug at all but no they have to drag season 5 out for no reason with Gabriel's having all the miraculouses for no reason it was stupid
And yeah the show Rwby dose this as wel
l🟫 where if you go back and look some things are stupid and maybe shouldn't have been written in or certain characters shouldn't have been brought back cuz they waste time but at least you can actually feel
🟥 like the writers of the show are actually trying and are actually hearing the audience out with some of their criticisms and confusion but with Thomas is just anger annoyance he blocks people for the
🟧 simplest questions I saw somebody asked him a question about a character's birthday or something a few days ago and he blocked them
🟥I'm not sure if he's still going to make doing the main writing for the new seasons we're getting but I really hope he's not too involved with the new seasons like people have been telling me

🖥🖱 Another strong point of Code Lyoko is its character dynamics. Jeremy, Aelita, Yumi, Ulrich and Odd always feel like a team of friends trying to defeat X.A.N.A., while they deal with their daily lives as teenagers. And while the show gets you to effectively empathize with them, they also show that they are human, and that they make mistakes and have flaws they have to fix as the show progresses. Also, by the middle of the show, they introduce William, creating somewhat of a love triangle between him, Yumi and Ulrich, although Ulrich x Yumi is clearly endgame, since they share more chemistry together, but they also get you to empathize with William, and even gave him an important role in the show in later episodes. Also, also, Jeremy's love of Aelita is portrayed as sane and healthy, and it ends up becoming mutual as the show progresses. As for the human antagonists, they don't treat Sissi as a pest they have to get rid off. Yeah, Sissi is a little brat, annoying and self-centered, but the writers understand that, while she may be that, she isn't evil and that she is a young teenager who still has a lot to learn (and occasionally Sissi shows that, while she may be superficial and vain, she is deep inside a good person).

Say, do you know of Oban Star Racers?
Also, I would really like to know what you might think of the Scarlet Lady Webcomic, it’s such interesting take in my opinion.

I know Oban Star Racers. I watched a few episodes of it when I was a kid, but haven't sat to watch the whole thing. The ending song is very sweet! I still remember it.
Haven't read the webcomic. Perhaps when I'm done with BBF I'll check it out! I know it's quite popular. I'm trying to stay away from other Miraculous fanfics as to not have my story be influenced by them~

At least Marinette had learn to let go of Adrien (for awhile at least) but the same couldn't be said for Ulrich and Yumi. Ulrich did a lot things to Yumi not even Marinette would do with Adrien.

There was a time Miraculous was gonna be fully 2D animated by Toei's Pretty Cure team, and it looked amazing.
The CG of the current one is...fine, but I remember the OG Anime trailer for it and easily would have preffered it over what we got...

I hate the fact that the evolution was left with a big cliffhanger, I remember watching cl evolution somewhere in 2013 or 2014 and waiting for the second season to air but then I found out that evolution was to hated bc it was a live action, but in my opinion CL evolution is better than a terrible ripoff *reboot the guardian code*

not only that there are more stakes that happen in the virtual world in code lyoko that cannot be fixed with return to the past because lyoko is not effected by it. Not only that but if Ailita gets devirtualized in seasons 1-2 its jover for them.
Speaking of Ailita she is the only one that can deactivate a tower so once season 2 hits getting her to lyoko can also be a challenge they have to face and xana does take advantage of this.
In Miraculous, ladybug is the only one who can purify akumas but the show does nothing with this.

While I do prefer miraculousis 3d animation compared to code lyoko because CGI back in the day was pretty good except for the code but that's about it. That the villain tried different things instead of using the same move but adding a little spice to it unlike monarch and also like you already said competent and his character wasn't ruined it for him to be a better villain consistent plot with actual continuity a power system that makes sense, characters that are actually different that aren't just nice all the time, betcha choreography in fights despite having a worse engine, and not the last one but most importantly our main character isn't a stalker and also the characters are treated equally. Ladybug literally copied Randy Cunningham and even though the story could have really been better and had less screen time it's still a better show with a better show

Not to mention, later in the series they make return to the past a bad thing. While it turns back time in the real world, it doesn't alter the virtual world. First it meant William couldn't be brought back while he was under Xana's control, but MOST important is the episode where Jeremy basically does a time turner from Harry Potter to become smarter. What they learn towards the end is Xana also gets smarter as he kept evolving since time kept going in the virtual world, he became so powerful eventually that he was able to escape Lyoko into the world wide web. They team only used return to the past for extreme emergencies, which led to problems with their school life since they couldn't restart the day and be at their classes, etc.

    • @cybertramon0012
      @cybertramon0012 11 месяцев назад

I remember that they learnt that earlier, in the episode 'A Great Day'. XANA used a program to hijack the RTTP and restarted the day several times until he had enough processing power to materialize a spectre and possess Sissi.

    • @artistanthony1007
      @artistanthony1007 11 месяцев назад

XANA actually needed to activate 4 Towers with 1 from 4 Sectors of Lyoko (probably Sector 5 but likely not) to escape, he releases as that Spectre into the sky.
